Chapter 103 The New Mistress of the Old Mansion
"Enough! Stop playing it! Michael, I didn't do it! Mason, you bastard, you think you can drive a wedge between me and my son, you..." Scarlett's mask finally slipped, and she cursed at Mason with a twisted face.
In a flash, she lost all the dignity and grace of the Smith family's matriarch.
But Mason didn't care about her words or bother to argue. He just gave Benjamin a look.
Benjamin stepped forward and stuffed a rag into Scarlett's mouth.
Out of respect for Scarlett's status, Benjamin was somewhat gentle despite his firmness.
Mason then turned to the stern-faced Michael, took a deep breath, and said, "Michael, I'm telling you the truth, I didn't want to blow this up. But what your mother did to Emily was too much. This isn't how a mother should act! Keeping her at home will only bring disaster to the Smith family!"
After speaking, Mason looked at Emily with eyes full of guilt and helplessness. "Emily, it's the Smith family that has wronged you. You married into this family and have been wronged. Don't worry, I will make sure you get justice!" Emily shook her head with red-rimmed eyes, wanting to say something but finding herself unable to.
She had long known that Scarlett was behind all this. But having taken that sum of money, she was destined to suffer these consequences.
Even if she didn't suffer, what could she do? If it weren't for Mason's sharp eyes and clear mind discovering all this today, who would have stood up for her? Michael? Absolutely not.
With this thought settled in her mind, Emily took a deep breath and looked up again, only to see Michael staring at her, his eyelids trembling slightly, and his mouth hesitating.
Emily was momentarily stunned, not expecting Michael to reach out and take her hand.
After a while, he spoke. "Grandpa is right, it's the Smith family that has wronged you. I will give you an explanation."
'An explanation? What kind of explanation? Scarlett is your biological mother,' Emily silently asked in her heart.
Seeing Michael seemingly making some kind of decision, and Mason nodding in approval.
The most anxious person at that moment was Scarlett.
She struggled frantically, completely disregarding her image, and even tried to ram into Benjamin with her body. Until no one could control her, she used all her strength to spit out the rag in her mouth.
Then she rushed in front of Michael and yelled, "Michael, you ungrateful son, what are you going to do? What kind of explanation are you going to give this bitch? I carried you for ten months and gave birth to you, and you want to stand up for an outsider..."
"Enough!" Michael was already extremely upset, his voice hoarse even as he shouted.
Emily quickly stood up with Michael, protectively standing behind him.
"Mom, haven't you done enough shameful things? What kind of mother would think of tarnishing her son's wife's reputation? You're creating chaos, trying to ruin the Smith family, ruin my reputation? Yes, maybe you never loved me, so why would you consider me?"
"When I was a child, I just wanted you to sing me a lullaby, but you wouldn't even give me that. When I grew up, you always wanted to use me and Veda to achieve your goals! How could there be such a heartless mother in the world!" "I can't protect you anymore. Maybe from the start, you shouldn't have had me and Veda, shouldn't have married into the Smith family. This was all a mistake!"
Emily had never seen Michael like this, and neither had Scarlett, Mason, or Benjamin. They were all taken aback by Michael's intense outburst.
His voice was filled with pain and despair, like a soul struggling in the abyss, making one's heart ache.
The mess lasted until the next morning.
In the end, surprisingly, Mason didn't intervene in Scarlett's punishment. Instead, Michael personally ordered Andrew to contact the police and had Scarlett sent away.
The Smith family finally returned to peace.
"So, are you going to stay at the old Mansion for a while?" A few days later, Abigail called Emily for a chat.
"Probably. There has been chaos lately, and Michael hasn't been to the company for several days. I think I should stay and... accompany Grandpa." Emily paused for a moment, ultimately not revealing her true intentions. But who was Abigail? Just from that, she could roughly guess Emily's thoughts.
Abigail said, "Alright, no need to hide anything from me! Since that's the case, you should stay at the old Mansion. I never thought Scarlett could be so vicious; she deserved to be sent to the police. Let the police educate her and make her reflect!"
Knowing that Emily still couldn't let go of Michael, Abigail asked her, "But after all, she's Michael's biological mother. He really made a tough decision for you, Emily. Is there really no chance for you two?" Before, Emily would have firmly responded, "Of course not!" But now, she hesitated, not knowing what to say.
"Alright, it's nothing, I was just asking casually! Then I'll wait for you to come back and help you decorate the new house! Oh, and you must remember to treat me to a meal!" Abigail changed the subject. "Of course, I remember," Emily replied.
After chatting with Abigail for a while, Emily felt much better.
The Smith family had been in a low state these past few days. Mason fell ill, Scarlett was taken away, and Michael was nowhere to be seen.
Emily had to take care of everything at home. On top of that, the fatigue from pregnancy, back pain, and poor appetite had kept Emily from smiling for a long time.
"Mrs. Smith, finally found you, here you are!" After a while, Lexine Powell, who took care of Veda's daily needs, found Emily.
Like most of the Smith family's servants, she usually didn't show much respect to Emily.
Because in their eyes, Emily marrying into the Smith family was already a big step up.
But everything changed, and the power dynamics shifted overnight.
Emily suddenly became the one in charge of the Smith family.
Everyone had to obey her, naturally treating her with more respect and deference. "What happened?" Emily asked.
"You should go and see, Ms. Smith refuses to eat and insists on going out!" Lexine replied.
Ever since she found out Scarlett was sent to the police, Veda had been deeply affected.
First, she went on a hunger strike for a few days, and now she was clamoring to go out.
Her constant unrest and tantrums had made the household restless, causing Mason's migraines to flare up.
Emily knew this couldn't go on, so she decided to go to Veda's guest room alone.
