The Princess’s Broken Alpha

Chapter 34

He woke up to an incredible warmth and a soft body in top of his. He noticed the silky brown hair and he couldn't believe it. She was curled up on top of him asleep. He released a tiny breath. She didn't run for the hills, she had actually stayed. He'd thought he'd wake up to find her gone or ready to reject him immediately. But here she was. Zion's heart ached. Every day he was falling in love with her more and more. This scared him. That out of anything he needed in his life he needed her the most. He tried not to move too much just so he could watch her sleep. A protective urge soared through him to have her like this forever in his arms, completely his. His wolf badly wanted to mark her. It was surreal how hard he had to be fighting not to claim her. He felt content and it felt natural having her wrapped up on top of him. This was everything. There was a small scar on her temple that was so faint if you weren't up close you wouldn't see it. He wondered what had given her that scar and lightly traced his finger over it.

Her face looked so serene and peaceful. He remembered how terrified she looked before he passed out. What did he ever do to deserve her? Caressing her face, her lips slightly parted. She was his and full of life, caring, smart and a bright light. Her eyes fluttered open and she immediately tilted her head up to see him watching her. His eyes were shining with emotions and she faintly smiled at him.

"So this is what I have to do to get you to talk to me" he let out gruffly.

Kiarra quickly shifted on his chest to look him over with her lips parted before letting out a sigh of relief that he seemed for the most part fine. His body temperature felt normal.

Her hands ran over his hair down to his face and she felt the familiar tingles. She enjoyed running her finger tips across his light beard.

"I'm fine" his deep voice tried to assure her despite the worry in her eyes.

"How do you feel? Are you okay?"

"Anastasia, I'm fine." he told her continuing to caress her face. She shuffled up more on top of him wrapping her legs around him so she could settle further up. God it felt good. She'd been so worried that she had listened to his heartbeat the entire time not knowing when she'd fallen asleep. She stared into his forest green eyes that were always driving her crazy.

"I thought I'd wake up and you'd be gone" he traced his fingers lightly under her eyes and she loved the feeling of his large hands on her. She wanted to say it was the other way around but instead she lightly grazed her fingertips over his chest and felt him react to her. She loved that she had that effect on him.

"Why?" she asked him

"I thought seeing me like this would've scared you away."

She smiled at how unguarded he was being with her despite how intimidating he might seem to others.

She slowly shook her head not breaking eye contact with him.

"No and you're a fool if you thought otherwise." she softly told him and his green eyes twinkled.

She figured this was the best time to ask and get it out of the way. Kiara was curious but hesitant to ask about what had happened to his legs. She didn't quite know how to approach it or how he would feel about it.

"Zion what happened to your legs?" she asked hesitantly.

He had wondered when the question was coming and was actually surprised she didn't ask earlier on from the get go. He shifted a bit so he could run his hands through her brown hair.

"I was born fully functioning with everything working alright." his voice was deep and husky and she loved the way his chest vibrated beneath her as she listened. "When I was around eight that's when it all started happening. I started to lose feeling in my legs. It started out small at first. I would trip a lot until I could barely stand up. After a while all function was gone. To be honest I can barely even remember what it was like walking and having legs. It feels like I've been like this my entire life. My parents carried me to countless pack hospitals and doctors but there was nothing they could do. No one had never seen this before. Everybody knows werewolves don't get sick. Injured yes but not sick."

Kiarra straightened up. She was puzzled as well.

"I don't think there was a doctor I didn't visit. It was exhausting. I would dread seeing another lab coat or going through countless tests. Not to mention my father still had his alpha duties and I had two younger brothers who were small at the time as well. It was a bit hectic.

I spent most of those younger years in hospitals. There was no explanation and nothing that could be done. I just couldn't use my legs. Then to top it off it also came with these episodes and handling the pain when I was younger was hell. Though over the years they have decreased drastically."

He paused as if he was reliving it and then his green eyes focused on her but he seemed far away.

"It did hit my parents hard, especially my dad. How do you explain to parents that their child that was born healthy and fine now couldn't walk without any explanation. They were emotionally exhausted as well. Everything was made significantly worse because we're werewolves and werewolves in wheelchairs are rare. Our legs are an integral part of us, running and everything. My parents were of course worried that I wouldn't be able to cope in their world with the discrimination and everything that came with it. I would always be a spectacle, an outcast and they were scared of what could happen to me."

"So what happened then"

"Well my father said there's a first time for everything. I would learn to adapt and if I was strong enough I'd be fine. Parents were terrified and didn't want their children to hang out with me because they weren't sure what exactly was wrong with me that made me this way." "That's messed up" she shook her head.

He smiled at her protectiveness.

"The good thing was that I had two other brothers and we were close in age so I had friends to forever play and hang out with. It wasn't that bad after a while. It started to affect me when I felt like a burden to them, a third wheel but they never left me out. It took a long while before people got used to me being in a wheelchair."

Kiarra was taking in all the information and how his voice sounded rich and powerful. She could listen to him forever.

"So how did you become Alpha?"

She had a lot of questions and he couldn't blame her.

"My father is alpha and I being the first born was destined to be alpha as well. Clearly it was a position I deferred to Daniel because why would I need any more attention and stress on me than I already have. Still being the first born though in a wheelchair I was naturally stronger. Not all but most people gravitated to me more than Daniel to be the next Alpha and when it was time to for him to take the position "

"They wanted you instead." she finished for him "Didn't Daniel feel some type of way?"

"No, he never really wanted it. I think he has matured more now though but he was relieved. I thought what else do I have to lose plus my father thought I was the better fit. Nobody wanted to challenge it because Samuel does the fights. Some of them did grumble and throw a fit against me taking the post. Some still don't like it but they keep quiet because the majority voted plus everything has been going smoothly ever since."

She smiled at their brotherly bond and how they stood by each other no matter what.
