The Rebellious Omega

Chapter 143

Blair

POV

It was the night of the summit. I could feel the anticipation in the air. Omegas had been busy all day preparing the food, the refreshments, the decorations. I smoothed down my dress, my hands shaking slightly, wishing that Josie and Sierra could be here, but they were busy getting themselves ready and it was normal procedure for the Luna Queen to enter the marquee on the grounds with the King by her side. Sarah gave me a sympathetic glance, clad in a black cocktail dress, her long hair flowing over her shoulder. "Nervous?" she asked and I coughed, laughing softly to myself, as I gazed in the mirror, the silver grey ombre dress with short sleeves, shimmering beneath the light, designed to catch the eye and draw attention to it, causing me to inhale sharply. "Scared witless" I admitted wryly and she laughed, her eyes twinkling with humour.

"It's not that bad. Just nod and smile" she advised "and mumble if you forget names. That's what I do," she said nonchalantly as I gaped at her.

"You mumble," I said dumbly and she shrugged, looking slightly defensive.

"It's hard to remember everyone's names" she defended flipping her hair "And I get bored" she added making me giggle.

I tottered on my heels, feeling awkward and clumsy. Already my feet hurt. Julia had outdone herself and I swear she had been humming as she dressed me. Enjoying the book? A knock on the door had me turning before Braedon stepped into the room. The look on his face said it all. A wide smile appeared and his eyes raked over my form. His eyes darkened. He cleared his throat and stepped over to me, his hands taking hold of mine, kissing the top of my head.

"You look absolutely stunning," he said hoarsely "You always do but you look especially beautiful tonight" he concluded. Sarah looked disgruntled. "You too sister" he added hastily and she looked a bit appeased. "Better" she muttered under her breath.

"Braedon I'm nervous. What if everybody thinks that I don't deserve to be Luna Queen?" I asked him.

After all, even if I had an Alpha wolf, I had spent the majority of my life being looked down upon as a pathetic and worthless mutt. It was hard to shrug that off, no matter how much he tried to convince me that I was worthy.

I was worried that somebody might challenge him if they took a look at me and found me wanting. He shook his head, his eyes darkening further. "Nobody will question that you are my mate," he said gruffly "not if they want to live. This is merely a formality and a chance to enjoy yourself while you get to know some more Luna's and Alphas" he added and I knew he was right, exchanging a wary glance with Sarah.

"Now may I escort you to the grounds?" he asked politley and I knew there was no more procrastinating.

There was only so much hesitating I could do before I was forced to attend. I tried to convince myself that this would be a fun experience and part of the role of Luna Queen as I nodded at my mate.

"I'll be right behind you," Sarah said softly as I glanced over my shoulder at her.

"Shouldn't Sarah have an escort" I pointed out in protest "She is a princess after all" I added.

"She has one," a husky voice said from the doorway and I gaped as James stepped in, clad in a tuxedo, much like Braedon's, an uncomfortable expression on his face.

"Wow, you clean up nice, but not as nice as you" I added to Braedon who grinned at me.

James just chuckled and shook his head at me, and held out his arm, Sarah reluctantly tucking her arm into his. "Try not to kill each other," Braedon said tiredly "I don't fancy having to clean up a mess tonight if I can avoid it" he added, leading me out of the bedroom.

I could already hear James and Sarah bickering together and stifled my laughter as Braedon rolled his eyes. "Those two are never going to get along" he commented drily.

I shrugged, tucking my arm into his as we went downstairs "Who knows, maybe they secretly love each other" I said teasingly. "Their fighting could just be a front to hide it" I added making him look even more amused.

He laughed out loud "That will be the day," he said chortling "I can already picture it now" he added guffawing.

I sighed. I suspected that Sarah liked James but was too afraid to say it. I also suspected that James was not as averse to Sarah as he would like us to believe. They bickered too much to simply just dislike each other. There had to be more to it. We exited the front of the pack house and stepped onto the grounds where a large marquee was set up in the distance. Braedon swept me up in his arms and held me tightly against his chest as I swatted at his chest. "Hey," I said laughing as he grinned, his eyes sparkling at me "what are you doing?" I protested. "Can't have you walking on the grass in those heels" he chuckled, cradling me close "And this way I have an excuse to hold you" he added smugly.

I relaxed, enjoying the feel of his strong arms around me. He carried me with ease, heading directly to the marquee, and then gently lowered me to the ground, taking a moment to press his lips against mine, making me tremble with desire and longing.

"A promise for later" he whispered thickly as I blinked at him, before becoming aware of our surroundings and feeling a flash of disappointment. I could feel my body trembling as I stood beside my mate, our inevitable arrival causing those in the nearby vicinity to turn and watch us intently, making me even more nervous. I hoped that tonight went smoothly and added an extra prayer that I didn't do something embarrassing like fall flat on my face.
