Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Mean and Nasty
Janet was amazed at Stacey’s decisiveness.
She had been so reluctant just the moment before, yet Mr. Barnes managed to convince her with a few words.
Janet had never doubted Hogan’s ability, but she knew that apart from Kama Gray, Hogan didn’t allow any of his women to disturb him at the company. Stacey’s position in Hogan’s heart seemed to be quite different.
“Can I change the content of the contract?” Stacey looked at
Janet.
“No,” Janet smiled and answered, “Every article on it is agreed by Mr. Barnes. No one can change the staff contract at will without Mr. Barnes‘ order.”
“If that’s the case, what am I looking at?” After Stacey signed her name, she handed the document back to Janet. “You can take it and resume your duties.”
“Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. White. May I ask if you can work tomorrow?”
“If I’m still alive tomorrow, then yes.”
The Barnes Group had its own group of lawyers, and every lawyer in it was the cream of the crop in the legal profession. It was a great learning opportunity for Stacey to be in the Barnes Group.
She liked the job, but she didn’t like the idea of Hogan as her

After Stacey signed the contract, Janet left the villa satisfied.
Stacey washed her face and went downstairs, ready to leave the villa. But as she reached the front door, she was stopped by two bodyguards.
Behind her, Martin’s voice came slowly, “Where are you going, Ms. White?”
“Am I not allowed to go home?”
“Of course, you may go home, but I hope you’ll be smart and not do anything stupid.”
Stupid? Would she be stupid enough to go and commit suicide?
Hanging would take too long.
Taking poison would be too painful.
Jumping into the river would make her body swell and look ugly.
Stacey ignored Martin and shoved a bodyguard’s arm aside as she left the villa.
Stacey heaved a sigh of relief as soon as she left Bourland Villa. Hogan had bullied her before, but this time he had gone
too far.
She had been abroad for three years and enjoyed her stay in Paris. Now that she was back in the country, she had encountered him like this within a week. But perhaps it was better this way. She didn’t need to hide from Hogan anymore;

and she could go back and see her mother and William.
Lydia was watching TV when Stacey got home. She glanced at the screen and saw a live broadcast of a banquet where Kama was sweetly accompanying Hogan, holding his arm.
This image caught Stacey’s eye, and she clearly noticed the necklace Kama was wearing was the same one that Hogan had spent a hundred million on.
After all these years, the two of them were still together?
Stacey couldn’t believe her luck. Not only had she run into him when she least expected, but now he was the first person
she saw on TV.
Rather annoyed at this point, Stacey walked over and turned off the TV, causing Lydia to finally notice her. “You look down. Did your date not go well?” she asked, tossing an apple to Stacey.
Stacey took a bite of it and gave Lydia a blank look. After a long time, she said, “I saw him, Lydia.”
“Huh?” Lydia didn’t pay much attention and remained nonchalant. Then, suddenly realizing something, her mind exploded. “You’re talking about Hogan, aren’t you?”
Stacey nodded faintly.
Lydia’s ears immediately perked up the moment she heard
that name.
Stacey smiled slightly, but her smile carried a trace of imperceptible bitterness. They hadn’t seen each other in a long time, yet Hogan went ahead and did something so

Lydia was well aware that without Hogan, Stacey might not have left LA.
She had gone to Paris to escape his bullying, oppression, and her own stupid heart.
Barnes Group was located in the bustling downtown of LA with luxurious decoration and extraordinary grandeur. The company may not be the best, but it was definitely among the top.
When Stacey walked into the office, Kama immediately
recognized her and called out her name, “Stacey, it’s been a while.”
When she heard her name being called, Stacey looked over at the source of the voice, then froze slightly and asked in
confusion, “Kama?”
She never expected to see Kama at Barnes Group. Not only was she here, but she was also wearing a Barnes Group employee ID card that identified her as Hogan’s secretary.
It was really her–the woman she hadn’t seen in three years!
The soft light in the hall hit her face, showing her gentle
sweetness.
“It’s me, Stacey. Hogan sent me to pick you up.” Kama smiled at her. Seeing this, Stacey’s heart ached fiercely. Kama and Hogan had always been inseparable.
