Captivation: Want Nothing But You

Chapter 1669

Rachel’s gaze fixated upon the silver-haired gentleman standing before her, and she inquired, “I’m Rachel Bennet.

May I know who you are?”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.

I am the butler, and you may address me as Mason.” His long tenure with the family was apparent in his demeanor—-his every action exuded an air of gentle assertiveness, neither subservient nor overbearing.

Though not a member of the Gibson family, he seemed to possess the family’s grace.

For many years, the house had lain dormant, its inhabitants having moved elsewhere.

In this grand mansion, Mason and a handful of servants remained.

Rachel had gleaned a bit of information about Mason during her research on Alberto.

“Hello, Mason.” Rachel greeted him politely, recalling that Alberto had received a call from Mason when the power was cut off.

She wondered why he had returned at that particular moment.

“May I ask why you have returned at this time? Isn’t your grandchild sick?”

“My grandson is running a fever, so I asked his father to come back and take care of him.

Considering Mr.

Gibson’s recent health condition and the power outage, I was concerned about him and decided to come back and check on him.

Why are you here, Miss Bennet?” Mason asked.

Rachel gave her nose a light tap and declared, “Mr.

Gibson requested me to cook for him.”

Mason paused momentarily, then offered a knowing smile.

“I understand.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

It’s my fault.

Mr.

Gibson asked everyone to go home and rest because he noticed that everyone was under a lot of stress recently, and many of the servants caught a cold.

I was planning to stay, but then I received a call from my grandson’s school, informing me that he was sick.

Mr.

Gibson insisted that I go back as well.”

Mason’s expression grew upset.

“Regardless, I should have left someone here to assist him.”

Rachel examined Mason closely, noting the regret etched on his face.

Despite a few lingering doubts about his explanation, she chose not to voice them.

“It’s fine.

I didn’t mind cooking his meal.”

“We’re indebted to you for your assistance, Miss Bennet.” Mason expressed his gratitude.

“No need for thanks.

Mr.

Gibson has been of help to me as well.

I’m simply repaying the kindness.” Rachel wasn’t particularly fond of formalities, thus she decided to leave.

“Given you’ve returned, I think it’s best I take my leave now.

Mr.

Gibson has a fever and has just taken fever-reducing medication.

He’s currently resting.”

Mason’s expression changed.

“He’s running a fever?”

Rachel saw Mason’s concern but didn’t ponder it further, choosing instead to reassure him.

“Yes, he does, but there’s no need to worry.

The medication should have him feeling better soon.”

Despite her comforting words, Mason’s frown persisted.

His gaze drifted towards the closed door.
