Chapter 236
Blair POV
Brynn tried to wriggle free, but Braedon gritted his teeth and yanked her other arm behind her, marching her forward as I stayed in front. "You're so naive, Blair" she snorted, causing me to look over my shoulder at her, her hair covering part of her eyes, her wounds still trickling blood, her steps slow and limping. It doesn't happen in real life. Braedon will tire of you, just like all men do and you will be alone, raising two children while he cheats on you, or even worse, rejects you and leaves you picking up the pieces of your broken heart. You've never had ambition like I've had" she gloated "At least I was trying to make something of myself. I wanted the financial freedom to do whatever I liked. I wasn't at anyone's mercy. I worked for myself" she boasted.
I laughed. I couldn't help myself. The entire time my father's face was turned away as he listened, a forlorn expression on his face. "I believe in true love and fated mates because it's real Brynn. You loved Ashton but you weren't his real mate. If you had found your fated mate, your life might have turned out differently. You would have felt the mate bond and the strength of it. Stop reading the wrong and incomplete storyline, jo b nib.co m has the correct and complete book. The love that came from it would have been something wonderful for you to experience. It's like nothing you've ever felt before" I told her honestly, watching her eyes as they narrow and her facial expression change as she studied me "My mate will not leave me. I wish I could describe the mate bond properly to you Brynn, because it's what makes you feel whole. It's the other piece that's missing. I trust Braedon completely."
For a moment she looks envious as she's propelled forward again. Braedon nods at me, a small smile on his face. My father is quiet and pensive. The pack house comes into view. I stop them again. "I will take her to the dungeon," I tell him softly and change places with Braedon, grabbing Brynn's arms and yanking her forward harshly as she gives a small cry of pain.
"You're loving this, aren't you" she growled as Braedon and my father followed behind silently.
"To be honest, no. I feel sorry for you" I said, dragging her towards the basement as she limped and groaned out loud.
"I don't need your pity" she spat.
I pushed the door to the basement open. Braedon and my father respectfully waited at the top of the stairs as I pushed Brynn down them, her body stiffening as we got closer to the dreaded cells and she began to realize there would be no escape for her.
I'm not gentle as I drag her towards the last cell in the back. I push her forward and she falls, none too gently inside, landing hard on her bottom. She winces. The wolfsbane has weakened her, but I've ensured that she'll be weakened with another dose within the next hour and continually until her execution. She stares up at me, her eyes glittering. "Are you going to t*****e me?" she asked, her lips twisting.
"No," I said evenly, standing in the doorway "Torturing you would give me no pleasure and you're already in bad shape," I said, eyeing her deliberately "I want you to spend your last hours as comfortable as you can possibly get before you die."
She flips me the finger. I roll my eyes and step backward, shutting the cell door. She scrambles to her feet. She begins to panic. "Blair, don't do this. Please. T*****e me, punish me, anything but death. Have some compassion" she begged wildly, shrilly "for god's sake, you're the Luna queen, you can dismiss my sentence if you want to."
She's right. I could dismiss the charges against her if I wanted to. But that was the thing. I had no desire to dismiss any charges. Brynn was trying so hard to avoid the consequences of her actions that she was willing to say anything to get away with what she had done. But I wasn't just her blood sister but Luna Queen. I had to set an example. The pack needed to be shown that going against our decrees and laws would not be tolerated. It was part of my duties as the Luna Queen and one I didn't take lightly. I had accepted this when I accepted being the Alpha King's mate. I had a duty to my people. I had a responsibility to do the right thing. No one ever said my role would be easy or that it wouldn't give me second thoughts. But while I was in this position, I would do everything in my power to adhere to the limitations that were placed on me. I would do what was best for my people and the pack.
"That's just it Brynn," I said quietly, shaking my head at her "I will not dismiss the charges against you. You will face the punishment for your crimes, which are numerous by the way and you will be executed for them. You tried to kill me, tried to kill my children and now you try to plead with me to spare you?" my anger was rising "You have a nerve. I suggest you use the next few hours, or what little time you have left, to reflect on your actions. Come to terms with your sentence and maybe even pray for forgiveness by the moon goddess" I advised her stiffly.
She lunged towards the bars, leaping back and cursing when she accidentally touched the silver of the bars. "I'll kill you" she yelled as I stared at her amused "I swear to god I'll kill you."
"You already tried and you failed. There is no escaping death this time Brynn, so make peace with that. It's a shame that your wolf has to die with you, but maybe the moon goddess will take mercy on her and grant her a new life with a different human more deserving of her."
I deliberately turned my back as I heard Brynn begin to sob and scream, lunging at the bars which made an awful thud before she screeched from the pain of the silver. Her efforts to free herself would be in vain. Her screams grew higher.
I shook my head and motioned to the guards to take their positions. My heart was heavy as I began to make my way back upstairs. Tomorrow, Brynn would finally take her last breath and meet her maker. I tuned out the sound of her screams and pleads, closing the door to the basement softly as my mate gently placed an arm around me and began to lead me gently to the stairs.
"Come, my love, let us check on our darling babies" he murmured, causing my heart to swell with joy as I began to hasten my steps.
My darling son and daughter, the light of my life and the reason for my determination to live and survive. I took my mate's hand, desperate to see them, hold them. My father was gone, and I knew he was seeking some space to be alone. "Sierra and Josie will be glad to hand them back over" I sighed and Braedon grinned.
"Are you kidding? I feel like I have to ask for our own children back" he huffed indignantly.
I laughed as we made it to the bedroom, hearing the soft sounds of our children crying in the background.
