Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“I really don’t know what my dad sees in that Elizabeth. He made her return the biggest deal in the world.” Katherine snorted coldly, becoming increasingly unconvinced as she thought about it.
She walked up to Kaida Clarke and took her arm like a spoiled child, “Mom, don’t you even persuade Dad?”
“That Elizabeth doesn’t even care about us, but Dad still treats her like treasure.” Katherine gritted her teeth.
“I think Elizabeth is a jinx. Whoever sees her will have bad luck,” she continued.
Kaida pulled Katherine to the corner and said, “You silly girl, be careful not to let your father hear these words again. If it weren’t for preventing you from marrying that Andrew Hayes, do you really think your father would bother with her?”
“I said what I said, Mom. It was the truth. Why won’t you let me speak?” Katherine replied.
“Alright, since she is coming back, let her meet us. Anyway, now that she’s married, she wouldn’t pose any threat to us.”
Kaida patiently coaxed as she patted Katherine’s shoulder. “Later, I will naturally have a way to make that cheap girl Elizabeth suffer.”
Hearing this, Katherine snorted softly. “I knew you would help me. Mom.”
“Silly girl, you are my biological daughter. How can Elizabeth compare with you?”
With Kaida’s words, Katherine felt confident. Hearing the doorbell outside, she couldn’t wait to open the door.
After all, Elizabeth married a bankrupt and also a sick person.
Just thinking about it made her feel happy.
But as soon as she opened the door, she saw Andrew Hayes standing there.
Katherine stood there dumbfoundedly, her gaze fixed straight in Andrew’s direction.
It was the first time she had seen such a good–looking man.
“Excuse me…” Katherine kept organizing the language in her mind, wondering what exactly she had to say so as not to be too abrupt.
However, Elizabeth stepped forward and pulled up Andrew’s arm.
“You… you…” Katherine exclaimed and wondered why Elizabeth was holding such a handsome man.
“What happened?” Kaida asked.
Hearing Katherine’s exclamation, she hurriedly walked out.
Following Katherine’s gaze, Kaida also couldn’t help but reveal a stunning look in her eyes.
“Liz, who is this person? Is he your friend?” Kaida saw at a glance that something was wrong with Katherine.
How could she not be clear about her daughter’s thoughts?
“He’s my husband.” Elizabeth pretended to be sweet and leaned on Andrew’s shoulder.
Andrew glanced at Elizabeth and instantly understood from the sly smile on her lips.
He didn’t know that this woman had such a side.
“Hus… husband?” Not only Katherine but also Kaida was stunned.
“Isn’t it said that the only male heir of the Hayes family is bedridden with a chronic illness and crippled?” Kaida wondered.
“How could he be such a handsome man that even the gods are jealous of!”
“Liz? Is it Liz?” David Clarke’s voice came from inside.
“Yes,” Elizabeth responded. Ignoring Kaida and Katherine, she pulled Andrew directly inside.
“Mom, did you see that? Elizabeth is acting like she’s better than everyone else and doesn’t even care about us,” Katherine said sarcastically.
“People who don’t know might think the Clarke family is hers.”
What Katherine couldn’t accept most was that Elizabeth would actually marry such a handsome man.
If she had known this, she would never have let Elizabeth come back to replace her!
Kaida’s face was gloomy, but she didn’t say much.
Chapter 7
The two came to the living room. Elizabeth looked toward the bedroom and said hesitantly, “Wait for me here. I’ll go in and take a look first.”
She did not want Andrew to know about her subsequent conversation with her father.
“Okay.” Andrew did not refuse this time.
Secretly observing in the corner, Katherine was slightly relieved when she saw that Elizabeth had finally left.
“Fortunately, Elizabeth had some insight and didn’t bring this man along with her,” she said inwardly.
“Mom, where’s the fruit you cut just now?” She entered the kitchen and said to Kaida.
Kaida was stunned and didn’t react for a while.
“Kathy, don’t you usually dislike eating fruits?” she asked.
Katherine looked outside and urged impatiently, “Mom, there is a guest here.”
Only then did Kaida understand the meaning of Katherine’s words and hurriedly bring the sliced fruit to Katherine.
“My name is Katherine Clarke.”
Katherine walked out of the kitchen with the fruit plate and headed straight for Andrew.
“Andrew, my name is Katherine Clarke. You can call me Kathy in the future.”
She sat on the sofa beside Andrew, then leaned forward slightly and placed the fruit plate on the table. The neckline on her chest, which was already wide open, became more and more exposed as she leaned forward.
From Andrew’s perspective, the chest area of Katherine was clearly visible. His gaze was slightly cold, and he naturally saw through Katherine’s thoughts.
She
gave Katherine a look of disgust and stood up. “I have mysophobia and don’t like people getting close.”
After saying that, he got up and walked outside.
Only Katherine was left embarrassed and standing in place.
As she watched Andrew leave, Katherine’s anger became more and more intense.
“Andrew Hayes was supposed to be my husband. It’s all because that bitch Elizabeth stole my man,” she thought.
Katherine stared at the place where Andrew had left and smiled disdainfully.
From childhood to adulthood, she never failed to obtain whatever she wanted.
Back then, she could drive the despicable Elizabeth out of the Clarke family with her mother, and now she naturally had a way to drive Elizabeth away from Andrew Hayes.
In David’s room on the second floor.
Elizabeth pushed open the door and looked at her father lying in bed, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
“Liz, are you back?” David asked eagerly when he heard the movement of pushing the door. He tried to turn his head to look in the direction of the door.
“Mm.” Elizabeth took a deep breath to calm down the complicated emotions and walked up to David. “Dad, I’m back.”
David waved at her.
“Liz, come over here and let me take a good look at you.”
“I know you are not convinced about marrying Andrew Hayes, but this engagement was made earlier, and Dad has no choice.”
Elizabeth sneered and said inwardly, “No choice?
“Katherine was right in front of you, but you couldn’t bear to marry her to Andrew. Instead, you spared no effort to find me back as a substitute.”
“Dad, can I ask you a question?” Elizabeth looked at David. She only came back this time to find out about what happened
back then.
“What exactly is wrong with my mother’s illness?”
Elizabeth couldn’t understand why everything had changed in just one night. Her mother was gone, and her father had brought Kaida Clarke and her daughter into their home. The relationship between her father and her had changed entirely
since then.
“What exactly was all this for?” she wondered.
