Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Don’t Move
Stacey’s hand trembled slightly. She couldn’t even undo the buckle. Hogan looked helpless and had to hold her hand and teach her step by step.
Hogan’s gaze made Stacey blush and wish she could find a hole to crawl into immediately.
This man, Hogan, was definitely a demon.
“Your job will be arranged. I hope you can get along well with Kama,” Hogan said, inching closer to her as his eyes narrowed dangerously.
“Don’t worry. As long as she doesn’t come after me, I’ll get along with her.” Stacey met Hogan’s gaze. She didn’t have much of a good impression of Kama, but she wasn’t low enough to cause her trouble.
“Very well.” Hogan nodded in satisfaction. “Carry on.”
“Mr. Barnes.”
“Eh?”
“Here…? This is an office!”
“It’s okay. No one will come.”
Stacey pursed her lips, but before she could say anything, the sound of footsteps suddenly came from the corridor. A
moment later, the door of the office was kicked open with a “bang.”

Outside the door, a man in his twenties appeared in front of Stacey. Stacey instinctively pulled back her hand, her face. showing the guilt of being caught in the act.
The man saw this scene, and his face also flashed with embarrassment “Sorry, did I interrupt? Don’t mind me. Just carry on.”
Stacey’s brain buzzed. Who was this man? Why didn’t he knock on the door when he entered Hogan’s office?
“Janet said there’s a new lawyer at the firm. I’m just here to pick her up,” the man said, his eyes sweeping up and down Stacey’s body.
Stacey was embarrassed at being caught in this situation yet glad she could escape.
“Get out.”
Stacey hurriedly straightened her clothes, jumped off the desk, and tried to leave, but she barely took two steps before Hogan grabbed her.
Hogan looked angrily at the man standing in front of the door. “Darren Butler,” he started, his tone icy. “I said get out.”
Faced with Hogan’s rage, the man did not react too much. Undeterred, he said with a smirk, “I came to pick someone up, and I’m not leaving without her.”
Listening to Darren’s words, Stacey realized that he was probably the head of the legal team.
“I should go, Mr. Barnes.” Stacey took another step away from Hogan, hurriedly straightening her clothes as she did.

“This evening, come back to the old house with me.” Hogan’s expression betrayed his anger, and although his words were directed at Stacey, he kept his eyes on Darren.
“I got it.” Hogan meant he was willing to let her go, and Stacey nodded and hurried out of Hogan’s office.
“I’m Darren, the head of the legal team, so if you need anything in the future, you can always call me.” As Darren and Stacey walked side by side in the hallway, he sized Stacey up curiously. When did Hogan start playing with women in his office?
He felt the circumstances around this hire were a bit strange in the first place.
This was explosive news. It seemed Kama’s position was in danger.
“Thanks. I’m Stacey, and I majored in law in college.”
“So you just graduated? Wait… Stacey?”
Hearing that name, Darren suddenly thought of something. Didn’t Hogan have a stepsister named Stacey?
“You’re his sister?”
“Sort of.”
Darren looked at Stacey in amazement, staring at her like she had found a new world. He didn’t expect Hogan to be hooking up with his own sister.
And with the reluctant look he saw on Stacey’s face, Hogan had to be forcing her.

“Mr. Butler, my relationship with Hogan… I hope you keep it a secret for me.”
Darren nodded with a smirk. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep your
relationship with him a secret.”
Stacey felt a wave of frustration wash over her. After returning home for a week without notifying her family, all she received was her mother’s constant reproach.
“When did you come back home? Why didn’t you tell us?”
Stacey’s eyes turned slightly watery upon hearing her mother’s words. After being away for so many years, she felt guilty for not keeping in touch. She was about to say something when Hogan interrupted her. “Karen, you don’t have to worry about her in the future. She’ll work in my company from now on. She’s not going anywhere.”
A moment of silence filled the room as Hogan’s words hung in the air. Dave Barnes, Hogan’s brother, was taken aback as his eyes fixed on Hogan.
Hogan had always been very hostile to Karen Spencer, and unless she initiated a conversation, he would remain silent. So it was unexpected for him to speak up today.
It was as if the sun had risen from the west.
No one knew why Hogan suddenly changed, but Stacey was happy.
The corner of Karen’s mouth suddenly curled into a smile. Stacey could see how happy she was at that moment.
Stacey was naturally happy to see her mother like this.

