Two Alphas, One Mate

Chapter The King is Dead

Damian

Time was going in slow motion.

The plunger slowly pushing into her neck by Aaron’s finger.

The tears falling down her face as she watched me hold myself back in fear.

Then, in a split second, it was Adam lunging forward to stop Aaron.

As for me, I was frozen. I was too late to call Adam off, and by the time he lunged forward, one of his own men who also occupied the room shot him straight in the chest.

Before I could even call out his name his body already hit the floor. There was no blood, but I could hear him struggling to breathe. We were wearing armour, but silver at close range could penetrate into our skin.

Diana’s eyes lit up as she watched her brother's body twitch for life on the floor.

“Adam!!” She struggled more in his arms but was too afraid of the syringe still protruding from her neck.

My jaw clenched tightly together, “YOU TRAITOROUS BASTARD! YOUR WORSE THAN A ROUGE, YOU’RE A FILTHY RAT!” My hands were shaking as I tried my best to contain my beast who was ready to kill every single person in the vicinity. I thought coming into this I would be aiming my sights on Holden, but it seems Aria and Aaron beat me to it.

“I’m telling you these transitions can get a little messy.” Aria smirked as she ran her hand through Holden’s hair. It was eerie watching her play with his tousled hair as his body laid cold on the patient bed.

“Why did you do this?!” I clenched my fists tighter and took a small step towards Aaron.

The scent of Diana was driving me crazy. She was standing six feet away and I couldn’t do a damn thing about it. My mind was on fire, my body trembled, but my hope to save her was still with me.

“You think me, and the surviving pack members want to follow Adam to our deaths, and for what? Revenge? Trying to take back his sister that is already mated to another Alpha? Our pack was in shambles after his father denied Holden, and he paid a terrible price. We all did that day. We all needed a fresh start and I kept telling Adam that, but revenge consumed his mind. He cared more about revenge then his own fucking pack, so me and a few others are taking a stand. This was long overdue Damian. It just took a few alliances to make it happen.” Aaron glanced over to Aria who was flirtatiously twirling her finger in her hair.

“You naïve boy. She would never give you a second look if she couldn’t use you. Are you that dumb? Are you that power hungry that you would throw away everything you stand for?!”

I was practically shouting at the top of my lungs, making the warriors surrounding us uneasy. They looked like they were the stragglers from Adam’s pack, following Aaron blindly as their new Alpha. I’m sure the ones who disagreed with Aaron was among the pile of dead bodies we found in the other room.

“Are you sad that you couldn’t kill your brother instead of me Damian?” Aria strutted forward towards me, and I immediately tensed up. My teeth were jamming hard into my mouth to the point where I could taste my own blood.

“Don’t fucking get close to me, I can’t guarantee that I won’t kill you bitch,” I growled.

“Feisty, just like Holden. It’s too bad you’re in love.” Aria smiled to Aaron who began pushing on the syringe once again.

“NOO!” I raised my hands in the air, “DON’T DO IT…” I sighed heavily, “What do you want?” It pained me to ask. It fucking pained me so hard to not kill them, but I had to do it for her, no matter the cost.

“Your brother and your head will be a symbol of our new power,” Aaron replied.

Aria stepped towards Diana and smiled, “I know, it’s the unfortunate truth to the werewolf world. A symbol of power is the death of another Alpha, don’t you think Di?” She turned her head slowly towards me and continued to deviously smile, “And how will the world look at Alpha Aaron and Luna Aria if they had the heads of the two most powerful Alphas on our fireplace mantel?”

Aaron’s face deepened as he narrowed his eyes to me.

“Don’t do this Aaron, this isn’t you! This was never you!” Diana pleaded.

“You teasing bitch. You had your chance and look where that got you.”

“Genocide of entire packs isn’t leading. Just let it go Aaron, please, how many more have to die?”

Just as Diana finished speaking, he tightened his grip around her neck and pulled her in. My heart started to pound, my adrenaline was surging, but I kept my hands up to not make any sudden movements.

He leaned into her ear and breathed in heavily, “Only one more has to die.” His cold dark eyes shot up to me once again.

“So what will it be Damian? The mother of your children and unborn babies, OR YOU?” Aria pulled back Diana’s hair so her face could be in full view.

I was dying inside as I watched them touch my Di. I was powerless, and now, I was convinced I only had one option.

I brought my hands up in surrender and looked to Diana. “Ok, you can have me....”

“NO!” Diana screamed.

I swallowed hard and looked to Aria, “Let her go, YOU CAN HAVE ME.”

“Ah, ah, ah,” Aria smirked, “We need assurance you won’t do anything hastily. A mere silver bullet might not be enough to kill you. ON YOUR KNEES ALPHA DAMIAN.”

