The Palace Beast

Chapter 75 - Anubis’ Deal

*** KINGDOM OF MAXIS ***

Through Princess Bonnie's chamber window, the chilly night howled. She was dozing off on her bed. She had returned from seeing Andrew's burial. She was so exhausted that she lacked the willpower to take off her regal robe. She could hear her name over and over while she slept. It appeared as though she was dreaming. Still, her name was being called. She turned to face the opposite side of the bed and went back to sleep.

Not quite long, she felt a touch, as if someone was tapping her to wake up. She reluctantly opened her eyes and rolled over to the previous position. She was tapped again followed by a gentle call of her name. "Bonnie."

At this time she knew this wasn't a dream but a reality. She swiftly turned and behold who stood at the edge of her bed was a figure of a man with the head of a jackal bearing a staff known as seem scepter. She screamed, "Ahhh," and then quickly got up from the bed as she fearfully leaned on the wall while standing on her bed. "Please don't kill me," she cried out with her eyes closed.

"I am not here to hurt you. My name is Anubis and I am the Egyptian god of the afterlife."

Anubis approaches Bonnie but Bonnie jumped down from the bed and headed straight to the door. As she opened the door to flee from Anubis' presence, Anubis slammed shut the door with a wave of his staff.

Bonnie was in a bad situation at these moments as she leans back on the slammed door shivering. "What do you want from me?" she cried out.

"You have something that belongs to me and I am here to get it back."

"I don't know what you are talking about."

Anubis walked up to Bonnie where she was standing. He brought his face close to hers and then looked intently into her eyes and whispered to her. "I know you know exactly what I am talking about. I can feel the presence of my book here, in your chamber. I'm not here to hurt you, just hand over my lost book to me and I will be on my way."

In as much as Bonnie wanted to be in possession of the lost book of Anubis, she never wanted to incur the wrath of Anubis. She pointed to her cabinet and then said in a tiny voice, "Your book is there."

"Wise decision." Anubis quickly makes his way to the cabinet. "I am also here for your help." Anubis switched his focus on Bonnie after getting the book from the cabinet.

Walking back to where Bonnie is, he said to her, "Will you help me and my fellow Egyptian gods?"

"In what way?" Bonnie inquired.

This is new to her. A god asking for her help. Does such a thing ever happen? Are gods not the ones to be helping humans and not otherwise. She fixes her focus on Anubis yet she was still terrified from the look on her face. She has encountered a demon prince offering to help her for a price and now a god is requesting her help.

"If the gods and goddess of Egypt do not stop the god of war and chaos, Set, there will be a great war between the Egyptian gods and Grecian gods. Set is reluctantly heading to trigger a massive war and we need to stop him but not without your help. We can't cross over to the underworld the realm of Hades and Persephone without help from Greece. We need your help."

On hearing this, Bonnie was relieved of her fear as she leans forward. She now spoke with boldness. "If I will help you, you have to do something for me in return."

"And what will that be?"

"The underworld you mentioned, my father's soul the late king was forcefully dragged there from the land of the dead. If you can get him out of there and send him to a better place, you got yourself a deal with me."

"As the Egyptian god of the afterlife, I have no jurisdiction in the underworld. Anything I try to do there will result in chaos amongst the Egyptian and Grecian gods."

"Then I can't help you. Find another person." The princess makes her way back to her bed.

If a demon prince could help her with something attached to it, it's time to help a god with something attached to it. King Afa has told her of their endless chase by Persephone and Thanatos, she knows that the underworld could be more agonizing and horrific. She doesn't want her father's soul to pass eternity in torment.

Switching his staff over to the right hand, Anubis approaches Bonnie's bed. "Fine, I will do something about it, but now we need to get to the underworld."

"How will I know you will fulfill your own end of the deal?"

"Anubis is a god of integrity. The words I have spoken to you are binding."

The easiest way for an Egyptian god to cross into the realm of the Grecian gods uninvited is having the blood of a female royalty dipped into the red sea. Then, a pathway can be opened. In Set's case, it was not so as he was invited by Hades himself.

"What exactly do I've to do for me to help?"

"I will need to get your blood."

"That's a joke right?"

"No, Anubis doesn't joke. Without your blood, we can't cross to the realm of Hades, and neither can I be able to help your father and rescue him from the underworld."
