Chapter 1183
Flora raised an eyebrow, keeping her silence.
"If you don't start talking, I swear I'll shoot!" Eula snapped, his finger twitching on the trigger just to scare her. But Flora had him wrapped around her finger by now, so she wasn't worried in the slightest. In fact, she looked quite relaxed. Eula was grinding his teeth in frustration. This infuriating woman was keeping him on edge, playing her cards way too close to her chest.
"I'll help you with your experiment, but you've got to promise me something first," Flora finally said.
"You first," Eula responded cautiously. Flora had been too calm since she walked in, like she had a whole plan up her sleeve. Who knows what she'd ask for?
"I'll tell you later," Flora shrugged, "If you don't want to agree, then let's just forget it."
"Alright, fine, I agree!"
Eventually, Eula couldn't hold out and gave in.
Flora got up calmly, and Eula handed her a sterile suit. She slipped it on and walked into the operating room. Eula hurried after her!
An older man, well into his fifties, was trailing behind Flora, his eyes practically glued to her. Annoyed by his hair, he tied it up into a little bun.
Flora picked up the instruments and started her experiment, her movements steady and controlled, like a seasoned pro.
Eula watched, captivated, not daring to blink.
"Back off a bit. You're distracting me," Flora said, glancing at him without any expression.
"I didn't say a word!" Eula protested.
"Your presence is enough of a distraction," Flora replied.
Eula: "..."
"If this experiment fails, don't blame me," she added.
Eula stifled his irritation and stepped aside. This infuriating woman better know what she's doing.
"Go dig into her background," he instructed the old man quietly once outside. He was impressed by Flora's talent. He'd heard she was just a regular person from Austenberg with no real connections, which made her all the more appealing to him. But he'd also heard she had ties to Lone Island. Still, he was determined to keep her on the island. She was too confident, though, so he'd have to go through her family to get to her.
"Yes," the old man nodded respectfully and left. Eula quickly returned to the lab, closely observing every move Flora made, jotting down notes on everything she did differently from him.
He was on the edge of his seat! So close to seeing her succeed where he had failed!
Unable to resist, Eula moved in closer to watch.
Flora glanced at him and smirked, thinking how naive he was to think he could just pick up on her methods Medical experiments were delicate, even a tiny error could lead to disaster. She had kept a few tricks up her sleeve, ensuring couldn't just imitate her success.
Meanwhile, Eula was dazzled by her skill, more determined than ever to keep Flora on the island.
Elsewhere, a young man had rallied his crew. Having grown up on the island, he had his own small force, just about enough to stand against Eula's men.
"Sir, are you really going to go against the professor for Flora? He's been like a father to you for so many years..." Axiang voiced his concerns.
He thought it wasn't worth it to cross Eula over a woman, considering Eula had raised the young master. If things blew up, the young master might find himself unwelcome on the island.
"Once I get my sister out, I'll make things right with my foster father," the young man assured. He was grateful to Eula, but he couldn't let Flora be in danger.
"Stop dragging your feet and let's get to the lab!" he said impatiently, heading there himself.
From the shadows, Connor and Moss watched the scene unfold.
"Boss, Beck has reached out to our folks and is on his way," Moss whispered. Thanks to the young man pulling nearly half the island's forces, the island's defenses were weak, allowing Beck to slip out smoothly. "Have him here within half an hour," Connor instructed.
""Yes."
""Let's move."
Connor saw the young man leave and followed. He was relieved the young man genuinely cared for Flora, buying them a bit more time.
Meanwhile, over at Club 257, Kruz
and Adrian were still around. Jason
had ordered them to hang tight at Club 257 for now. The pros from Enforcement Division and
the
Intelligence Division were handlin the search for Flora and Cor. It was better if these two stayed out of it, given their knack for trouble.
Kruz and Adrian were still new to Empire Base and not particularly powerful, so they weren't wronged by being called troublemakers.
Jason was keen to prevent any net
more complications, especially with Flota and Connor missing. Kruz and Adrian had to steer clear of any further mishaps.
Kruz was on the phone when he and Adrian were lifting wood. Crimson walked by, effortlessly carrying a massive log, looking at them with disdain. These two needed more training. "What? A big group from Empire Base is headed to the medical facility?" Kruz blurted out, startled, letting go of the log, which crashed onto Adrian's foot!
"Damn it, are you nuts?" Adrian cursed in pain.
"Shut up!" Kruz barked, urgently asking the caller, "What's going on? Why's everyone rushing to the medical facility all of a sudden?!"
"Jason didn't say, but I've got a bad feeling about this," the person on the other end replied.
