times, so I recognized it right

Annoyed, Sam thought, “Did I ask for an explanation? And yet you keep on talking. Stop trying to boast!”

Paul added, “Miranda is always so thoughtful and considerate. She looks out for everyone.”

Sam replied with a stiff smile, “Others always say that you’re a cold and reserved man, Dr. Jefferson, but I see you can talk quite a bit.”

“Whether I talk more or less depends on who I’m talking to. Mr. Cooper, you usually don’t talk much, but you seem unusually chatty today. Since you initiated the conversation, it would be impolite not to reciprocate. Naturally, I can’t leave you hanging.”

Sam was at a loss for words.

“All set, let’s go.” Miranda returned after placing the leftover sandwich in the fridge and washing the cup.

She looked up and saw Paul in front of her. She greeted him with a smile, “Dr. Jefferson, are you home today?”

“Yes.” Paul’s expression softened instantly when he saw her. “Are you heading out with Mr. Cooper?”

“Yes, we’re going to—”

“We should get going,” Sam interrupted as he naturally took the bag from Miranda’s hand. “I can’t leave the car at the alley entrance for too long, or someone will start complaining.”

“Oh, right! Dr. Jefferson, we’ll head out first. See you.”

For the first time, Paul found the word “we” a little irksome. He suppressed his curiosity and replied, “Goodbye.”

On the way, Miranda asked Sam, “When did Grandpa and Grandma come back?”

Although Sam had his eyes on the road, he kept glancing at Miranda out of the corner of his eye. “Last Friday,” he replied.

“Let’s stop by a supermarket on the way. I’d like to get some fruit.‘

“For who?”

“For our grandparents, of course.”

Sam disagreed, “There’s no need for that. Why would you need to bring gifts when you’re going back to meet your own family?”

“That may be, but it’s my first visit. I feel strange showing up empty–handed.”

“It’s nothing. Grandpa and Grandma might actually overthink if you did bring gifts. They’d feel like you’re not treating them as family.”

“Is that so?”

“Trust me.”

“Alright then,” Miranda conceded.

The Garrison estate had a long history. It was much larger than Miranda expected, and the building was located near the back lake.

Unlike the popular Arupian style, the Garrison estate leaned into a more minimalist aesthetic. The style was understated yet clearly rich with heritage.

However, it also wasn’t a formal, traditional courtyard design like Sebastian’s home. Instead, the Garrison estate incorporated minimalist elements in a modern architectural design that cost much more than a typical Arupian–style villa. Moreover, the estate was just newly renovated last year.

There were two pine trees transplanted at the entrance. They were reportedly worth around seven figures.

As soon as Miranda stepped inside, Fiona greeted her with a warm smile. “Mimi, you’re here! Come in quickly…”

It was obvious she had been standing near the entrance and waiting for her. Otherwise, her reaction wouldn’t have been so quick.

“Grandpa, Grandma,” Miranda greeted them politely.

Fiona led her to the living room. “Take a seat. Here’s some fruits you like. Try some, they are all freshly washed.”

Thank you, Grandma.”

Meanwhile, Area wasn’t idle either. He brought over a cup of tea.

“Was the trip tiring?” he asked. “Have some water… Oh, wait. You young people aren’t fond of tea, right? We have soda, orange juice, and fresh milk. What would you like?”

Miranda pointed to the cup in his hand. “I’ll have the tea.”

Aren’s eyes lit up. “Mimi, do you enjoy having tea?”

“Yes.”

“This tea is brewed with fresh tea leaves that I just airlifted in last week. What perfect timing. You can help me taste it.”

“Sure.”

Fiona got up and said, “I’ll check on the kitchen. Dinner should be ready soon. We can dig in after I prepare two more dishes you love, the BBQ pork ribs and meatloaf.”

During her stay in Lumberville, Fiona had already learned her granddaughter’s favorite dishes from Mindy.

“Is it too much work for you, Grandma? Don’t overexert yourself,” Miranda said with

concern.

Fiona’s heart was filled with warmth. She couldn’t help but be moved by Miranda’s concern. “Not at all! I love cooking for you.”

Sam stood nearby, at a loss for words. In his memory, Fiona hadn’t personally cooked in the kitchen for a long time.

For elite families like theirs, cooking wasn’t a necessity but an activity of leisure and something to pass the time if they were in the mood.

Ever since Minnie went missing, Fiona had never been in a good mood. Every morning, she would wake up missing her daughter, lost in thought, or crying over photos. She had lost all desire to be in the kitchen.

However, things were different now.

After they found Mindy, Fiona was like a withering tree that had come back to life and flourished after a much–needed rain shower.

Miranda gradually relaxed with the warmth of her grandparents.

Sam wasn’t surprised in the slightest. Miranda had always been lovable. Now that she was revealed to be the elderly couple’s biological granddaughter, they naturally wanted to dote on her as much as possible. They cherished her immensely like the apple of their eyes.

Fiona hadn’t cooked in years. After her daughter’s disappearance, she had completely lost interest in cooking.

Worried that her skills might be rusty, Fiona even practiced her cooking for the past two days to revive her touch from years ago. This was all to make sure her granddaughter could enjoy the best meal.

Fiona went to the kitchen to cook while Miranda stayed in the living room with Aren, chatting over some tea.

They were talking about Mindy’s past before her disappearance. Aren couldn’t help but sigh when he looked at Miranda. “Looking at you now, you really do resemble your mother when she was young. How did we not recognize it back then?”

Miranda asked curiously, “My mother? When she was young?”

Aren chuckled, lost in his memories. “Your mother has been adorable, beautiful, and kind since childhood. She was the most lovable child but also the most troublesome.”
