The Palace Beast

Chapter 131 - King’s Request

"Lord King!" The king's general approached. After taking a bow before the king, he slowly raised his head. "He's here, my Lord King." "Bring him in."

King Edward II heard about the victory of John Willie and how he repelled the gods and slew half a thousand of them in other to protect Maxis. He immediately sent word to Queen Bonnie a week ago demanding an audience with John. He is marveled at what type of man can possess such powers. Even his sorcerers with their power put together can't be equated with the power he has heard John possesses. The war between the warlocks and the gods has caused great havoc for the mortals that many creatures seized the opportunity in attacking and enslaving the mortals. The king vowed to protect his land and the people in it from the scavenging creatures that have refused to let them be in one peace. "Greetings your majesty."

John has never been in front of this king before but he is certain that he has to bow before the king as an act of reverence for the king. He slowly bowed and then cast his gaze on the king in expectation of what the king had to say. When he heard of the king's summon, he wanted to use his 'Orbing' ability he discovered to get to the king's palace but Queen Bonnieadvised him not to, instead he should ride with the king's messengers back to the King's Palace. After his encounter with the old man, the old man revealed to him how to use his 'Orbing which is far better than disappearing and appearing in a location that can impose some magical threats on the person. 'Orbing' is the power to teleport to another location through the use of powerful magical orbs. This power is possessed by the Elders. However, Neena stole the orbing powers from a goblin to attack the Elders in the second heaven. When someone orbs, they turn into a swarm of blue and white orbs that rise upwards or sink downwards, depending on the direction the being is going. However, certain goblins orb in a swirling manner without rising or descending. As protection from evil, Orbing is one of four teleportation powers being able to reach the Heavens.

The king rises from his throne and makes his way to John. Standing before John, the king stares at him. "I have heard of your conquest. What manner of man are you that the gods fled from your presence?"

"I'm just a man like you, your majesty." John slightly raised his head down to avoid eye contact with the king.

"For your sake Maxis is safe and I know it will be safe if you remain there to assist King Bonnie."

"Of course."

"Right now I need your help to keep my people safe."

"How may I be of service to, your majesty?"

"Please walk with me."

The king then leads John out from the throne hall with his general walking right after John. They walk straight to the king's garden and then from the garden they entered the courtyard. John caught a glimpse of bloodstain on the walls of the courtyard. They were lots of them as if the wall was painted in blood. He couldn't help but ask, "Your majesty, what happened here?" "The werewolves have been attacking us killing our children, men, and women. No one is safe. This is why I need your help."

"What will you have me do your majesty?"

"The werewolves have taken over the southern kingdom and I want it back. They enslaved everyone and force them into hard labor. If you can do this for me, I will greatly reward you."

"Forgive me my king, but rumors are being spread that some of our enslaved people have been turned into werewolves. They don't know who we are or who our king is. The allegiance is to the werewolf alpha," said the general.

The king switches his attention on John. "Please, my son-in-law is the Lord of the southern part of my kingdom and I believe he didn't escape during the werewolves' invasion. Save the southern kingdom and bring my son-in-law back to me." King Edward II married his first daughter to a wealthy Noble known as Lord Elioth for saving his life when the Orcs first attacked. He handed over the southern kingdom and allowed the Noble to oversee the affairs.

"Your majesty, I understand how you feel but if your general said the werewolves are turning people into werewolves, it will be best if we do not bring anyone back to your palace."

"If the werewolves are indeed turning people, they won't turn my son-in-law because they know he will be a great value if they want to negotiate with me. My first daughter has not slept for days over this and she needs to see her husband return to her in one peace."

The king's daughter came to visit his father and after two days of her visit, the southern kingdom was attacked. She did everything she could to go back but the king restrained her because it will be another implication for King Edward II when her daughter becomes an asset in the hands of the werewolves.

There's no time to waste when the king's matter needs attention.

The king's general fixes his eyes on John. "So let me ask you plainly, will you help the king save the southern kingdom?"
