Finding Emery

When the Quake's pulled up to their home, the doctor was waiting with a nurse who would be staying with Emery. Uncle Mike got out of the car and followed the doctor and nurse into the house. "This is Bentley, he is the nurse who will be with Emery for the next few days. He is also going to help me with the examination" Bass spoke to Michael as he headed upstairs to Emery's bedroom.

Uncle Mike laid Emery on the bed gently and stepped back to allow Bass and Bentley to check his niece. First Bass connected the drip and set that up to hydrate the little girl. Then he and Bentley got to work on checking the little girl for injuries. The rest of the Quake's and Kody were in the room watching.

"Let's start at the top and work our way down. I want to make sure that there are no injuries which are causing Emery's body to react this way. I will also take a blood sample to check for viruses" Bass stated. He was nervous especially with everyone watching every move he made.

Bentley and Bass started at her head and Bass ran over it stating it was fine however Bentley noticed the blood which seemed in be several days old and a lump. "Doctor Bass, I think you need to recheck the patients head" Bentley whispered but everyone in the room heard. "Bentley there is nothing there now keep up" Bass yelled.

Uncle Mike stood noticing that Bass was only quickly skimming over his niece. "Bentley what did you see?" Michael barked out. "He is a nurse and needs to keep his mouth shut. Bentley pack your things your fired" Bass snarled. "Sir, I noticed blood in the little girls hair and there is a lump on her head. Please get another doctor to check her" Bentley stated before going to leave the room.

Kody stepped in front of Bentley while Michael went to check Emery's head. He found the blood in Emery's hair and turned to Bass. "Your nurse is right. You piece of shit" Michael snarled at Bass. He was furious that the doctor not noticing it and then ignoring a nurse that he brought in.

Bass paled, he had made a critical mistake and it could cost his life. Worst still it could endanger his patient. "Bentley can you show me the lump please?" Bass asked cautiously. "It's just near the blood, when did she hurt herself?" Bentley asked. Bass didn't know so looked to Michael who was still glaring at the doctor picturing ways to kill him and then revive him and kill him again for missing this. "We aren't sure" Jasper spoke up seeing no one else would.

"She could be having complications from an untreated concussion" Bentley stated calmly. He knew his job and wasn't going to back down at all. His priority was the patient seeing the doctor clearly wasn't concerned at all. "I don't understand" Kody spoke up looking at Bentley. Bentley nodded his head and then stated, "she is losing consciousness apparently in the last week with no real explanation. She hasn't spoken and isn't eating. This all could be due to a concussion. Behaviour changes, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, headache, confusion are all signs of an untreated concussion" Bentley explained.

Kody and Taz felt horrible, they had just assumed the changs in Emery was due to being sent away. Now there could be a medical reason for it. "It can be treated" Bentley stated seeing the look on the faces of every male in the room. Bass had literally frozen in his spot scared to move let alone speak. "Bass out" Michael barked out causing Bass to run from the room.

"You, treat my niece" Michael barked again. "And which one is her guardian as I won't treat a child without parental consent" Bentley stated. "Her parents are dead, she is in my care now. These two are her brothers and these two are my sons" Michael spat pointing to the boys as he spoke to the nurse. "And who is this?" Bentley asked pointing to Kody. "Her personal guard. Now treat my niece" Michael barked. Bentley nodded his head and began to check Emery's vitals.

After Bentley finished checking Emery he turned to look at Michael. "Right the only injury she has that I can see, is in her head, however this child is severely underweight which means she would be lacking the vitamins and minerals her body uses to help it heal. She needs to have a proper diet. When she wakes I want a nutritious meal ready for her. We can't force her to eat but we will encourage her. Who is she closest to?" Bentley asked.

Uncle Mike was glaring, he would love to say himself but he knew it wasn't. "Kody and Taz have been with her the last week" Uncle Mike mumbled. "Right out of you two who is she closest with?" Bentley asked looking between Kody and Taz. Kody wanted to speak up but valued his life to much. He was the one who was able to get closer to her so far as in he was able to hold Nix but Kody was able to get closer to give Emery her food and drink. "I have been giving her her food this week, Kody can handle her teddy" Taz mumbled.

Bentley nodded, "right you two will be helping me when she wakes? What is her name?" Bentley asked. "Her name is Emery and I will be here the entire time" Michael spat. "That's fine but she needs to trust people and those she trust will be the most help. She is likely to wake dazed and confused" Bentley stated just as Emery began to stir.

"Daddy?" Emery whispered out. She woke up in a funny room with men talking and assumed her daddy had come back for her. The Quake's sucked a breath in, that was the first word they had heard Emery speak in close to a week. "Emery, baby it's uncle Mike. You remember me?" Uncle Mike asked. Emery tried to focus but her brain was foggy. "Don't leave me Tazzy" Emery whispered out remembering uncle Mike had sent her away. She had tears running down her face which uncle Mike decided to wipe away. "Emmy no one is leaving you again. I'm right here, so is Taz and Chase along with Jasper, Seb and Kody. We also have a new friend Emmy. His name is Bentley" uncle Mike explained. Emery couldn't focus at all she felt sick to the tummy.

Bentley noticed Emery get pale. He quickly unhooked the drip and picked her up rushing her to the bathroom where she vomited liquid into the sink. Uncle Mike was right behind him watching what Bentley was doing. "Call doctor Bass we are going to need an anti nausea medication before we move to the next step" Bentley explained.
