Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love

Chapter 143 Marriage Is More Than Just A Union Of Two People

Although Nancy was trying her best to move on, Charles would always pop out of nowhere and ruin her plans.

How could she start over when he would pester her every now and then?

The man evidently had no clear grasp of the term break up. He was just too stubborn to give up!

"You just don't want me to have a good time, do you?" Nancy snorted, obviously annoyed that Charles had once again managed to destroy her day.

"I'm not feeling any better than you," he replied, lighting a cigarette.

"How many times do I have to tell you? We have separated, Charles! You can't pull this stint anymore!"

"Is this the reason why you're going on a blind date?"

Nancy was surprised at what he said. "Oh, so now you're stalking me?"

"You haven't answered my question yet." With extremely furrowed brows, Charles intently looked straight at her eyes.

"Why should I answer you? It's none of your business!"

When he heard the mockery on her tone, he was suddenly angered. And to contain his rage, he pinched her chin and said, "Listen, Nancy. That's where you and I disagree. You see, I will never let you marry o even date someone else aside from me."

"We're not in a feudal society anymore, Charles. You don't own me and have no right to stop me from doing what I want!" Nancy protested, sporting an arrogant expression on her pretty face. "Please don't be so selfish, Nancy! Think about the kids. Nadia and Bobby get along very well, and your daughter had finally accepted me! We can finally give them a complete, happy family! If you date another man, how could you be sure that he'll treat Nadia as his own?"

For once, Charles sounded so rational even though a hint of desperation could be extracted from his voice.

Even Nancy was surprised to hear him so talkative. And more than that, he seemed to have a lot to say.

"What if he doesn't treat Nadia well? Are you going to divorce him? Think about that! You can't just go around dating whoever you like when you have a daughter to think about!"

"So what? You're not even the right one for me! How can you speak like that?! Your grandfather, mother, and your whole family think that I don't deserve you. So why should I force myself on you?! We're not gonna be happy together, Charles! Not when your family opposes our relationship!" A pang of pain and bitterness coated Nancy's tone as she expressed the sentiments she had been keeping to herself. If she were to be honest, she also wanted them to be together and build a happy family.

But their marriage was already out of the question the moment his family got involved. After all, it was not just a union of two people, but of the family too.

With so many people against their love, how could the two of them fight for it?

"I don't care if they're against it! I just wanna be with you! You're all that matters! Only you, Nancy!" "Let's stop talking about this." Nancy cut him out immediately, feeling slightly dizzy from all the stress she had gathered recently.

Why did everything have to be like this?

She just wanted to be happy just like anybody else.

Was it what happened five years ago that ultimately decided her fate?

Could Charles really change the course of her life? Or would he be her biggest downfall?

Nancy didn't sleep well that night as those thoughts filled her mind.

Even Charles, who was so desperate to get her back, was pounded with those thoughts.

Both of them tossed and turned on the bed until the clock hit, and the devil's hour and dawn sipped through the night.

Morning came, and the two walked out of their room, ready to take on the day.

Charles drove Nadia and Bobby to the kindergarten after breakfast while Nancy went to the hospital.

The latter had not even fully settled in her office when Erin came rushing in.

As she was unwilling to be around Jessie, Nancy got Erin work for her.

"Dr. Nancy, someone is looking for you outside."

"Send the person in please," she ordered, thinking that it was a patient.

But as soon as the person stepped in, Nancy was surprised to see that it was Jerome.

"Why are you here? Don't you have work?" she asked politely, placing her bag underneath her office table.

"The students went to an event today, and I don't have class, so I come here to see you. I heard that you set up the Second Pediatric Department. Way to go, Nancy!" Jerome greeted and sat on the sofa while Nancy poured him a cup of tea.

"I just make good use of my time while I am young, in case I can't do what I want when I'm old." The humility in her voice, coupled with her bright smile, only heightened her natural beauty. "That's a great mindset you have there! Is there anything I can do to help?" he offered while taking a sip of his drink.

