Chapter 239
Blair

doing" I teased her as she swatted playfully at me.
I glanced across at Braedon holding darling Senna who was giggling in his arms. She looked darling in a little dress, her arms spread out wide as she pretended to be a little ballerina, while our son, Jaxon, held up his arms, ready for his turn to be picked up. My heart melted. Sierra joined me, a satisfied smile on her lips. Her hair was disheveled, her lips puffy and her dress slightly creased. I raised a brow, watching her blush slightly. "Tobias might have warned you that you needed to ahem" I coughed "Tidy up a little more. It's easy to see what the two of you have been Sierra had met her mate at another pack while visiting and establishing the domestic violence shelters that we had spoken about. It was hers and Josie's project and she'd done an excellent job forming a huge network of available resources, not to mention relationships with various Alpha all willing to take in those who needed to seek sanctuary in a new pack away from their old ones. So far the project was going well and they had already managed to start moving people. Those that were guilty of harming their mates, were punished swiftly, Braedon giving the Alpha's the power to punish them in his stead with a law decreeing it. No Alpha had protested and in fact many of them wholeheartedly agreed with it.
"Like you and Braedon can talk" Sierra protested, as she watched my mate with the children and then glancing at me smugly "You two still act as though you're in the honeymoon stage" she complained.
I grinned and then shrugged unapologetically. Tobias joined us. He was a large brutish brutish-looking man, but he had a heart of gold and was a teddy bear underneath his gruff exterior. Stop reading the wrong and incomplete storyline, job n ib.com has the correct and complete book.He rubbed his beard and then kissed Sierra hard on the lips, causing her to blush bright red all over again. I giggled. Tobias grinned "Have I told you lately how beautiful you are?" he asked her chuckling. "Tobias" Sierra hissed, causing her mate to raise a brow "Have you forgotten where we are?" she added, glancing around uncomfortably.
Josie came up behind us, a serene expression on her face. "Oh come on Sierra, it's obvious what you two have been doing" she quipped "Just look at your dress" she added, gesturing to Sierra's clothes as I giggled, tears coming to my eyes, while Sierra looked thoroughly put out. "Josie" Sierra hissed with her eyes flashing in warning.
Josie rolled her eyes "Since when do you get so uptight about s*x?" she asked bluntly.
Tobias smirked. Sierra flushed and bit her lip. It was unreal how different things were these days. It was like Sierra had changed personalities with Josie sometimes. Josie had really come into her own once she started helping with creating domestic shelters across the country. She was more confident in herself and less likely to take anyone's abuse. I approved of it. Even though she was different sometimes, she was still Josie underneath it all.
"Blair," Josie said sweetly, as Sierra harrumphed at her "There's something I need to discuss with you" she added.
"Of course? Privately or?" I asked in an aside.
"Well the thing is" she began with a sarcastic tone "the security system that's in place in the nursery has captured an intruder and I need you or Sierra to please disarm the system," she said with a sigh "Sarah's going a bit nuts at the moment and I don't really blame her, to be honest." "Sarah?" I asked confused "Why is Sarah upset?"
Josie flipped her hair over her shoulder "Well Michael went inside the nursery before she could stop him" she admitted "and the doors locked. So..."
My eyes widened in horror "So he's stuck in there while she's outside the room" I finished in dread.
Sierra looked pale "I'll go up," she said hastily, turning and racing inside the pack house and no doubt up the stairs as I shook my head and fought back my grin.
Braedon had joined us by now. "I knew that alarm was going to be trouble," he said with a wry grin "At least Sarah can yell at Sierra when she gets up there" he added, leaning over and kissing me on the lips "Better her than me" he added with a chuckle.
"I'd go help her but to be honest Sarah scares me" Tobias admits in a low tone of voice, sounding sheepish.
I laughed "Well I can't blame her this time for being angry. Luckily there's nothing in the nursery he should be able to get into, but maybe we should reconsider the alarm now the kids are a little older" I said shrewdly, taking Senna into my arms and holding her tightly. "You mean now they are walking and exploring," Braedon said with a crooked grin.
"Getting into trouble and mischief" I added, my lips curving "Causing all kinds of problems for poor Josie," I said with with a chuckle as Josie giggled.
"I don't mind, your children are adorable," she said, tickling Jaxon under his chin as Braedon held him.
"But yours is going to be just as cute," I told her warmly, eyeing her baby bump beneath her flowy shirt.
She put a protective hand on her stomach, beaming. She was not far off giving birth herself and couldn't wait. I was happy for her. This time the pregnancy had gone smoothly and there were no complications. She had been a little nervous in the beginning which was understandable, but now she was ready and more than a little prepared to meet her little girl. Josie was going to make a great mother. I had no doubts about that. She was so great with children.
Aaron, Josie's partner quietly joined us. I gave him a gentle smile. Aaron was one of the first domestic violence victims that Josie and Sierra had helped. He was a large man, with heavily muscled arms and broad shoulders, but he was the most gentle and kind man you could ever meet. A lot of people underestimate how many men are abused by female partners and it came as a bit of a shock to Josie and Sierra when Aaron had come seeking help. His partner, Laura, his first mate, was not only emotionally abusive but also physically. He could have easily overpowered her, but he was not the kind to put a hand against a woman, having it drilled into his head that a man never hits a woman or lays a hand on her. Aaron had put up with Laura's abuse for years. Silently. He felt ashamed that he was being hurt by his partner and he never reached out for help, never let his Alpha or Beta know about the situation. He was embarrassed. He thought he was doing something wrong or that he deserved the abuse, like so many other victims. He was prepared to put up with it merely for the sake of their mate bond. Usually, a mate bond would not allow mates to hurt each other, but as with humans there are always bad ones in the mix and sometimes the wolf is unable to prevent the human side from coming through. Laura was nasty, through and through. Aaron had only sought help once Laura had beat him so severely that she almost killed him. All because he had failed to cook her dinner on time. A pitiful reason for hurting another human being, or shifter. But then, most abusers don't need a reason, they just look for an excuse to hurt another person. Sometimes people are so ashamed that they never seek help and I wonder sometimes how many shifters have died because they have been too afraid or too ashamed to speak out about the abuse. Even one is too many.
It had taken Josie months of secret meetings with Aaron, extensive counseling, and even the promise of relocation before Aaron would even agree to fully go into the program she'd started. It took a long time to convince him to reject Laura, for the benefit of his own good. Once the mate bond had dissolved, he was shocked to discover that Josie was his second-chance mate. Josie had worked hard to overcome his fears of being abused again and although there were still times that Aaron would flinch or shake when she spoke a little louder than usual or made any sudden movements, he was getting better and with her love, he was starting to really flourish.
Laura had not been pleased to have been rejected and had gone searching for Josie, almost killing her until Sierra had been forced to intervene, along with Aaron's alpha. She was now dead, which gave Aaron
closure and ensured that he would never have to worry about her seeking him out again. He could finally begin to heal.
