Chapter 1668
“I have your medicine here.
You should take your temperature first.”
Taking the thermometer from the medicine bag, Rachel stepped forward and handed it to him.
Alberto nodded and took the thermometer without a word.
Rachel stood by the bed and examined his appearance.
“Are you feeling better? You don’t look as bad as earlier.”
Alberto looked pale, perhaps it was because of the light, but he didn’t look like he was going to faint.
Alberto didn’t respond.
He placed the thermometer in his armpit and closed his eyes.
Seeing that Alberto might not want to engage in small talk, Rachel didn’t ask further.
She was about to prepare the medicine and water for him when something suddenly occurred to her.
She looked at Alberto again and said, “I didn’t know you like woody scent.”
The man in the bed grew rigid.
Rachel’s gaze lingered on him as she carefully observed his expression.
“I caught a whiff of a woody scent earlier.
I don’t recall you wearing that fragrance before, so it piqued my curiosity.”
Subconsciously, the man’s fingers tightened their hold beneath the quilt.
Rachel’s casual question made him a little nervous.
“But it’s not particularly beneficial to be exposed excessively to such smell, considering it contains musk.” Observing the silence from “Alberto,” Rachel assumed he might not be feeling well and chose not to press the matter further.
“Mr.
Gibson, if you’d like, I have an orange-scented fragrance at home that can help you relax.
How about I bring it to you another day?”
Looking at her intently, the man suppressed a cough before shutting his eyes.
Observing his evident discomfort, Rachel decided not to inquire further and instead focused on assisting him.
She promptly poured a glass of water and offered it to him along with his medicine.
After taking the medicine, he lay down, closed his eyes, and soon fell asleep.
Rachel glanced at the clock.
Nearing ten, she stifled a yawn, musing over whether it was time for her to leave.
Yet, with Alberto still under the weather, it felt improper to leave him unattended.
She dimmed the room’s Lighting, leaving only a small night lamp aglow, then exited the room, gently shutting the door behind her.
As she softly shut the door, the sound of approaching footsteps reached her ears.
Swiftly pivoting around, she found herself face-to face with an elderly gentleman clad in a sleek suit.
“Miss Bennet, I presume?” he inquired, affording her a gentle smile.
He adjusted the frame of his glasses as he examined Rachel.
