Chapter 39
“We need to talk, now!”
Those words chilled Lucius to the bone and the way her eyes stared at him, told him she was determined to have this conversation whether or not he was ready.
He wasn’t.
But he sold his pride, and nervous sweat and gave her a small nod, scared that his voice may deceive him. He led to an empty field, where he was sure that no one was around to hear what she or he, had to say.
“I’m listening,” he said making sure to leave some space between her but not enough to make her suspicious of his behaviour.
Solani’s confidence faltered at his voice, she was dazed at how smooth and rough it was and for a minute she realised that she was standing near her male. She was standing near her male, alone, with no one to look at them, or no one to glare at her.
She breathed in his scent and her stiff shoulder relaxed and she stared in his glorious grey eyes that she knew very well, from her dreams. She took in her mate, her male.
He wore a casual black t-shirt that hugged his body perfectly. He was lean, he wasn’t as buff as the FanHide Gamma Male but he wasn’t as slim as the Beta as well. He was in between, he had defined muscles, muscles that didn’t look like they were heavy to carry around. He was tall, taller than Lugar but she loved the fact that she had to look up to meet his eyes. His legs were long, it was a wonder how she caught up to him without having to run.
She shook her head, now realising she was just gawking at him and she didn’t miss the small smile he was trying to hide, and she was frustrated by that, that she didn’t even give thought to what she wanted to say or to her rehearsed speech, that she immediately spoke on instincts.
“Are you going to reject me?”, she blurted.
She watched as his eyes grew wide before he narrowed them at her,
“Are you going to reject me?”, he asked her.
Thye both looked at each and Solani sighed, her head falling. She brushed away the hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear, "then what are we doing, this is all very confusing. I am not Tom and you are certainly not Jerry", she rebuffs, her cheeks swollen with anger.
"Tom, Jerry, I have no idea who that is?", he says tilting his head in both humour and confusion.
"Besides the point, do you want me or not?", she asks looking into his eyes.
“I do but,”
“But?” she interrupted him.
“But… It’s complicated”
“What’s complicated? What is so complicated? Are we mates or not?! Are we together or not?…it’s not that complicated unless there’s something else, is there something, someone else?”
“Yes-No”, Lucius stumbles over his words, he sighs and meets her eyes, “this is beyond between me and you, what we do influences people around us”,
“Fuck the people, this is me and you,”
“It’s not that simple Solani”, he grunts, “It’s not as simple as you want it to believe and you know that too.”
There’s a small stage of silence between the two of them, their eyes had so much to say but none saying anything.
“Is this because of her?”
“It has nothing to do with her”, he groans not wanting to indulge in this conversation any longer.
“Don’t lie to me Lucius, it’s about her, isn’t it? She can’t come in between us Lucius, we are mates. I am important to you”
“But she is too!”
“But you can survive without her, she isn’t your mate, I am. You have to choose me”
Lucius releases a small chuckle, he turns away from her, “All of this, the same ground you stand on right now, wouldn’t be possible if I didnt have her. I couldn’t have survived the banishment without her, she saved my life, my mother’s life and in turn I saved her. We saved each other,”
“But that is in the past, I am your future. You are my mate. Lucius, she has no influence on what we do. I mean for goddess sake she has her own mate and she expects what? For you to just be her lap dog”,
Lucius growls, his eyes turning bright yellow at the statement, “Watch what you say about her. I get it your upset about everything”
“Upset is not the word I would use Lucius,” she too growls, “I am fuming that you let her come between us, that you let her tear us apart. I am furious that my own mate chose my sister and not me,”
“I am not choosing and will not choose between the two of you. You are both important to me and that is something both of you will have to understand, ” he states, “but what I definitely will not do, is choose.”
Solani glares at him through her lashes, her anger rising every minute and she releases a threatening growl,
“Then I will choose for you”.
