Chapter 38
A month has passed and Elena has been attacking small packs in the continent, some would surrender to her will of power and fight for her, thus growing her strength whilst others fought and eventually lost due to the overwhelming army that she had.
The pack grounds of the FanHide Furs were not known to the outside world, which made it harder for others to seek refuge. It was only a week ago, did the 5 alpha’s decide that the grounds of the Furs would be opened to the refugees and or allies, but this also meant that eventually, Elena would know where they were and would attack them as well.
But that is exactly what they wanted.
“Good Morning,” Solani greeted the room, there were a few that smiled her way and others who returned the greeting. Her eyes caught those of her mate and she couldn’t help the itch that ran up her spine when she saw the seat next to him was taken. Her mate was the first one to look away, his attention retreating back to the female sitting beside him.
Solani sighed and changed the disappointed expression on her face, she smiled at Lugar, who had watched the whole ordeal. He pretended not to notice the longing in her eyes or the turmoil that her mate put her through, so he smiled at her, urging her to brighten up.
Lugar whispered a few words into Micheal’s ear, who gave him a nod before running to meet Solani halfway. He hugged her legs and she couldn’t help the giggle that erupted from her lips.
The table was filled with all the alpha’s, and most of their higher-ups. Some were talking between themselves, others laughing, a few just minding their own business and the rest just looking at Micheal and Solani, and one of them was Lucius.
His eyes swept over her body and his wolf growled in approval. His mate was beautiful and all he wanted to do was run his fingers through that flowing white hair of hers but he held himself. He had to, had to make a decision, but at the same time, he has been singing this to himself for over a month now and there hasn’t been any improvement.
It’s not like he hasn’t tried, he has.
His plan is to avoid any contact with her, avoid any encounters with her, to not give the bond a chance to grow but that seems damn near impossible because where he turns, it’s either she’s there or he just missed her. And the constant nagging from his wolf does not help his situation.
He can feel the bond, he can feel the effects it has on him but he is somewhat thankful grateful that it’s not as bad as it would have been if they had touched it. The thought of touching her plagues him. Just a soft brush, he just wants to know what she feels like beneath his palms, what her hand, her skin feels like in his.
Is it as soft as it looks? Is it a mild fraction of soft and rough? Does her hand fit perfectly in his? Will he even like the feeling he gets from it?
“I’m going to be late for the training session I’m leading,” his attention turns to Gnehji who looks to him and nods before giving her mate a kiss on the cheek. She leaves and passes by Solani without so much of a glance.
“We have that meeting at 8 in the evening, don’t forget Lucius,” Tobias says as he and Kobus get up from the table, “Kobus and I are going for a run around the borders”.
Lucius gives them a nod and the two leave the room, soon enough the rest of the alpha’s start leaving with their men following behind. Lucius is the last to leave, he decides to take a walk around the pack to see if everything is fine, but mostly to clear his head.
On his way, people smile and greet him, some stop to have small conversations with him whilst others are the refugees he has taken in, they stop and tell him how grateful they are.
With the refugees in mind, he remembers the conversation he had with Genhji, about accepting most of them into his pack.
He groans, remembering how much stress the topic gave him, he was already on edge with the fact that Elena could attack at any moment but with the added weight of having to either reject or accept his mate, or the idea of having to keep a level head with all these alpha’s on one territory or the aspect that one day he might have expanded his pack. He has grown tired of the politics of the pack and just wants to breathe.
He inhales and exhales, his wolf shakes his fur, feeling his human release the tension on his shoulder, but both beast and man, grow stiff at the smell of their female nearby.
Lucius turns to watch Solani approach him with a somewhat hesitant smile, he meets her eyes and he sees her pause her walk but she continues and now with a changed posture. Her head is held high and her bold green robs staring right at him, which sends chills down his spine.
He watched her walk with a purpose, and he can’t help but be nervous at what she wanted to say to him. His nerves grow more because of the words that fly out f her mouth the minute she is just standing a metre away from him.
“We need to talk, now!”
