Chapter 17
Chapter 17
I had another werewolf history class today, and I was looking forward to it even more.
than usual.
After all, this would be the first time William and I had a class together since he drove me home. I wonder if he would talk to me again.
I got to class early and tried to stay calm while I waited for William to arrive.
After watching the door for over five minutes before he entered the room.
“Hello, Daisy,” he said and sat at the desk next to me.
Yes! He had softened his attitude toward me. Plus, the people who were still talking about me behind my back had to notice my new friendlier relationship with William.
We didn’t talk during class, but I was ecstatic to have William sitting next to me. Yet, he was such a distraction that I had trouble concentrating on what the teacher was saying.
I heard Miss Grant calling on other kids to answer questions, but I couldn’t focus on what she was saying. I kept glancing at William, admiring his handsome profile and how his blond hair glistened with golden highlights.
“Daisy, surely you know the answer. Who was the first leader of the seventh district of the original Alpha Alliance?” the teacher asked.
I barely heard her. I was daydreaming about William k*ssing me for the first time.
“Daisy… Daisy, are you listening to me?” The teacher’s voice finally penetrated my brain.
“Huh. I… I’m suh… sorry, Miss Grr… Grant. I … I didn’t ha… hear you.” I was a little annoyed. She didn’t scold other students who couldn’t answer a question.
“You need to pay attention in class, Daisy,” Miss Grant said. I squirmed at the look of disappointment on her face. “You won’t continue to get excellent grades if you don’t pay attention in class.”
“Ya… yes, ma’am,” I replied: At least there weren’t any nasty comments being whispered. behind me. But my face was on fire after being caught not paying attention in front of
William.
I forced myself to listen to the rest of Miss Grant’s history lecture while stealing glances. at William.

When class ended, I smiled at William, hoping he would speak to me again. I wasn’t disappointed.
“Hey, Daisy, don’t forget about my pool party this weekend,” William said as he stood. “Victor told me he asked you to come.”
“I’ll… I’ll be there,” I promised. William personally asked me to his party! The hissing of. whispers that filled the room didn’t bother me at all.
I walked on air as I made my way to my next class. I no longer cared about the pointing. and whispering.
At lunch, I told Amy about the fake engagement to Victor.
“It was Victor’s idea,” I told her. “He promised to help me attract William, so he’ll want me for his girlfriend. And it’s working. William is friendly toward me now.”
“I don’t know, Daisy. It doesn’t seem right,” Amy said. “It’s not like you to do something this sneaky. It’s lying, and I’ve never seen you live before.”
“We’re only going to pretend to be engaged for a little while,” I said. “It’s not hurting anyb*dy.” Why was Amy making me feel like I was doing something wrong? She knows how much I like William.
“I guess as long as you’re happy,” Amy said with a shrug. “But I wouldn’t do it.”
“I am happy,” I insisted. “Did you hear about William’s pool party?”
Amy nodded and picked up her sandwich.
“William invited me. I’m going with Victor,” I announced. “Do you want to come with us?”
“No,” Amy replied and vehemently shook her head. “The rich Alpha kids at that party don’t want someone like me there. I can’t believe you’re going.”
Before I could say anything else, Kayla Davis and her rich Alpha friends approached our table.
“Can we sit with you,” Daisy?” Kayla asked. The other girls smiled at me while I gaped in surprise. What was going on? There were other empty lunch tables for them to use.
Um, ya…yeah… sure,” I stammered. They seemed friendly now, but in the past twelve. years that I went to school with them, none of them had spoken to me until now.

They put their trays down and sat around the table. It was weird. But it didn’t seem like a joke meant to humiliate me. They seemed friendly too.
A few of the girls began discussing what swimsuits they planned to wear to the pool party. I listened to their chatter and smiled, wondering what on earth is a tankini.
“We heard you were invited to William’s pool party,” Kayla said. “What kind of swimsuit. are you wearing? You’re so thin that you can wear anything and look good.”
I couldn’t tell them I didn’t have a swimsuit and had never worn one. I didn’t know how to swim either.
The truth was, I never wanted a swimming suit. I was too self–conscious of my skinny b*dy and freakishly long legs that made my hips and boobs look way too curvy.
That’s why I didn’t bother to ask Benson to get me a swimsuit that morning. I didn’t
want one.
I… I don’t have one. Is… is it okay to wear a T–shirt and jah… jeans? I asked and then blushed furiously when the Alpha girls giggled.
“You’re too funny,” Kayla said. “I bet you want to surprise everyone at the party with a great new swimsuit. I’ll bet it’s designer and the latest thing. I can’t wait to see it.”
This situation was out of control. I couldn’t do this. The only reason I agreed to Victor’s plan was to get close to William. But he wouldn’t be attracted to a girl who constantly made a fool of herself.
I should tell Victor I felt sick on the day of the party and stay home. Hopefully, William will continue to talk to me here at school.
I sat through the rest of lunch, pretending I wasn’t bored. Listening to the alpha girls prattle on about what they were wearing to the party was dull and stupid.
And why were they worried about their hair and makeup to go swimming?
Still, their conversation confirmed I had to wear a swimsuit at William’s pool party. Unfortunately, I didn’t have one. What was I going to do?
After the Alpha girls hurried off to class, I pulled Amy aside and into a ladies‘ room. “I don’t have a swimsuit,” I whispered into her ear. “What am I going to do?”
“Why don’t parties.”

“That’s a great idea,” I said and pulled out my phone.
Victor answered on the third ring. “Hello, Daisy. How are you today?”

“I’m terrible.” I replied. “Victor. I didn’t ask Benson about a swimsuit because I thought I could just wear my jeans to the party. But the most popular Alpha girls sat with me at lunch, and they laughed when I said I didn’t have a swimsuit. Help me, please.”
“What kind and size do you need?” Victor said. “I’ll send Findlay to buy you one.”
“I have no idea,” I said. “I’ve never had a swimsuit.”
“Don’t worry, I have a better idea,” Victor said. “Watch for me after school. I’ll be waiting for you at the gate.”