I clenched my teeth hard together, but didn’t reply, instead I kept my eyes on Diana. “What ever it takes Di, I’m sorry.”

For the first time in my life, I felt my legs buckle on my own accord. I was bending over as I watched Diana cry mercilessly.

“Don’t do this! There is another way!” She cried back and started to struggle in Aaron’s arms.

“Don’t fight them, your too weak. You need to be strong for our babies.” It was so hard to tell her to stop trying because she was the strongest woman I knew, but in this moment, it was the only way to save her and the babies. The pregnancy had her at her weakest and there was no way she could take them all on.

“Here,” Aria put her hand out with an orange capped syringe filled with a clear liquid. “To ease the pain of your pathetic end.”

I let out a low growl and took the syringe from her hand.

“DON’T FUCKING DO IT! DON’T LEAVE ME DAMIAN! I CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!!”Diana kept on screaming, but I didn’t look back to her.

It was too hard.

“Ah, just in time to witness the spectacle. How’s it going Red?” Aria’s attention went to the doorway, where Loki was standing wide eyed to Diana, then me, on my knees in front of Aria.

Loki barred his teeth and hunched forward. “What the hell is going on!?”

“STAND DOWN LOKI.” I put my hand out to him, but it didn’t prevent him from entering the room.

He immediately backed away as he got view of Diana’s situation.

“Let Loki take her out of here.” I looked back to Loki then to Aria.

“Alpha Aaron, what do you think?” She smiled to Aaron, who kept his head close to Diana’s neck, inhaling her scent like a fucking pervert that he was.

“If they think living as rogues after their Alpha dies is a good life, I suppose giving them mercy is the least I can do as the new Alpha.”

“You're going to fucking die,” Loki snapped back.

“Better watch that tone sexy.” Aria tilted her head as her eyes trailed Loki up and down.

“Crazy bitch.”

“Maybe Damian will be a better sport then?” Aria leaned down towards me and whispered softly in my ear, “Inject yourself sweetie, and we’ll give Diana to Red, or Loki...Or whatever you like to call him, I pinkie swear.”

I kept my eyes on the plastic syringe in my hand, contemplating my choices, and it didn’t take long to make the decision.

I gripped it tightly in the palm of my hand and looked back to her. “Deal.”

“ARE YOU INSANE DAMIAN?!” Loki roared.

“NO, NO, NO!” Diana started to struggle more now, but Aaron held her too tightly against his body.

“I love you.” I looked up at Diana’s swollen face. Her eyes were so red that it completely devoured the whites of her eyes.

I placed the syringe down on the floor and began unzipping my armour. It was three layers of fabric, and by the time I had my undershirt off, I was topless.

I threw my garments to the side and picked up the syringe.

“What is this?” I continued looking into the contents. The smell, the colour, and the texture were unfamiliar.

“Enough to kill you,” Aria smirked.

I didn’t bother to look up to Diana again because I needed to get this over with fast enough that they could escape. It was only a matter of time until reinforcements came.

I took a deep breath in, then I quickly rammed the syringe in my bicep, hoping this was the best muscle to slow the absorption into my body. I was hoping that Diana could escape, and I could kill them before the drugs took effect.

“Damian!!” Diana screamed out again, but I continued the injection. I pushed onto the plunger, and at first, I couldn’t feel anything, but as soon as the entire contents entered my body, it left a stinging sensation that began swimming through my entire arm, then, my entire body felt like it was on fire.

I yelled in agony as my body began pulsating.

I was still on my knees, but as soon as the intensity of the burning took effect, my hands collapsed to the ground, and I was on all fours.

Whatever drugs that I injected myself with was working faster then I expected.

It took a moment to recompose myself and look up to Diana. She was the last person I wanted to see before I died.

My throat was tightening up, my eyes were beginning to burn, but I kept my head up for as long as I could.

“Let her go now…” I began coughing blood.

I looked to Loki who was already pacing towards them. Aria nodded her head and Aaron released her into Loki’s arms.

The room was beginning to fade out, and the lump in my throat was growing in size, making it hard to breathe. My body wanted to cough it out, but nothing was helping.

Diana’s screams and pleads faded out into the background.

“Take her… Loki…There’s no time…” My arms gave way and I collapsed on the ground. I turned to my back to see the shadows in the room, watching me closely die and fade away from reality. My throat was too tight to talk now, and my eyes were shuttering close.

This was it. I thought the end would be quick, but this process seemed like it was lasting an eternity.

My chest was slowing down.

My arms were no longer working.

Then, I heard the eerie words echo through my head one last time before completely succumbing to the drugs.

“The king is dead.”
