Chapter 11

Chapter 11

“Where did you get that dress, freak,” Bella hissed. “Did you steal it?”

I glanced at the mocking faces surrounding me and shook my head. Why wouldn’t they leave me alone? I didn’t do anything to deserve this

“I said, where did you get that dress?” Bella repeated. She signaled the other girls, and the circle around me tightened.

“My my fah… fah… father gave it to me,” I stammered. Why did my stutter always get worse when it was vital for me to speak clearly?

“Your fah… fah… father couldn’t afford that dress,” Bella said, mocking me. “Stop lying.”

I didn’t understand. Why were they making a big deal over a dress? It was a pretty dress, but it was nothing to get mad over.

“I’m not

not.. ly….” I was tempted to tell them my father was Alex Wilson, but they did not let me finish my words..

“What brand is that dress? Who designed it? Do you know?” Bella demanded.

I shook my head again. “I told you, my fah… father bah… bought it for me.” And I didn’t care who designed it. I was used to second–hand store clothes.

“And I told you, your father can’t afford it,” Bella said with a sneer and pushed me backward.

Priscilla, one of Bella’s friends, caught me by my shoulders. “I bet it’s a fake, Bella,” she said and pulled at the soft material.

“Yeah,” Bella agreed. It’s just a cheap knock–off.”

They both grabbed my dress’s collar.

“We hate it when someb*dy tries to impress people by wearing fakes, don’t we, Bella,” Priscilla growled into my ear.

“That’s right. She needs to take that phony dress off,” Bella pulled on the collar until my dress tore with a loud ripping sound that made all the other girls laugh.

I was stunned. This was the first time I was bullied this severely in school. Before this, everyone ignored me except for Amy.

While Priscilla held me still, Bella continued to tear my dress until it hung from one shoulder. But then the bell rang, and the dress and I were saved from any more abuse. when my tormentors rushed off to their next class.

Chapter 11

I hurried into a toilet stall and pulled my phone out of my purse. With tears rolling down my face, I called the only person I thought could help me–Benson. I asked him. to please bring me loose fitting jeans and a shirt.

He asked me a few questions and understood more than I said. I’ll be right there, Miss Wilson. One of the maids will bring your clothing into the bathroom. Stay where you are with the door locked.

It seemed to take forever for Benson to arrive with my clothes. But it was only twenty minutes until I heard someone enter the bathroom and tap on the stall door.

“Miss Wilson, it’s Jennifer,” a voice said. “I’ve brought you some clothes.”

I opened the door and saw the pleasant face of the maid who had helped me dress that morning.

She held up a garment bag. “Benson said you wanted something more casual to wear. I apologize for not anticipating your needs earlier.”

“No…No worries. Thank you, Juh… Jennifer,” I said, feeling dangerously close to sobbing.

“I’ve brought you a pair of jeans and a nice top to finish your day,” Jennifer said. She unzipped the bag, and I sighed with relief at the sight of the comfortable jeans and green smock top she had brought me.

well with your pretty

“The jeans and top are a bit roomy, but I thought the

but I thought the top would go well with dark hair and beautiful green eyes,” she said.

Jennifer spotted the damage Bella had done to the dress I had worn to school that morning. “Jealousy makes people do terrible things, Miss Wilson. Their reaction to your good fortune is no reflection on you.”

I let Jennifer help me out of the torn dress and I sl*pped into the jeans and top.

You look nice in anything, Miss,” Jennifer said as she folded the torn dress and placed it in the bag. You have a splendid figure, if you don’t mind me saying so.”

I blushed. “Thank you, Jennifer.””

I looked in the full–length mirror on my way out of the bathroom and sighed. The jeans. and top were more me. Plus, if I ran into Bella and her friends again maybe they would leave me alone.

Benson saw my expression. “Are the clothes satisfactory, Miss Wilson?”

“Yes, they’re great,” I replied. “S… some of my classmates duh…don’t like me wearing expensive dresses.”

“That’s what I suspected.” Benson took out his phone and texted someone. Then he gave me a small smile. “Alex has arranged for us to speak with your principal. Please, accompany me to the school office, Miss.” He started down the hall.

Benson wore a stern expression as he informed the principal that I was Alex Wilson’s lost daughter. He then told him what happened to me in the bathroom. “You must agree that Miss Wilson shouldn’t be assaulted at school for wearing a nice dress.”

“Absolutely,” Principal Jones agreed and apologized to me. “Will you give me their names, Miss Wilson? I’ll take care of the problem immediately. It won’t happen again.”

I didn’t want to cause any trouble, but my experience with the mean girls had me shaken.

I told the principal that Bella and Priscilla had been the ringleaders and told him who the others were. “But those girls didn’t touch me. They just watched and laughed.”

“Perhaps Bella and Priscilla should go to school elsewhere,” Benson suggested.

“I agree, Principal Jones said. “I will inform them they are expelled and are forbidden to be on school grounds. The others will receive detention.” He gave me a stiff smile. “Again, Miss Wilson, please accept my sincerest apologies, and let me know immediately if you have any other difficulties.”

Benson and Jennifer escorted me to my next class. As I sat next to Amy, trying to absorb. the math lesson, Principal Jones’s voice came over the PA system speakers and called the mean girls to the office immediately.

The school had two pieces of gossip to chew on that afternoon. The word quickly spread that I was the lost daughter of Alex Wilson. I also overheard my classmates. discussing how I had Principal Jones expel Bella Burrows and Priscilla Dent for bullying

  1. me.

I didn’t know how to feel. I was sick of the attention from people who had never before acknowledged I was alive. But I was glad no one would bully me again.

After school, I found Amy and tried to leave as soon as possible. It had been a long, trying day.

Most of the other kids were gathered on school grounds, huddled in their different cliques, or on their way to the sports fields for practice. As I walked by, they whispered. to each other and stared.

You’re almost to the gate. No one will stare anymore after you leave. Hang in there, Daisy. I told myself.

Two minutes later, I was at the gate, but I was far from relieved.

A big red Ferrari was parked in front of the school. Victor was leaning on the car. wearing jeans and a polo shirt that matched his turquoise blue eyes. He was holding a small bouquet of my favorite purple dates

He looked younger and even more incredible than he did in his expensive suits. Casual suited him. He reminded me of a handsome college student waiting on his sweetheart like I’ve seen on TV.

I couldn’t pull my eyes away from him.

Neither could anyone else around us.

“Is that Victor Klein.” Amy whispered.

“Uh–huh.” I replied as Victor smiled and approached:

“How was your day. Daisy?” he asked. “You look pretty” He handed me the flowers.”

I blushed. “Fine.” I said. “Thanks.”

It felt strange to have the other students pass by and stare at the handsome Alpha firting with me.

I realized I’d never get used to all the attention-