“Stacey, did you have any boyfriends while you were away?” William asked.
Hearing this question from her stepfather, Stacey’s face reddened slightly.
“No, William. I never planned to find a boyfriend abroad.”
“So you’re planning to find one at home?” Hogan said slowly, his voice carrying a dangerous edge.
Was it Matthew? Ever since he saw Stacey and Matthew together, it had been weighing on his mind.
Stacey tried to avoid Hogan’s gaze which seemed to penetrate her soul. His attention made her uncomfortable.
“So do you have someone you like?” William instantly became animated at Hogan’s words.
“No.”
“No matter.” After listening to Stacey, the smile on William’s face became deeper, and then his eyes fell on Dave’s face. “Dave, now that Stacey is back, you should come and visit more often on weekdays so our family can get together more often.”
“Dad, don’t worry. I know.” Dave smiled but inwardly sneered, “Even if you don’t say so, I’ll come back to see her more often.”
Stacey suddenly froze. William’s words seemed to imply something else. He seemed to be trying to connect her and Dave somehow.
As she looked around in confusion, her eyes met Hogan’s

Hogan’s gaze made Stacey extremely uncomfortable. The nature of their relationship was unbearable for her, but in front of her mother and William, she couldn’t act out.
This arrogant, unconventional, grumpy man seemed to take pleasure in bullying her.
Stacey’s hands were clutching the corners of her coat. Sooner or later, she would have to pay Hogan back twice as much for the humiliation she had suffered.
“You’ve had little contact with your family for the past three years. It’s been a while since we last saw you. You’re staying here tonight!” William looked at Stacey. She was gone for three years, and during those three years, Karen’s longing for her daughter had not gone unnoticed by him.
“Okay,” Stacey agreed. She had always planned to stay the night.
After dinner, Hogan and Dave left the house, and Stacey went
to her room.
Looking at the familiar surroundings, scenes from the past kept intruding into her thoughts. Most of her memories of the house came from Hogan.
In the night, an abrupt knock on the door woke Stacey up. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked in the direction of the door in surprise.
The knocking continued, and Stacey quickly got up and got
out of bed to answer the door.

Just as Stacey’s hand reached the doorknob, the door was pushed open from the outside, banging into her head. Startled, she let out a cry and quickly stepped back, covering
her head.
“Stacey,” Hogan’s voice crashed into her ears, causing Stacey’s heart to skip a beat.
In the darkness, Stacey could vaguely see Hogan standing outside the door with a jacket on his arm and his hair damp, probably from the rain.
Stacey was slightly stunned and looked at Hogan and wondered aloud, “Why are you back?”
Hogan just faintly swept her a glance and didn’t answer her. Instead, he strolled into her room and demanded, “Towel.”
“I don’t have any here. Why don’t you wait a minute? I’ll go get them from Marian.” Stacey said, planning her escape. If she knew the person at the door was Hogan, she would’ve rather pretended to sleep.
“No need.” Hogan’s low voice rang out in the room. The room was so dimly lit that Stacey couldn’t see his expression.
He walked over to the bed and sat down, loosening his somewhat tight tie. Stacey could hear from his tone that he wasn’t in a good mood.
Stacey was about to turn on the light in the dark when she suddenly felt her waist being held tightly and her back. pressing into Hogan’s chest.
They couldn’t see each other’s faces in the darkness. Stacey was so frightened that she wanted to scream, but she was

In the past, they would never have been this close to each other.
