Chapter 9
Chapter 9: He Stepped in to Ease the Situation
Being held by Hogan like this, Stacey felt an uncomfortable warmth spreading throughout her body.
“Mr. Barnes, it’s very late.”
“I know.” Hogan hugged Stacey tighter and said in a warning tone, “Don’t move.”
Hearing Hogan’s words, Stacey took a deep breath. This twisted man always seemed to do things that made no sense.
“I’m going to bed now, Mr. Barnes. We can talk tomorrow if there is anything!”
Stacey reminded Hogan that she had to work tomorrow.
Besides, Hogan was in her room. If her mother and William saw him, it would just create needless trouble.
“So what?” Hogan said, raising his hand and pulling Stacey’s
hair.
Stacey’s body emitted an ethereal fragrance quite unlike the strong perfume of other women. She had a light shower gel scent that wafted into Hogan’s nose and drove him crazy.
“Ouch!” Stacey slapped off the hand that grabbed her hair. Her tone was full of helplessness and resentment.
Stacey frowned. “You promised me.”
She had lived with this man in this old mansion for four years.

She thought she knew him, but he had somehow become more despicable and shameless in their three years apart.
Hearing Stacey’s words, the corner of Hogan’s mouth lifted into a triumphant smile.
He made a promise, but that didn’t necessarily mean he would keep it.
Hogan flipped over, pressed her down, and firmly held her chin. “You remember what I said quite well. Now it’s time for you to fulfill your responsibilities and obligations.”
With those words, he nonchalantly lowered his head and captured her lips.
Stacey dodged her head sideways and crossed her arms on her chest. “Bastard, if you want it, why don’t you go to Kama?”
Stacey believed that if it were Kama, she would gladly comply with his desires without hesitation.
In fact, many women would eagerly climb into Hogan’s bed, but for some reason, he chose her.
Hogan clenched his fist hard enough that she heard his joints crack.
He stopped his actions, his eyes filled with gloom.
After a long silence, he gripped Stacey’s chin. “Stacey, we have a long way to go.”
In that sentence, Hogan’s deep anger was evident, and it conveyed that he wouldn’t easily give up.
Hogan then got up and left, slamming the door on his way

out.
Looking at Hogan’s back as he stalked out, Stacey was relieved to have escaped.
Although Hogan had left, Stacey was unable to relax
completely and ended up sleeping tensely that night.

Fortunately, the weather was good the next day, and it swept away Stacey’s worries, lifting her mood.
Stacey changed her clothes and went downstairs. Marian was the only one left busy in the living room, and there was no sign of her mother or Hogan.
“Miss, you’re up? Master and Mistress went out, and the young master also left. When he left, the young master ordered me to leave breakfast for you. I’ll go and heat it up.”
Stacey had always been smart and had a good relationship with Marian. Marian was also delighted when Stacey returned
this time.
“Which young master said that? Big brother?” Stacey rubbed her eyes. Her impression of Dave had always been
affectionate and attentive, and Stacey’s heart was filled with
warmth.
“It’s Hogan,” Marian replied to Stacey’s words, a slight smile on the corner of her mouth.
“Would he be so kind?”
Stacey’s heart was puzzled. After being manipulated by Hogan for a long time, Stacey even wondered if he had poisoned the meal.

