Chapter 38
All hell broke loose when the rest of the Quake men saw Emery's face. Uncle Mike was yelling at Kody for not informing him that Emery had been injured. Taz was yelling about killing whoever hurt his baby sister. Jasper was the only one watching Emery who continued to flinch and shrink with every yell that was spat from the Quake's.
Tucker noticed how scared Emery was so pulled her back into his chest. Paulo and Lucas closed in on her using their bodies as a shield. They would protect Emery at all costs, even against the leaders of the gang that theirs families were working for. "Enough" Jasper yelled when he saw the little girl huddled into Tucker and her shoulders shaking.
Uncle Mike swung around glaring at Jasper who had stopped his rant. "Don't you dare ..." he started to say only to be cut off by the little sob that could be heard coming from Emery. Jasper then pointed to the scene in front where the three kids were protecting Emery who was clearly crying. "Oh Princess come here" uncle Mike cooed thinking she was crying from the injuries. Emery shook her head no, she was scared of them and them hurting her.
"Kody get Bentley" Jasper stated which sent Kody running out of the room thankful for the escape. "Emmy, Bentley will check your face sweetheart" Jasper said softly trying to get close to her to check she was ok. "You scared her" Tucker bit out and used his body so that Jasper couldn't reach Emery turning to the side still gripping onto Emery. "No she is crying because she is in pain" Taz clarified trying to get to his sister.
Paulo and Lucas moved to block Taz from reaching Emery. They would protect her as well. "She is crying because you scared her and she thinks she is in trouble" Tucker bit out again. It was then that Taz noticed the marks on all the boys faces. "Which one of you hit my sister?" Taz spat.
"None of us hurt her. You are all scaring her stop yelling" Lucas spoke up. "Lucas stay out of it" Tristan rushed out scared his son was going to cop it from the Quake's. "No dad, they are scaring my friend and they won't listen even if we did tell them what happened" Lucas replied. Uncle Mike frowned at that and couldn't help but feel guilty because he hadn't even bothered to ask Emery what had happened.
Bentley walked in to the living room followed by Kody who was reluctant to come back into the firing line. "What's happened?" Bentley asked when he couldn't see who he was suppose to be treating. "Emery, let Bentley look at your face sweetheart. You are not in trouble" Jasper said softly so he wouldn't scare Emery any more then she was. Emery shook her head no, she didn't want to show her face again because then there would be yelling.
"If they promise not to yell, will you let Bentley look at your face?" Tucker asked. Emery had once again spoken her thoughts because she was worried. Chase and Taz frowned, they hadn't thought when they were yelling and now realised they had in fact scared their baby sister. They never wanted Emery to be scared to them at all. "Emery, princess we promise not to yell if you let Bentley take a look at your face" uncle Mike stated. "I'll hold your hand the whole time" Tucker added before kissing Emery on the top of the head.
Emery slowly moved away from Tucker but gripped his hand as hard as she could so he wouldn't leave. "I won't go, I promise Emmy" Tucker told the little girl who nodded her head but refused to look at her family at all. Emery, Tucker, Paulo and Lucas moved towards Bentley who had sat himself on the coffee table so he was not towering over Emery. Bentley couldn't help but smile at the three boys who were shielding Emery as she made her way to him. He thought it was the sweetest thing ever.
Emery lifted her face so Bentley could have a look at her gusted lip. "Ouch, what happened here princess?" Bentley asked quietly as he could see the fear in Emery's eyes. "An older boy threw the ball into my face" Emery mumbled. Emery had felt safe looking at Bentley because he was not yelling. She had forgotten everyone else was here and that they weren't suppose to tell anyone because then Tucker, Paulo and Lucas jumped the boy hitting him for hurting Emery. When his friends joined in as well, all the kids had been throwing punches. Emery even kicked one of the boys making him cry.
"Hmm, you don't need stitches but maybe some ice for the lip to help with the swelling" Bentley concluded. Emery nodded her head while Kody slipped into the kitchen to retrieve some ice. "Do you boys want to tell me how you ended up with bruises on your face and knuckles?" Bentley asked. Everyone else in the room remained quiet wanting to know what the hell had happened.
Kody handed out ice to all the kids but none of them were saying how any one else got their bruises. They were all shrugging their shoulders. None of them wanted to get in trouble for starting a fight because they were protecting Emery. Tristan's phone rang and he stepped out of the living room to answer it seeing it was the school.
When Tristan walked back into the lounge room it was still quiet. The four kids were huddled together on the couch with Emery on Tucker's lap. The Quake's were still wanting answers but knew they had scared Emery by yelling so weren't sure what to do. Tristan cleared his throat. "So that was the principle, you four got into a fight with boys in year 4. What were you all thinking?" Asked Tristan.
"They hurt Emery so we took care of it" Tucker replied shrugging his shoulders again. He didn't see the big deal. The boys got what they deserved. "What do you mean they hurt Emery?" Asked Jasper. "Did they throw the ball in her face?" Taz asked connecting the dots. All the kids nodded yes. "But Tucker punched him and then his friends came and one grabbed me but I kicked him and he fell down crying" Emery rushed out not wanting to be in trouble or her friends to get in trouble. She especially didn't want her future husband getting in trouble.
"Ok boys, thank you for protecting Emmy" Chase stated. He was glad they helped her even through he was annoyed his sister had got hurt. "That's it Tristan, I'll be there tomorrow for these reading groups" uncle Mike spat before mumbling "and to deal with these kids" hoping no one else heard. He was annoyed that kids thought they could hurt his niece and was going to use these reading groups as a way to warn all the kids. "We will all be at reading groups" Jasper added knowing exactly what his dad was thinking. "Uh boss, only one can come" Tristan stated not wanting all the Quake's at the school.
