Chapter Leaving the World
Leanna had a terrible night’s sleep tossing and turning, reliving every moment of what had happened in the castle, seeing Charlie as one of those creatures, that image would be stuck in her mind forever but she assumed that as she was becoming one of them, she would no longer have those feelings, a vampire did not feel things in the same way that a human did, they could not appreciate the little things in life because it meant nothing to them, vampires only ever wanted blood, they did not want to see the sunrise or watch flowers grow, Leanna would soon be like them and that scared her more than anything in the world
As the sun rose the next morning and shone through her windows, Leanna woke with a start and jumped off her bed and into the shadows being what she was the sunlight would kill her, it took her a while to realise that it was 8am and that the sun had been up for a while and it had not yet killed her, Leanna got up and stood in the sun, had it all been a dream, had the Dean not bitten her but she felt her neck and the bite marks were there, it made her so angry that she turned around and hit the desk and smashed it to pieces.
“what the hell” she said and looked up into the mirror, why was she different? it was obvious to her because of her strength that she was one of them and her face showed her that she was but why could she walk in sunlight when they did not or could not, Leanna went straight to the library and pulled out every book on vampires that she had and began to read through them, there had to be something in them that would explain why she was different.
As night fell, she was still reading the books, she had not found anything that explained why she was like she was, as she closed the book she was on, her phone began to buzz, Leanna looked down at the screen and saw her father’s name, she picked the phone up and at the last second decided that actually no she did not want to talk to him, he was the last person that she wanted to say anything to after everything he had done.
Once the phone had stopped buzzing, she picked it back up again and looked at the screen, her father had left her a message, she decided that it wouldn’t hurt to listen to what he had to say, she pressed play
“my baby girl some news has reached me that Charlie has lost his life to the fight against this evil for that I am so sorry but also news has reached me, which I hope and pray it is not true, the news that you have been bitten and turned, I will be there soon and if it is indeed true then I will end your suffering baby girl” Her father said and hung up.
Wow thought Leanna that is all he had to say after all this time but she soon realised that she needed to get out, if he was coming, she knew that he would not be coming alone, she had to get out of the city and fast before he came but where would she go, there was no one that could help her now, Then she remembered her grandfather had mentioned a cabin in the mountains, near Claxonville, she knew that none of her family would go there because it was where he was killed.
Leanna picked up a few things that she may need and a variety of books, with her sword on her back she walked from the house, she used as many of the back roads as possible to avoid any contact with people, it was a few days before she realised that she seemed not to have the thirst for blood, how had she not noticed that? She decided that when she eventually made it to the cabin, she would do some tests and find out exactly how much different she was from them.
Leanna stopped in a big forest to rest for a while, she had left the city two days before and she believed that she was far enough away to get some rest, as she sat by a tree her phone began to buzz, she had forgotten that she had picked it up when she left, she looked down at the screen and it was her father again, she picked it up
“what do you want?” she asked
“where are you baby girl?” he asked
“I am at home” she replied “and do not call me that” she added
“rubbish, you are not there because that is where I am, now where are you?” he asked again
“it doesn’t matter” she replied
“where are you?” he asked yet again
“why do you care? You disowned me or have you forgotten that?” she asked
“is it true?” he asked
“what?” she asked
“is any of it true?” Paul asked
“is it true that my husband is dead, if that is what you want to know then the answer is yes” Leanna said
“husband” Paul said
“yes, Paul my husband” she replied
“I am sorry he is dead” Paul said
“no, you are not, you don’t give a damn, you don’t even care that it was me that had to kill him” Leanna snapped
“I do baby girl” Paul said
“no, you don’t, all you care about is your reputation well, let me tell you that you have nothing to fear from me, you will never see me again, you can keep your reputation, just lie and tell them I am all dead, you are good at that” Leanna said
“are you?” Paul asked
“am I what?” Leanna asked
“are you dead” he said
“no, you call yourself my father but you do not seem to know if anyone of those bloody creatures bit me then I would end my own life just like you taught me” Leanna replied
“if it is not true, come home” Paul said
“I have no home, you disowned me and he is dead, I have nothing else to fight for, I am leaving and you won’t see me again” Leanna said
“come home and show me” Paul said
“why do I need to come home and show you, if I am your daughter as you say then you should trust that I am telling you the truth” Leanna said
“come home so that I can see for myself” Paul said
“screw you Paul Andrews go and rot in hell” Leanna said and squeezed her hand and destroyed the phone, yes, she had lied to him but he didn’t need to know what had really happened to her, no one did, that bloody, man made her so angry, he didn’t care about her just that his reputation was safe, she had lied about being bitten for she knew her father and knew that if he ever found out he would travel to the end of the world to find and kill her.