Stacey glanced at the clock hanging in the living room. It was almost time to go to work. She hurriedly ate Marian’s hot breakfast and then left the house.
Stacey did not want to see Hogan nor did she want to see Kama, so as soon as she arrived at the office, she punched in and went straight to her office.
All three members of the team were in the same office except for Darren, the head of the legal team.
Stacey got to know them briefly the day before.
Edison Hook, twenty–six years old, had been with the firm for four years and was considered a veteran of the firm.
The other two were female attorneys named Molly and Monica, both of whom had been with Barnes Group for just
over a year.
Stacey also heard that Molly’s father was a prominent figure in the business world and that Molly, who was only twenty- three years old, had Stacey’s admiration.
Stacey had her own reasons for admiring Molly.
She heard that Molly first entered Barnes Group because her father had used his connections without her knowledge, and realizing this, Molly chose to quit without hesitation.
Later, during the Barnes Group recruitment for lawyers, Molly was able to overcome the hurdles on her own merit.
Molly seemed to have a big problem with Stacey because she was not properly recruited into the company.
Molly’s every word was layered with sarcasm.
Stacey didn’t mind much. She believed she would one day convince others of her ability to do her job.
In the evening, Stacey received a call from Lydia.
On the other side of the phone, Lydia simply said, “Stacey, come to Moon Bar. Something happened to Norma,” after which she hurriedly hung up the phone. Stacey did not have the time to ask anything. She reflexively got out of bed and dialed back, but the phone wasn’t answered.
Stacey was really anxious. She had rarely ever seen Lydia panic. Sitting in a cab she hurriedly hailed, Stacey’s hands clutched her phone, desperately afraid that she would miss a call from Lydia. Lydia and Norma were her good friends, and Stacey did not want to see either of them in trouble.
Stacey arrived at Moon Bar twenty minutes later. She couldn’t help but criticize the traffic in LA. Anxious, she quickly paid the parking fee and got out of the cab.
Moon Bar was filled with music and lights, and it was not an easy task to find someone in this huge bar.
Stacey circled around the bar, and finally, in a corner, she spotted Lydia and Norma. It turned out they weren’t in trouble but rather caught up in a big mess.
In her line of sight, Norma and Lydia were surrounded by several men. Lydia was sitting on a couch, trembling with a glass of red wine in her hand. Norma’s arms were held by two men, rendering her completely immobile. Their faces were filled with panic, and Norma was on the verge of tears. It seemed they had encountered some ruffians.
In an instant, anger surged through Stacey’s mind. Without

thinking too much, she ran over and shouted, “Let them go!”
Hearing Stacey’s voice, Norma looked up in panic. “Stacey, you’re finally here.”
Seeing Stacey’s figure, the last line of defense in Norma’s heart finally collapsed. Temporarily forgetting that she was in public, she burst into tears.
Seeing her friends being bullied, Stacey’s anger was unbearable, but when the men saw this, they immediately surrounded Stacey too.
She went over to pull Lydia and Norma away, but the men standing in front of Stacey pushed them back. “Do you think you can just leave like that?”
Seeing that they had no intention of giving up, Stacey’s face darkened. After a moment of silence, she pursed her lips and said, “Since I’m here, I won’t let them stay here.”
While Stacey was thinking about how to get her friends out of this mess, she suddenly saw a familiar figure in the crowd- Hogan. Following closely behind him were Martin and several bodyguards.
But what was this? Running into Hogan when she was in such a mess? Talk about a narrow escape.
Not only Stacey but even Norma and Lydia froze when they saw Hogan. They had been friends with Stacey for many years and naturally knew that Hogan and Stacey were related.
“Stacey!” Lydia called out Stacey’s name softly.
The moment Stacey looked at Hogan, it just so happened that

Hogan also looked at her.

Hogan noticed her being pinned down on the couch and started walking toward them.
Despite coming to a place like a bar, Hogan was still dressed
in a suit, exuding a solemn and cold aura.
When they saw Hogan approaching, the men immediately stood up, their faces filled with caution.
“Let her go.” Hogan seemed to be talking to the man, but his eyes never left Stacey’s body.
Stacey’s clothes were a little disheveled, and Hogan had rarely seen Stacey in such a state of disarray.
Hogan just stood there, clearly not doing anything, but Stacey could feel the anger radiating off of him.
“Who are you?”
Hogan took a few steps forward, directly grabbing the man’s wrist. The sound of bones dislocating was drowned out by the noise in the bar, but the man’s painful cry could be heard clearly.
That cry sent a shiver down Stacey’s spine. She had known that Hogan was decisive and resolute, but today she
witnessed it firsthand.
Seeing Hogan’s actions, his bodyguards immediately surrounded the men.
“Ah, shit! Let go!”
Hogan’s aura was too powerful. He held the man’s wrist, and

none of them dared make a move. “Do you really want to mess with me?”
A moment later, one of the eyes recognized him. The man took a deep breath and spoke in panic, “You’re… Mr. Barnes?”
Dave, the eldest son of the Barnes family, was born to dislike these troublesome matters in the business world and put aside the family business in favor of being a pianist.
Hogan, the second son of the Barnes family, was a business prodigy and known for his cunning and ruthlessness. Those who crossed paths with him never came out unscathed.
