Chapter 111
After upsetting her that morning, Andrew offered to accompany her to the psychology center to make things right with
Elizabeth.
As they exited the car, Elizabeth walked towards the entrance while Andrew followed closely behind. They stood under the bright neon sign, and Andrew took out his phone to capture the moment. A mischievous smile spread across his face as he posted the photo on Instagram, with a caption that read: “Supporting my wife at her counseling center.”
Elizabeth was already taken aback when they took a photo together, but when she saw the caption he wrote, she was so surprised that she nearly jumped in place.
“How did you…” Elizabeth paused to gather her thoughts. Then, she turned to Andrew with confusion and curiosity and asked, “Who taught you this? I never expected you to post something like this on Instagram.”
“Robert Martin.” Andrew threw his secretary under the bus before adding sincerely, “If I had done this from the beginning. I don’t think anyone would have dared to mess with you
“These happened due to my negligence, so I must make up for it now.”
Although Andrew never proactively supported her. Elizabeth had already used his name several times yesterday to gain leverage in her dealings.
Elizabeth awkwardly touched the tip of her nose and lowered her head, saying. “Thank you.”
Her docile appearance only made her look even more endearing, and as she lowered her head, a few dark red marks on her
shoulders became visible.
Andrew’s heart skipped a beat when he saw the marks on her shoulders. Without hesitation, he embraced her and tenderly planted a kiss on her forehead. “What are you thanking me for? We’re husband and wife, so don’t be so distant,” he coaxed.
“Alright,” Elizabeth replied, feeling quite touched by his gentle approach.
Then, the pair walked side by side into the building. The tension between them dissipated, and a sense of harmony settled in.
As soon as the couple entered the main hall, their eyes fell upon an elegantly dressed elderly woman who was sipping coffee by the lounge area near the window.
Her outfit was adorned with a set of beautiful jade jewelry that shimmered brilliantly under the lights, and this accentuated her elegance.
Regrettably, the elderly woman’s haggard appearance diminished her elegance. Her tired eyes and sallow complexion hinted that she had not been keeping well lately.
“Mrs. Lane?” Elizabeth’s voice rang out as soon as she spotted the elderly woman. “What brings you here? If you need. anything, you could have just given me a call.”
This elderly woman was Susan Lane, the grandmother of Annic, the little girl Elizabeth was caring for.
Yesterday, Elizabeth made some inquiries and discovered that Annie had a complicated family background.
Susan was known to be a successful and ambitious career woman. However, her life took a turn for the worse when her husband passed away at a young age while he was abroad.
When news of her husband’s death reached the country, Susan’s in–laws immediately drove her and her only daughter away from their home.
Susan had relied on her abilities to rebuild her life and start a successful family business, but she only had her daughter to share her success with,
Susan eventually arranged for her daughter to marry into the Clarke family, which was of equal social status. The marriage was initially a happy one, but tragedy struck when her granddaughter, Annie, was three years old. Susan’s daughter and her unborn child died during childbirth,
After the tragic loss of her daughter, Susan was devastated and decided to retreat to the mountains to grieve and recover for a few years. When she returned, she discovered that Annie now had a stepmother and a younger half–brother.
However, as the Clarke family had always shown themselves to be responsible, Susan did not worry about her granddaughter being mistreated, so she did not closely monitor the family’s situation.
But, at the beginning of this year, Susan received the devastating news that Annie was suffering from anorexia.
At first, Susan accepted the Clarke family’s explanation that Annie was simply a teenager intentionally losing weight.
She was unaware of the actual condition of Annie’s life until the bodyguards caused a disturbance.
“Dr. Hayes,” Susan sighed as she greeted Elizabeth. “I have something to tell you.”
As she spoke, Susan’s gaze fell on Andrew as she said as if she wanted him to avoid suspicion.
Chapter 111
This is my husband, Andrew Hayes,” Elizabeth introduced him, and she intended to bring Susan to the backyard.
Then, Andrew suddenly exclaimed, “Mrs. Lane, it’s been a long time since we last met. I’m Andrew from the Hayes family” Susan was momentarily taken aback. She squinted her eyes before exclaiming in surprise, “It’s only been a few years since we last met, but your aura has become even more imposing than before
“Alright, since it’s you, let’s talk together.”
Since Susan had said so, Elizabeth had no intention of deliberately driving Andrew away.
Half an hour later. Elizabeth and Andrew bid farewell to Susan, and as soon as she left, their smiles disappeared.
Elizabeth was taken aback by the news that Annie’s condition had worsened significantly after she returned home the previous day. She could not believe that Annie had gone to the other extreme end.
Annie’s condition had taken a turn for the worse. Previously, she had been anorexic and would not cat anything, but now she would eat whatever was in sight, overeat, and then force herself to vomit afterward.
However, Elizabeth was well aware that the reality was far from what it appeared to be on the surface.
She suspected that Annie’s current behavior was just a facade to conceal an underlying issue, which deeply troubled her.
“Is this something complicated?” Andrew asked Elizabeth after noticing her frown. He hesitated before continuing, “Is there anything I can do to help? Mrs. Lane had previously helped me and my grandfather, so if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.”
After hearing this, Elizabeth let out a sigh of relief, rubbed her forehead, and smiled bitterly before saying. “As you can tell. I am feeling quite lost.
“Mrs. Lane did not even ask me for any help. She is a nice and kind person.
“Is it really that complicated?” Andrew paused for a moment before changing his words. “If it turns out that it’s challenging…”
Elizabeth interrupted Andrew and said, “I can do this.
“Don’t worry, I will think of something.”
“If nothing else works, you can try prescribing some fluoxetine or sertraline?” suggested Andrew.
“How did you know?” Elizabeth asked. She was stunned to hear the names of these two medicines.
These were all medicines commonly used to treat depression. To ordinary people, they were relatively uncommon. Not many people could accurately name them unless they had personal experience taking them before.
Andrew chuckled as he raised his hand to rub Elizabeth’s furrowed brows gently. “I had to take those medicines for a few years after I had an accident when I was young. It just so happened that when I was out with my grandfather, we bumped into Mrs. Lane, who was also taking them for her own recovery.”
He did not elaborate further.
However, judging by Andrew’s current attitude, Elizabeth knew that the help he received was likely a significant favor.
Elizabeth looked at the smiling Andrew and suddenly stepped back, apologizing formally, “I’m sorry.”
“What are you doing?” Andrew asked, dumbfounded. “Are you apologizing because Annie can’t be treated?”
“No.” Elizabeth shook her head and looked at Andrew. “I didn’t follow the proper treatment guidelines for you.”
Hearing that, Andrew’s stnile faded slightly as he lowered his head and let out a chuckle. “You don’t have to apologize. It’s not your fault.”
Andrew’s understanding attitude made Elizabeth feel even more guilty.
“Do you understand why 1… Elizabeth asked, hesitating slightly.
Andrew interrupted Elizabeth, reassuring her, “I understand it’s difficult for you to decide.
“If the fusion fails, one of it will disappear. The previously failed treatment has made you afraid, so you are hesitant and
cautious.
“That’s alright. I’ll wait for you to take your time to adjust.”
“I’m sorry.” Elizabeth apologized. Her eyes instantly turned red when she saw Andrew, who understood everything but still indulged her.
Elizabeth realized that she had been too selfish. She could not continue like this.
She had to quickly adjust her mindset and find a suitable doctor to help her treat Andrew together. She knew it was the right thing to do and was determined to do it.
