Finding Emery

Emery wasn't sure what dying meant at all. Emery cocked her head to the side looking at the guy who she now knew was her big brother. "Do you know what that means sweetheart?" Seb asked. Emery shook her head no as she didn't know at all. She just wanted her daddy to come back so they could cuddle together. She had been so alone for so long. She was sick of it to be honest, she had had to steal food from shops and also clothes and shoes when she grew bigger but that was only once. She had lost count of how many sleeps she had been on her own now.

"Baby it means that daddy is never coming back. He got hurt by bad people and he lost his life" uncle Mike told his niece who nodded her head. "So I'm by myself forever now?" Emery whimpered. She really didn't like being alone in the shed at all. Yes she had Nix but she was still alone. "Wait where is Nix?" Emery squealed trying to jump out of her uncle's hold.

Taz, Chase and Seb looked at each other, they had no idea who Nix was at all. Uncle Michael and Jasper did though, as she had been talking to the bear when she entered the shed where they found the little girl. Jasper strolled to the bed picking up the little bear and showed Emery. Emery jumped out of her uncles arms and rushed towards Jasper throwing herself on his legs and wrapping her arms around them because he was to tall to reach anywhere else.

Jasper smiled down and Emery and scooped her into his arms where she quickly grabbed Nix from his hands. "Hey" Taz and Chase both yelled at the same time. They wanted to hold their sister before Jasper or Seb. They couldn't argue with uncle Mike out of respect but they could with their cousins. Jasper smirked at the pair until he felt Emery squirming in his arms to be put down.

Once Emery was on the ground she looked towards uncle Mike as she assumed this was his house. "Thank you for bringing me here but once I have my bags I'll go back to my shed" Emery stated matter of factly. She didn't have anywhere else to go so she claimed the shed as her own. "What?" They all asked as once not quiet believing what Emery had said. "I'm going back to my shed. It's my home now that daddy isn't coming back" Emery said again nodding her head. She had made the decision because she didn't know what else to do. While she didn't like it there at all, she had no where else that was relatively safe.

"Emery you are not going back there" uncle Mike stated standing up from the floor. "That's my home and I'm going back" Emery stated while putting her hands on her hips. Seb and Jasper couldn't help but laugh at the little girl standing up to the leader of the Quake's like it was an every day thing. "You are 6 Emery, you can not live on your own" uncle Mike tried to explain. "I did it since I was four and I will do it till I'm 24 and get married" Emery stated matter of factly.

Taz and Chase were not happy at all, there is no way that Emery would be getting married at all if they had anything to do about it. Uncle Mike was shocked that the little girl was standing up to him. No one ever did at all. "Listen here little miss, you are not living alone. I'm your uncle and you will be staying here with your family" uncle Mike stated. Emery shook her head no, she didn't know these people well at all. While she would like to stay so she wasn't alone she couldn't expect these people to care for her. If they did they would of found her when her daddy had died.

"Emery, we tried looking for you after the police told us about Dad" Taz said after Emery had said what she was thinking out loud without realising it. "Hey mister don't read my mind" Emery stated. "Emmy you said it out loud" Taz explained. "So you didn't look in my brain?" Emery asked causing everyone to chuckle and shake their heads no. Emery nodded her head, she was glad they couldn't look in her brain at all.

"Emery, have you stayed in the shed the entire time since your dad was gone?" Jasper asked. He couldn't believe how close the little girl had been to where they lived and yet no one could find her. Emery nodded her head yes before stating "when the sun was up I sat waiting for daddy to come back unless I needed to do a wee. Before it got dark I showered at the beach and then slept in the shed" Emery told them all. "What about food sweetheart?" Seb asked.

Emery looked down, she didn't want to tell them she stole the food from the shop incase she got in trouble. She knew it was wrong but she was just so hungry and her daddy's money had ran out after 10 sleeps. "You won't be in trouble sweetheart" Seb continued when the little girl didn't answer. "I stole it" she mumbled before looking up to see everyone's face. "But only when I was really hungry and hadn't eaten in a few sleeps" Emery rushed out.

Everyone was shocked at what Emery said. For one, how did she know what stole meant and two, she said only after a few sleeps. "Emery, you shouldn't be going without food hunny. That's not ok at all" Chase said walking closer to his sister. "Daddy didn't have anymore money and he told me stealing was bad. Mummy showed me how to steal before the ambulance took her away" Emery told them.

"Oh Hunny" Chase said before pulling his sister into a hug. "I'm sorry Emmy that we weren't there sooner. But we are never letting you go at all. And you are not ever getting married" Chase stated before mumbling the last part. Emery pushed her brother away and glared at him. "I am getting married at 24 and having babies" she stated stomping her foot while she said it. Daddy said she could get married at 24 and no one was going to stop her.
