Chapter 32
It had been two weeks since Emery returned to the Quake's house. Roberto and Maria had stayed a few days and were glad to see Emery engaging a little more. She spoke with Maria and helped her to make cup cakes with sprinkles and also vanilla slice which Emery didn't like at all. She had been eating a little more and had put on four kilos in two weeks. She had stayed on a drip for three days until Bentley decided she didn't need it anymore if she continued to eat and drink on her own.
Emery was very cautious of Uncle Mike and the others leaving her again. She didn't like to sleep with them but would sleep with Kody, Bentley or Taz if she had a nightmare. Bentley was kept on because Emery had grown attached to him as had Kody and Bass was still walking on this ice with the Quake's. Uncle Mike, Chase, Seb and Jasper were jealous of the relationship Emery had with the others because they wanted to be that close with Emery, but her play therapist assured them it would take time for Emery to feel safe with them after they had abandoned her like her daddy, which was Emery's words not hers. Emery was doing play therapy and music therapy to help her through the trauma of losing both parents and feeling abandoned.
Today Emery was starting school and she was very nervous. She was worried she wouldn't make friends as well as worrying about having to eat lunch in front of everyone. She still didn't eat a lot but she was trying. She also was worried that the Quake's would abandon her again while she was at school. Uncle Mike had assured her that they would all be waiting for her when she got home.
Kody was responsible for driving Emery to and from school. He would hand Emery over to Tristan who was another trusted member that worked at the school. Uncle Mike had wanted to take Emery to and from school on her first day but she didn't want him to. She had allowed Taz to come with her though. She didn't want everyone looking at her with all of the Quake's coming with her.
Seb helped to do Emery's hair which she was grateful for. Seb was able to style curly hair so it wasn't just in a bun. Seb had practised a lot in the two weeks Emery was back. Emery loved when people played with her hair. She liked bouncy curls but sometime she wanted something else. This morning Seb did two little space buns and left some of Emery's curls out. She thought her hair looked pretty. Taz and Chase were the best at getting her curls bouncy as they had similar hair as Emery's.
After breakfast everyone wished Emery a great day at school and reassured her that they would be waiting for her to get home from school. Uncle Mike also threatened Kody and Tristan the night before, he warned them that there shouldn't be a hair out of place when Emery returned from school otherwise they both would cop it. Taz took his own car this morning and drove Emery while Kody followed close behind. Emery was really quiet in the car and Taz was worried she wouldn't have a good day at school.
When Emery arrived at school Kody and Taz took her to the office where they met Tristan. Emery was going to be in his class. "Emmy, have a beautiful day at school hunny. I will pick you up when it's over and we can get ice cream ok?" Taz asked Emery when she refused to let go of his hand to go to class. Taz knelt down in front of Emery and pulled her into his chest. "I will be waiting at the door for you, I promise. And if you get worried Nix is in your bag" Taz whispered causing Emery to smile. She wasn't alone here after all. "I love you Emmy" Taz said before letting go of Emery and nodding at Kody.
Kody walked with Tristan and Emery to class. "Ok princess Emery, if anything happens or you are worried you tell Tristan here and he will call me. I will be right around the corner so I will come straight here" Kody told Emery who nodded her head before waving to Kody and looking up at Tristan. "Ok Emery, if you get scared or upset let me know and I can call your brother or Kody for you. This class is fun though and they are really nice. I'm sure you will make lots of friends" Tristan assured the little girl before walking into the classroom to greet his other students.
The day progressed and Emery was having fun, she liked when Tristan read to the class and also when they were counting. Tristan was well aware of the issue with food for Emery and how that was a huge deal for her. At recess she had a little bit of strawberries and that was all. Tristan assured her that was fine and told her if she was hungry later she could eat more. It was almost lunch time and Emery was worried because she wasn't really hungry at all.
Tristan was called to the office and another teacher was going to supervise the children while they ate. Miss Ando was her name and all the children besides Emery groaned when she walked into the room. Miss Ando was not very nice at all. "Right no talking at all. Take your lunch boxes out and start eating. You won't be playing if you don't eat all your lunch" Miss Ando shouted out to the class glaring at the kids. None of the other kids complained just did as she said.
Emery began to feel sick, she didn't want to eat all her food. Uncle Mike had packed a lot of food just incase she didn't like anything. Emery sat at the lunch table holding her lunch box and water bottle, she didn't feel like eating at all. Miss Ando was walking around the class to make sure the children were eating and when she stopped at Emery she glared at her. "Eat your lunch now" Miss Ando yelled, she didn't like to be ignored. When Emery made no move to do as she was told Miss Ando snatched the lunch box and opened it. "Listen here little girl, you will not be playing until every last thing in that lunch box is eaten. Do not test me on this" Miss Ando yelled before storming off to the other side of the room. Emery couldn't help it, the tears were soon flowing down her little face. She didn't like school and wanted to go back to her shed.
