Chapter 7
Emery was having a staring competition with the brother who introduced himself as Chase. Well to her she was anyway. Emery stood on the bed to make herself bigger because these people were giants to her. She put her hands on her hips and was glaring at Chase but did not dare blink at all.
Everyone else watched on amused at the little girl who clearly didn't fear anyone. She was amusing them all. "Huh you blinked I win. I'm marrying at 24 and having lots of babies" Emery cheered out when Chase had in fact blinked without realising he was in a staring contest at all. Chase looked confused but it clicked quickly what Emmy had said. "No way, I didn't know we were in a staring competition. You are never having babies or getting married" Chase cried out while uncle Mike couldn't help but laugh.
Here was a grown arse man fighting with his baby sister. She was 6 for god sake and had no idea what marriage or having babies meant but Chase was treating it all like it was set in stone. Uncle Mike didn't know who was the child in this situation. Emery shrugged her shoulders still looking at Chase. "Not my fault I didn't make the rules of a staring competition, I just follow them and you lost which means I can get married and have babies at 24. Don't be mad though, that's how I beat daddy too" Emery stated before sitting back on the bed.
Everyone burst out laughing, clearly Marcus was just as protective over Emery and hadn't actually agreed to let her marry and have children. He had lost to a little girl just like Chase had done. Emery wasn't sure why everyone was laughing at all but she was trying to come up with a way to survive until she was 24 and got married. Emery knew she needed the bags which contained her and her daddies things as well as Nix and maybe some food or money.
"Hey mister, can I have some money? I'll get my husband to pay you back" Emery asked Chase. Jasper burst out laughing at the little girl who was pushing buttons without realising it. "No" Chase grumbled out. "What about some food then?" Emery asked. She was not going to be deterred from asking, she knew stealing was wrong and didn't want to continue. Maybe they would give her a job so she could buy some food. She couldn't do much in the way of a job but she had to try something.
"Emmy, why do you want money and food?" Uncle Mike asked. He could see her mind working over time and wanted to know what she was thinking. "To survive Uncle Mikey. You see stealing is bad daddy said. I'm 6 now so I have to eat something till my husband arrives and for that I need food or money. If you can't give me that, maybe a job like daddy use to have" Emery rambled on before uncle Mike put his hand gently over her mouth. "Emmy, you are staying here and that's final" uncle Mike said sternly.
Emery was not one to be told what to do at all. She had been on her own for lots of sleeps and she had not had to answer to anyone in that time. She didn't plan on doing it now. "No" Emery stated confidentially. Jasper and Seb burst out laughing at the little girl who was sizing up their father again.
One glare from their dad had them shutting their mouth quick smart though. He turned that glare on Emery as well so she would understand he was in charge. "Emery Quake. You are staying here and you will not argue with me" uncle Mike said firmly. The boys looked worried because they didn't know how Emery would react to at all. She had passed out when they had grabbed her after running away and they were worried she would do it again.
Emery was not going to be bullied by these people. She had been bullied in preschool before they had to run and her daddy had told her what to do. He had taught her how to stick up for herself against the bullies and that was what she was going to do now. It had worked against Jamison so it would work now against Uncle Mike. Emery squared her shoulders making herself look bigger then she was and looked at uncle Mike.
"Listen here you big bully. You don't get to say that to me. You are not my boss and I don't have to listen to you at all. In fact talk to the hand cause the face ain't listening" Emery stated while turning her face to the side and putting her hand up in front of uncle Mike's face. Jasper, Taz, Seb and Chase burst out laughing at what Emery had just done making her look at them smiling. That was the same reaction she had got at preschool which had caused the bully to run away crying.
Uncle Mike sat there shocked that Emery had reacted that way. He looked at the little girl and her hand that was in his face and shook his head. She really was her father's daughter because Marcus had dealt with things with humour as well. Uncle Mike moved Emery's hand out of his face and attempted to stop the smile on his face. "Listen here cheeky monkey. I know your daddy taught you that so I'll let that little attitude slide for now. Your daddy left me as your legal guardian if something happened to him. And seeing you are a child, you are my responsibility until you are married" Uncle Mike stated.
Emery puffed out her cheeks, she didn't really understand what was being said. She tapped her foot trying to think of what her daddy would do in a situation like this, but she couldn't think of one because the words he used didn't make sense to her. "Now before you think of something else to sass me about, let's get you some food" Uncle Mike stated scooping the little girl into his arms. "Hey mister uncle Mikey, I ate today so I'm good for three sleeps" Emery stated as uncle Mike was walking out of the room causing all the Quake men to stop in there tracks.
