The Million Dollar Man

Chapter 67

I felt my face take on a darkened look as I gave the boy my most lethal glare. Sebastian spoke up from behind me, but I was too distracted to hear him.

<< For the love of-<< Sebastian's hand gripped my shoulder and pulled me back a step. His mouth opened as if he were about to scold me, before his eyes too caught onto the tattoo peeking from the boy's sleeve.

<< What in the-<< Sebastian's voice was drowned out by the sound of a buzzer blaring through the store, making my ears ring painfully.

<< You think I wouldn't recognize London's most dangerous couple? » The boy shouted over the alarm. « C'mon lad, give me some credit, eh ? >>

Sebastian lunged forwards, arms outstretched as if he were going to strangle the boy, which he probably was going to.

The boy expertly dogged Sebastian's attack, and I felt myself suck in a large gulp of air. This was no ordinary boy in the least. According to the black gun on his wrist followed by the number nine, this boy belonged to a gang that had been taken down and torn apart years ago.

But see, with the boy being no older than me, there is no way he could belong to that gang.

I felt myself being quite literally pulled back into reality as Sebastian began to pull my arm, ignoring the boy behind the counter who was laughing manically.

<< Good luck running ! » He shrieked in a demonic voice, << They're coming for you! >>

Shivers shot through me as I processed his words, not nearly giving me enough time to react before Sebastian whipped out his gun and fired one clean shot through the boy's forehead.

It's a shame, because I never got to know his real name.

I shook my head of my depressive thoughts, and focused on running with Sebastian, who was practically dragging me from the store.

We barely made it a few feet from the door before police cars began piling into the parking lot, effectively trapping us at the scene of a crime.

My heart threatened to burst from my chest as Sebastian acted without warning and pushed my body in front of his, placing his gun to the back of my head.

I immediately began to struggle in his hold, my eyes wide as the gun pushed into my skull, sending tidal waves of fear to wash over. Eight police officers formed a horseshoe around us, each of them with a gun pointed out.

<< Drop the gun, King ! » An officer yelled as the sirens within the store came to an end. My stomach tightened as two officers ran into the store, and came out moments later with grim expressions.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a policeman take a step closer, causing Sebastian to place to the gun to the side of my head, in a more visible spot. All the officers froze at once, as did I.

As much as I wanted to yell at Sebastian and question his reckless actions, I knew not to mess with him at a time like this, and especially not in a situation like this.

<< One more step and you'll have two deaths on your hands. » Sebastian threatened, malice dripping in his tone.

My blood froze and I felt my eyes widen even more than before. I wanted to believe that Sebastian wouldn't shoot, but after working by his side for a considerable amount of time I knew you could never know what expect from him. << Listen, » an officer spoke up, << don't be rash, okay? »>

I knew that tone. That cautious tone you would give a scared animal as you tried to comfort it and calm it down. I also knew Sebastian wouldn't react too well with that tone.

<< How about you and your boys leave, »> Sebastian said, << and we can avoid all of this. >>

Sebastian arm wrapped around my waist tightened as he dug his fingers into my side, making me whimper loudly and cry out.

The officer in front of me tensed, glancing side to side. << How about you just calm down, okay? You and I both know that my men and I can't just walk away right now, especially because of the dead guy you were caught running away from in the store. >>

I tensed slightly, growing increasingly worried, as the officers seemed to not be stepping down any time soon.

I felt Sebastian move closer to me, the side of his face now pressing against mine as he spoke quietly, << Sorry about this, love. >>

He didn't give me a moment to think about his words before the back of his gun came down onto the side of my head with surprising force. A scream of blunt pain left my lips as my body crumbled to the ground, my vision immediately being clouded by a coat of black spots.

I remained conscious for only a few more moments, long enough to see a police officer crouch by my body, saying comforting words as he pressed his hand to my fresh wound, and long enough to see four police officers wrestle Sebastian onto the hood of their car, pinning his arms behind his back.

Despite my moment of weakness, I found a sarcastic smile gracing my lips.

Of course Sebastian King would let his overbearing pride try to prevent me from seeing him go down like this.

Only thing is, I did, and with a possible concussion did I do so.

+++++

I woke to a beeping machine and a pounding headache. There was a police officer stationed at the end of my bed, watching me closely as I sat up slowly, watching him wearily.

<< Watch yourself, Emily Kane, wouldn't want to sit up to quickly, might hurt yourself. >> He said softly, offering me a light smile.

My brows furrowed at the sound of the name, confusion sweeping over me.

<< I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask how you know Sebastian King? He seems to think of you as a very important person, for he kept telling us to make sure you were okay. >>

Only then did it dawn on me that Sebastian would give me a fake name, and only then did I remember everything that happened.

Sucking in a breath of air, I knew I was going to have to try to act my way out of this, and instantly forced my eyes to fill up with tears as I began to sniffle pathetically.

<< I hate him, >> I whispered quietly, looking down at the bed I was on.

<< What was that? >> The officer urged, leaning closer to me.

I shook my head gently, wincing as a searing pain shot through my head. << I said I hate him. >>

I cast a wide-eyed, tear filled stare at the police officer, << He ruined me ! >> I screamed, thrashing my arms about as any insane girl would. I continued to chant that as I let the tears streak down my face, giving the officer no choice but to leave the room and run to get a nurse.

The second he left I knew I was going to have to get out of there.

It wouldn't be long before they realized I was no << Emily Kane, »> and in fact a well known gang member, who was apparently only heard of by reputation rather than looks. Then again, I never looked anything like Danny, which is why it was easier for me to go unnoticed in our family.

With my brain on overdrive, I ripped the covers off myself. Gritting my teeth, I yanked the IV out of the crook of my arm, not giving myself the chance to wonder why I even had one to begin with.

I knew I couldn't just run into the hallway that would catch everyone's attention. Biting my lip, I glanced out the window.

It was now or never.

I sprinted quickly walked towards the door, stumbling every now and then as the pain began to grow. I paused at the window and frantically turned around, searching for my clothes.