Paul hated vampires more than most people, they had killed his family when he was a small boy and they had tried to kill him many times, he found out late in his life that he was a hunter. After finding out they trained him and taught him everything they knew, he then became the man that everybody trusted with everything, every hunter would go to him when they had questions or wanted to know what to do but nobody knew how cold he was, how he treated the children that he raised and taught because not one of them ever stood up to him just did as they were told
Leanna did love her father and hoped that he would not be too upset that he would never see her again, she hoped that he would be happy again as he once was, Leanna threw the phone in the bushes and closed her eyes to get few hours, sleep for when the sun rose, she would be on her way again, as the sun began to rise Leanna awoke and had a strange feeling, it was weird but she could smell the sun, Leanna ate some food and made a start on the rest of her journey, it would only take a few more days and she would be in Claxonville, the walk was pleasant and quiet, she met nobody on the way.
Once she had reached the edge of the village, she stopped at the tree line and looked in at all the people, it was weird being back here, Leanna had not stepped foot her since her grandfather had died and her parent’s had moved away to the city, she wondered if anyone that she knew still lived here, she was 7 when she left, then she realised if smoke started to come from the cabin in the mountains that people would start to come up and see what was going on, she had to find a way to stop that happening.
She hoped that her grandfather had left all his books at the cabin and that there me be one amongst them that could help her put protection around the cabin so that no one could find it, as she wanted to leave the city quickly she had left most of her belongings back at her house, she did not want to wait around for her father to turn up, she wished that things were different and that she could end her life like her father had taught her but she could not, her father had taught ever since she was a little girl that if she was ever bitten by a vampire she was to put a silver dagger to her chest and push it through her heart but now it came to that point she just could not do it, there must be some way to keep people away from her.
Leanna had already decided that she would never leave the cabin, she would stay there and let the world disappear around her, she wanted no part in the world, hopefully one day the world would destroy itself and then she would finally be free from the curse of immortality, as she stood watching everyone she knew that the main reason that they had to stay away was being a vampire, she knew that she would not age, how she looked now was how she was going to look for all eternity, she began to walk to the cabin through the village and the children that she had seen playing ran past her with one pretending to be a ghost, as they went past Leanna heard one of them whisper that he was the ghost from the cabin in the woods.
That gave her an idea, she watched as the children went and sat by a pond and began to throw stones in, now was her chance, she tried to go to them as quietly as possible, when she was close enough, she said “do you know a witch lives in the cabin along with the ghost” and she tried to move away as quickly so, that the children did not know where the voice had come from, that was when she realised that she had the speed of a vampire and reached the cabin within ten minutes, she walked in and had a look around.
Whilst looking around she found that the place was mainly untouched, she found books, she found a gym in the basement and a vegetable patch in the garden, for days Leanna tried all sorts of things to see how she differed from the others, the only two things that she found was that sunlight had no effect on her and that she did not need blood to survive as they did, she hoped that the rumour would work in the village and that they would not come near her and that the whole world would leave her alone, it did not need someone like her in it.
It took Leanna years of being there to actually make the spell work around the house, magic was something that she was not very good at but being there meant that she know had time to learn and get better at it, at first when she was in the cabin the people did stay away and she had time to read all the books that her grandfather had left there, most of which were about magic which helped with her training, she had no idea of how much time had passed when she found young boy in her vegetable patch pulling up her carrots, that was the day that she put the magic protection around her cabin, it seemed that the outside world was finally getting closer to her and she did not want to happen.
Leanna opened her eyes and she was back in the cabin with Jack, she got changed and went to where Jack was waiting and was ready to start to train him, hopefully to make the world right and how it should be without the foul creatures ruling it
“follow me” she said and walked from the room
