Chapter 198 Bryan's Prank
When Bryan heard the news, he figured those two must've had a serious fight, maybe even talked about splitting up.
But honestly, their fights and divorce threats were like clockwork; they'd be back to normal in a few days.
Bryan had no clue Sophia was pregnant, though.
He didn't want to come off as too nosy, but he also didn't want to seem indifferent. After mulling it over, Bryan just told Michael, "Hey man, maybe ease up on the booze. It's not a great look."
Michael, clearly wasted, didn't get it. He just leaned in, threw an arm around Bryan, and slurred, "Do you think I care about my image? Dude, you care too much about that. What's it worth? One day, you'll see it's all pointless." And with that, Michael passed out on Bryan.
Bryan realized that despite everything, Emily still meant a lot to Michael. Losing her felt like losing everything.
But Emily wasn't answering her phone, and Michael was too drunk to do anything. Bryan felt like he was always playing the hero, saving people left and right. With a sigh, he dragged Michael to the car.
Bryan decided not to take Michael back to Emerald Lake Manor. Instead, he drove him straight to the Smith Mansion. Consider it Michael's way of paying him back for the trouble!
"What did you just say?" Mason banged the table and glared at Benjamin.
Benjamin, shaking, looked down and said, "Mr. Michael Smith was brought back by Mr. Watson. He's passed out in the bedroom and has thrown up a few times. I also heard Mr. Watson say that Mr. Michael Smith is getting a divorce from Mrs. Smith."
Mason wasn't too bothered by the puking; he was used to Michael's low alcohol tolerance. He'd always told him that as the president of Smith Corporation, he needed to handle his liquor better.
But Michael always dodged those lessons. Now, he'd made a fool of himself in front of Bryan. Let's see if he regrets it later!
Mason was more worried about the divorce. He thought the crisis at Smith Corporation would make these two appreciate each other more. But here they were, fighting again.
Seeing Mason so mad, Benjamin was at a loss. He suggested, "Maybe I should have someone take care of Mr. Michael Smith for now, and you can talk to him when he wakes up."
"I have nothing to say to him!" Mason snapped, sitting back in his rocking chair. "Don't let anyone take care of him! If he can't keep my precious granddaughter-in-law, what right does he have to stay here? Keep an eye on him, and as soon as he's sober, kick him out!"
Mason was all tough talk, but he didn't actually have Benjamin kick Michael out.
Still, no one helped him. Michael couldn't even get a glass of water all night.
Early the next morning, Veda knocked on his door. By then, Michael was already somewhat awake, but his head was pounding, leaving him irritable and restless. "Michael, you okay?" Veda asked, bringing him a bowl of hangover soup.
As she handed it over, Michael frowned and grumbled, "Isn't this soup a bit late?"
Veda pouted helplessly. "Blame Grandpa for that..."
At the mention of Mason, Michael's senses sharpened, and he asked, "Does Grandpa know something?"
Veda nodded, "Yeah, you're getting a divorce from Emily, right? Even the gardeners probably know by now."
Michael scratched his head, looking frustrated. "Who told him?"
Michael had completely forgotten about last night, but Veda filled him in.
After all, it was Veda who opened the door for Bryan and Michael last night, and it was Veda who saw Michael lying in Bryan's arms like a damsel in distress.
Veda had tried to stop Michael, but it was too late. Michael hugging the toilet and puking his guts out was also witnessed by Bryan.
Michael groaned, "What did you say? Bryan brought me back?"
Veda replied, "Yeah, Michael, you should never drink outside again. Not only did you embarrass yourself, but you also made me feel awkward. Who knew you'd come back in the middle of the night? I just threw on some pajamas to open the door, and then I saw Bryan was there too... I lost all my dignity."
Hearing this, Michael frowned, completely speechless. "What's so embarrassing about that?"
"I..." Veda couldn't argue with Michael. She muttered, "Good intentions turned into bad ones," and was about to leave when Benjamin walked over.
"Mr. Michael Smith, Ms. Smith. Mr. Mason Smith wants to see you downstairs."
Benjamin then looked at Michael. "Mrs. Smith is here."
Michael was stunned, not knowing how to react. But Veda reacted quickly, her face lighting up with a smile. "Emily is here?"
Veda hurried downstairs.
Seeing this, Michael rolled his eyes and buried his head back in the bed, hoping to avoid reality.
Mason had called, so Emily had to come. She also felt it was necessary to say goodbye to Mason and Veda.
Today, Emily wore casual clothes and simple jeans, a stark contrast to Michael's disheveled state.
She exuded a clean and neat beauty, her skin glowing, and her simple hairstyle added to her carefree vibe. Just like her current attitude towards the Smith family and Michael, she held the same indifferent stance. Seeing Mason, Emily nodded and greeted him. "Grandpa."
Mason nodded, sitting at the head of the dining table, and pointed to a seat beside him, indicating for Emily to sit down.
Mason said, "You haven't been back for a long time. Today, I thought I'd have you try some special food from a friend. I think you'll like it. Take some with you when you leave; it's great for making soup. If you don't know how to make it, have Ava do it."
It seemed Mason didn't know she had already moved out of Emerald Lake Manor.
Emily didn't know how to refuse Mason's kindness, but she had to clarify the divorce with Michael. They couldn't keep dragging it out, pretending in public while being a broken family in private.
Emily said, "Thank you for your concern, Grandpa, but Grandpa... Michael and I, we already..."
Before Emily could finish, there was a noise upstairs. It was Veda, who came running down excitedly when she saw Emily. "Emily, you haven't been back for a while."
Emily smiled at Veda, took her hand, and suddenly Daniel's face flashed in her mind.
