Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Be My Woman
When Stacey woke up, it was already bright outside. The sunlight seeped through the cracks in the curtains, causing her puffy eyes to sting. The pain in her body reminded her of what happened last night, and the crimson stains on the bedsheets were further proof of what Hogan did to her the night before.
From the moment they met, Hogan had loved to bully her constantly, but now he had crossed a line.
She would never have chosen to return home if she had
known it would come to this.
She couldn’t remember how long she had been crying when a sudden knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. The voice of Martin, the bodyguard, came into her ears. “Ms. White, are you awake?”
Stacey quickly wiped the tears from her face. “Is there a problem?” she asked.
“Ms. White, the young master said earlier that your clothes were ripped. I’ve brought a maid with me to deliver some clothes to you. Can she come in?”
Martin’s respectful voice came from outside the door. Only then did Stacey notice the clothes lying on the floor. Her clothes had long been ripped to pieces by Hogan.
After doing something so despicable and dirty, he had the audacity to say her clothes were ruined.

Stacey didn’t recognize Hogan anymore. He was even more domineering, wicked, and even perverted than he was three years before.
“Thanks. You can send her in.”
The door to the room was pushed open, and a woman in her twenties appeared in front of Stacey. She walked over to the bed and handed Stacey the clothes in her hands.
“Good morning, Ms. White. Mr. Barnes asked for these to be sent to you.”
“Thank you.” Stacey took the clothes and chose the simplest, long white dress and put it on.
The woman smiled faintly, but her gaze couldn’t help but fall on the bruises that marked Stacey’s body. She had never seen Mr. Barnes handle any woman this roughly, despite how many
he often had over.
Stacey got dressed and dragged her tired body out of bed. “What should I call you?”
“I’m Doreen Cooper, Ms. White.”
The woman smiled slightly, her eyes subconsciously landing on Stacey’s neck. “Ms. White, I’ll take my leave now. Mr. Barnes instructed me that if you need anything, you can come find me anytime.”
Watching Doreen leave, Martin walked into the room.
Following Martin was a young woman in professional attire with a pile of papers in her hands.
“Hello, Ms. White. I’m Janet Linos, Mr. Barnes‘ secretary,” said

Janet stepped forward and looked at Stacey with a sweet smile on her face.
“Ms. White, I am here this time on behalf of my boss. He admires you so much that he wants you to join the Barnes Group’s private legal team.”
Janet said and immediately handed the document in her arms to Stacey. “This is the contract drawn up by my company. Kindly go through it, Ms. White. If there’s no problem, I hope to get the contract signed as soon as possible.”
“Stacey, I’m interested in you right now. I can give you
everything you want. A house, a car, money, a job? You just name it.”
Hogan’s words echoed in Stacey’s head again. What was he doing? A handout for her after he slept with her?
She, Stacey, didn’t need it.
“I’m sorry, Miss Janet, but I can’t take this job.”
“Ms. White, my task is only to deliver the contract. As for whatever reason you may have to reject it, you’d have to communicate with my boss directly.””
“I don’t think I need to say anything to him. Please tell him that I can’t do the job and ask him to find someone else.”
“Ms. White, please don’t make things hard for me,” Janet said. She took out her cell phone and quickly dialed a number.
The phone was instantly answered, and Janet called out respectfully, “Boss, Ms. White won’t sign the contract.”

Stacey’s face darkened. Did she really need to report to Hogan immediately?
After a few exchanges, Janet handed the phone to Stacey, “Ms. White, the boss wants you to answer the phone.”
Seeing the pleading look on Janet’s face, Stacey reluctantly took the phone.
“Stacey,” Hogan called her name faintly on the other side of the phone.
When she heard Hogan’s voice, Stacey’s grip on the phone tightened as her hatred for Hogan soared to new heights. “Just give up, Hogan.”
“I just wanted to ask you, last night, how did you feel?” Hogan’s voice remained indifferent, devoid of any emotions.
“Disgusting.” Stacey’s teeth clenched with anger. He really had no shame.
“You’ve been away too long, I just wanted you to get to know me again.”
On the other side of the phone, Hogan was holding his phone in one hand and playing with a pen in the other.
He was doing this as nothing more than a punishment for her being away for three years.
“Dad was so good to you. If he found out what happened yesterday, he would help you get revenge.”
“Bastard.”
Stacey scolded him harshly.

She knew what Hogan meant. He was indirectly threatening her, saying that her mother and William should not find out about this. He had no shame, but she did.
“You have such few curse words. All you can come up with are ‘disgusting‘ and ‘bastard.“”
Stacey paused for a moment and called his name coldly, “Hogan.”
“What?”
“If I agree, will you keep this from my mother?”
“Very well, I promise you.” Receiving a satisfactory answer, Hogan’s tone eased, and the next moment, he simply hung up the phone.
Stacey was so angry that her face turned white. She handed the phone back to Janet, and without waiting for her to say anything, Janet handed her the contract and a pen.
Stacey indignantly flipped open the contract and signed on the last page.
“Ms. White, aren’t you going to read the contract?”
