The Rebellious Omega

Chapter 192

Blair POV

Josie giggled at Sierra's antics while one of the pack members handed me a gift to unwrap. Her name was Sadie. "I hope this is of use to you Luna Queen," she said softly.

"Thank you so much, Sadie," I said, smiling brightly as I unwrapped the gift, to find a bunch of adorable onesies that made Sarah and Josie exclaim and fawn over them with smiles on their faces. "They're beautiful" I added, watching the woman's face shine with happiness. I had never had so much fun. I unwrapped present after present, the living room quickly becoming covered in gift wrapping, stacked up presents and cards. I thanked each pack member profusely, making the women smile with happiness and joy. Josies present to me was a handmade baby mobile to attach to the crib, with knitted woodland creatures that were so unique and lovingly created I couldn't help but gush over it. Sarah handed me hers and I opened it to find that she had framed an ultrasound picture of the baby for me. I was touched at the sentimentality of the gift. "Thank you" I whispered hoarsely, hugging her.

Sierra's gift was next. She handed me a small box, her eyes sparkling. I began to tear the paper off of it and then stared down at the present before peals of laughter escaped me and tears began to trickle down my cheeks. Sarah and Josie doubled over, giggling while the pack members looked highly amused. Trust Sierra to give me such a gift. I should have expected this from her. It was a massive box of condoms. "You're going to want those once the baby is born" Sierra protested vehemently "Trust me. That's even if you want Braedon near you after giving birth" she added with a grin.

I shook my head at her. "Thank you," I said still laughing "it was very um thoughtful of you."

Sierra saluted me with her beer bottle smirking. Josie cracked a grin "Are you sure you don't want to keep those?" she asked teasingly "What happens if you find someone to sleep with..." she trailed off.

"I've got plenty, a woman has to be prepared" Sierra quipped, causing the room to dissolve into laughter.

We played a few games. One was particularly gross, smelling diapers and trying to guess which chocolate Josie and Sarah had melted in it. Sierra struggled with this one, at one stage dry heaving "I can't do it" she said, passing on the diaper with a dramatic shudder "It looks too much like the real thing" she complained.

Josie cackled at her, causing Sierra to laugh and elbow her. The hour grew later and the pack members began to disperse, needing to get home to their husbands and children or get sleep ready for work the next morning. Eventually, it was just myself, Sarah, Josie, and Sierra left. I looked around at my friends with gratitude "Thank you for this" I said, "I really needed it."

"Course babes, it was all my idea," Sierra said as Josie and Sarah glared at her indignantly.

I chuckled and leaned back in the chair, feeling drowsy and content. "Next time it's your turn, Sarah," Josie said.

"Yes" I added "we'll have to make sure to do one for you as well."

Suddenly I felt a crippling pain in my midsection. I bent over, clutching it, gasping for breath. Sierra rushed over concerned. "Is it the baby?" she asked and I dimly heard a cell phone ringing in the distance, before I heard Sarah answering it.

The pain turned into a niggling one and then it was gone. I was confused. It felt like it wasn't my pain. Suddenly a sense of foreboding came over me. I could feel myself beginning to panic. I hoped I was wrong. That I was imagining things. But Sarah's face was slowly turning white and she was gripping her phone so tightly that her knuckles were turning white as well.

"It's not the baby" I moaned as she helped me to stand upright again and then I glanced sharply at Sarah.

"What is it? What's wrong? It's Braedon isn't it?" I begged as she stared at me, the cell phone slipping from her fingers.

I heard the sound of the dial tone. She struggled to find the words to say, her eyes meeting mine, filled with tears.

"Just say it" I screamed, losing my composure as Josie put her arm around Sarah's shoulders, my terror increasing as I felt the niggling pain start-up in my midsection again "Tell me what's wrong" I yelled.

"Blair, I'm so sorry" she whispered, her body trembling.

Sierra's face was grave. She held me up with her hands, or else I might have sunk to my knees in despair. He couldn't be gone. I would have felt the mate bond sever. But my wolf was whimpering softly in my mind, already beginning to mourn our mate.

"It's Braedon" Sarah choked out, "James just called. He" She shook herhead, struggling to find the words, while I stared at her mutely, my own body beginning to shake.

"Tell me. God, please just tell me" I pleaded, putting a hand to my mouth.

"He was injured. Badly" Sarah said in a shaky voice "Taking down the Alpha of a pack, when he was surrounded by rogues who took advantage of the situation. He fought off more than twelve," she said, meeting my eyes "but they almost killed him. They've taken him to the hospital, but..." she trailed off.

"He's not dead," I said with hope in my voice "You just said so, he's not dead."

Sarah looked at me with sympathy while Sierra bowed her head "No Blair he's not dead, but James isn't sure he's going to make it" she said quietly "That's why he called."

"He'll make it, he's an Alpha King, "I said refusing to believe otherwise.

Sarah let out a small sob "Being an Alpha King doesn't make you invincible. Blair, sweetheart, I'm sorry, but there's a chance you might want to go and say goodbye" she whispered, tears trailing down her cheeks "before it's too late. James has already sent a car. It should be here any minute. He wants the two of us to come. I need to see my brother and you, you need to see your mate before it's too late."

She began to cry as Josie held her while I blinked back my tears, refusing to let them fall. "He'll make it," I said stubbornly as Sarah wept "he won't leave me or our pup. I won't let him."