"You're not a doctor, and I don't think you're familiar with my work. But maybe, you can copy this list for me! It's not a hard task." Nancy handed the list to Jerome. Deep down, she was glad that he came on the perfect time to help her sort out some administrative tasks.

"Alright! This is pretty easy." After taking a quick look at the paper, he put down the cup and sat down in front of the desk.

Then, suddenly, the door squeaked open, revealing Jessie.

"Oh, you have a visitor! Who is the handsome gentleman?" A glint of intrigue and sarcasm was painted on her face as she surveyed Jerome from head to foot.

"He is an old classmate." Nancy's tone was indifferent. In fact, she didn't even flash a smile and just kept a straight face while answering Jessie.

"I thought he is your new boyfriend. Hmmm...you're quite good, Dr. Nancy! You just broke up with Mr. Fu, and now you have such a handsome classmate visit you at work!" Nancy was not stupid not to recognize her condescending tone. Clearly, Jessie was implying something else, but Nancy wasn't having all of it.

"It's none of your business, Jessie! Go and find yourself and man, and stop lurking around here!" This time, Nancy let her knew she was pissed at her nosiness. Even her face outrightly revealed her irritation. "Oh, don't be like that! I just came to see you. I'm not gonna rob your man!" Jessie snorted before quickly turning around and leaving her office.

"Even if you scramble for something, you won't get anything!" Jerome shouted at her from behind. He obviously didn't like the woman's tone either; she was just too prying, given that he had only met her. But Jessie intentionally left the door open. She was aiming to start another gossip in the office that involved the latter.

And true enough, in just a short while, many of their workmates began popping their heads at the door, hoping to catch a glimpse of the handsome man inside.

"Wow, is he really Dr. Nancy's boyfriend?"

"Director Jessie is right! Dr. Nancy is really good with men! She just broke up with Mr. Fu a few days ago, but now she's here with another man!"

"Ha-ha! That was fast! It seems that she has taken a bullet train."

"What are you talking about?" At this moment, Erin, who happened to come in, shouted to those snoopy colleagues by the door.

"Oh, look at you! When did you learn to protect your boss?" All of them glanced at her with evident disdain. Even their eyes gave away that they were clearly mocking her for being a nurse. "Humph! Mind your own words!" Erin retorted angrily, shoving them off with both her hands.

Perhaps feeling guilty, those prying colleagues broke up in an uproar, and eventually went back to their respective station.

"I thought the hospital was a sacred place. I didn't expect that there would be so many gossips here," Jerome uttered, shaking his head in embarrassment.

"Well, that's just human nature. It has nothing to do with work."

"That's right, but working in such an environment is hard for you," he expressed. Then after a while, he asked, "Have you ever thought about setting up a private hospital yourself?"

'Hmmm.J actually haven't thought about it," Nancy answered honestly. She had been so preoccupied lately that thinking about it seemed to be inessential for her.

"Dr. Nancy, you seem to be the star of the news again! Everyone's just talking about you on the hospital's forum!" Erin uttered, passing the phone to Nancy in a hurry. Someone must have posted the gossip online again!

As she cast a glance at it, Nancy's eyes blazed with fury. "It must be Jessie. She is such a troublemaker!"

Then, with the phone in her hand, she directly approached the culprit.

"Jessie, don't you have anything better to do? Why do you always mess with me?" Without thinking anything further, Nancy directly lashed out as soon as she saw her.

But to her disbelief, Jessie merely flashed an arrogant smile and said, "What are you talking about? I've never messed you. It's you who has been messing with me ever since you came back! Have you ever thought about my feelings? About what I have suffered? Have you ever thought about my pain? Huh?! Don't point the finger at me! It's you who made your own mess! And I'm just seeking a payback! Now, if you can't take it, then leave!" "I won't leave, Jessie Wang. I won't let you get away with it! You want a payback! Alright! Wait for it!" Loud and proud, Nancy spat those words straight to Jessie's face. Then, she walked out without giving the latter a chance to rebut, holding her head high.

Nancy was confident that there was no way she would lose to that conniving witch! Hell would definitely break loose in this hospital!
