Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love

Chapter 122 Another Break-Up

While tightly grasping the hem of her gown, Nancy frantically ran over to her mother.

"Mom! Mom!11

At this time, Charles had jumped into the water and immediately pulled up Nancy's mother, who was still struggling. He lifted her with all his strength and swam towards the bank.

"Aunt..."

"Mom..."

Nancy and Doris helped Charles carry Jade ashore.

Nancy immediately helped her mother do chest compressions and gave her artificial respiration.

As she did this, beads of cold sweat gathered on her forehead. Even her hands that were exerting force on Jade's chest were trembling in fear.

Fortunately, someone called the ambulance, which soon arrived.

The onlookers couldn't help but sigh as they watch Jade being loaded inside to go to the hospital.

"Is the engagement ceremony over?"

"Yes, it is!"

The guests shook their heads in a mixture of disappointment and slight worry. After all, they weren't expecting such an incident to happen in one of the heavily reported events in the entire city. "Joseph, did you do that?" Derrick asked in a low voice. The hint of suspicion was evident not just in his face but even in his tone.

His son, although kept his mouth shut, just laughed while coolly putting his hands in his pockets.

"I was with you all this time. Even if I wanted to do that, I didn't have time, you know."

"It would be better if it was not you. Now that your grandpa seemed neutral about Nancy, it will be best if we don't provoke him," Derrick warned him with a stern tone.

"Humph! Am I really that kind of person?" This time, Joseph was filled with disdain.

Meanwhile, the ambulance arrived at the hospital and immediately discarded Jade to the emergency room.

The doctors were started rescuing their patient in the emergency room.

And all Nancy could do was sit on the waiting chair while covering her face with her palms.

She was not the type to get too emotional, but ever since she got involved with the Fu family, a lot of terrible things had happened to her and the people around her. And all these too much to handle even for a strong woman like her.

It seemed as if a binding force was prompting him to stay away from Charles.

She could care less if she was the target, but she could not ignore her mother's and Nadia's lives being in danger because of her.

They were her only family, the most important people in her life. And she couldn't afford to lose them over her happiness.

After all, blood was really thicker than water. So while waiting for the doctor's update, Nancy wondered if she deserved to be happy while their lives were in jeopardy.

"Nancy, I will find out what happened today and get to the bottom of it. Don't worry!"

Charles tried to comfort his fiance, seeing as how a mixture of worry and exhaustion was painted on her face. He gently squeezed her hands to ease her burden somehow. "Why do all these things always happen ever since I got involved with you? I'm tired, Charles. I'm tired of it all! Maybe it's time you finally let me go." The pain in her voice exhibited how decisive she was. She was really ready to let go of him! "What are you talking about? Everyone in this city knows that we are engaged. How can you break up with me just like this?! I will never agree!"

Nancy looked straight into his sharp eyes, and slowly she stated with utmost conviction, "You're wrong. Everyone knows that the ceremony didn't finish. I don't want anything bad to happen to my family. I don't want it at all!

I'm really sorry, Charles."

For a while, Charles was lost in a daze. His mouth was agape while his eyes beamed with sorrow.

This was the least he was expecting when he woke up today. It should have been a happy day for him, but a storm suddenly came wrecking his world.

Right now, all he could do was helplessly stare at Nancy with a pair of eyes, almost begging her to rethink everything. There was no way in hell he'd let her go after everything that had happened. While swearing this to himself, the doctor came out approaching them.

"Doctor Nancy, your mother has woken up!"

"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Nancy's voice was filled with relief and excitement as she bowed a couple of times. Then, she urgently stood up and walked over to her mom.

With an oxygen mask on her head, Jade quietly stared at Nancy's face for a while, and then rested her eyes on Charles' face.

She opened her mouth to say something, but the oxygen mask prohibited her to.

"Mom, I'm here. Don't worry. Well talk later!" Nancy comforted her while gently caressing her hands.

"Aunt..." Charles also came over and greeted her with a cautious voice.

Unable to talk, Jade could only look at him with sheer sadness glimmering in her teary eyes.

Nancy thought that her mother was probably opposed to her being engaged to a man like Charles.

"Mr. Fu, please go back. I will take care of my mother by myself." The formality in her voice left Charles dumbfounded. More than that, she had obviously made up her mind to drive him out. So, after being petrified for some time, Charles silently walked out of the room, feeling utterly helpless.

On his way out, he bumped with Ethan and Doris, who were both coming to see Jade.

"Mr. Fu, are you going back?" Ethan asked in a raised voice.

Frowning, Charles kept his head down and said nothing.

Then, he walked past them while wearing his shoulders down.

"Damn it! This day is such a mess!" Doris felt a pang of remorse, almost blaming herself for what happened. Nancy had explicitly instructed her to take care of her mother, but she was too careless. 'Why did I leave Aunt Jade to get the water?' she silently thought.

"It's not your fault, it's the bad guy behind the curtain!" Noticing how Doris bore a brooding face, Ethan had an idea of what she might have been thinking.

"Who was it? It took only two minutes for me to get the water, and there was no one around when I left. Who would be watching Aunt Jade?"

"I think Charles will soon find out who's behind it. Come on! Let's go!" Ethan reassured as he entered the ward with Doris.

"Here you are!" Even though it was quite an exhausting day for her, Nancy was still able to speak so calmly.

"I'm sorry, Nancy. If I didn't..."

"Don't say that. I don't blame you. Really, I should thank you. Had I been engaged to Charles today, things would have been worse than this!" Nancy interrupted Doris' explanation.

"Don't say that. You're scaring me!" Doris forced a smile, although deep down, she was curious as to why Nancy would say those last words.

'Tm telling the truth. But anyway, you two should help me send my mother back to the sanatorium later."

"That soon?" Ethan asked, sporting a confused yet surprised look on his face.

"Yeah. I can't work well if my mother stays here." Although Nancy was already thinking about work, her mind was wandering on other things. More than that, she was too bothered about the engagement even i she was passing it off as nothing through her fake smiles.

She felt confused and empty, like an essential piece of her was just taken away.

And it hurt so much!

So, to distract herself, Nancy thought it would be best to keep herself busy so that she could get over it and move on.

Although still confused, Ethan and Doris just agreed in unison,

"O-Okay."

True enough, Nancy sent her mother back to the sanatorium later that afternoon, where she happened to bumped into Frederic.

It was not a secret that the Fu family was a prominent investor of that sanatorium. So knowing this, Nancy merely thought that the old man must have come to check it together with Joseph and Dorothy. But Nancy didn't have the energy to interact with them. So instead, she lowered her head and pretended not to see them.

Unfortunately for her, Dorothy had already caught sight of her.

"Isn't that Miss Ning?" Dorothy uttered in a high-pitch voice. The hint of excitement in her tone couldn't escape Nancy's ears. In fact, the former was the happiest one to see their engagement over. More than that, she was confident to have someone back her up now that Frederic was back.

So, channeling the arrogance in her face, she slowly approached Nancy.

It looked like she was going to defeat her in a nonexistent battle.

However, at this point, Nancy was just too weak and exhausted to even care about her.

"Yes!" Nancy answered her stubbornly, but didn't stop.

"Are you going to pretend that you didn't see us at all?" Sarcasm coated Dorothy's arrogant tone.

"She's a feisty one, huh. I like that!" Joseph expressed with a smug on his face. He was well-known to be playboy, and ever since Daisy failed to give birth to his child, he had done nothing but play fire with

women.

So as time went by, his marriage with Daisy gradually became just mere decoration. And he only stayed with her to keep his family's name from being tarnished by the media.

But Nancy just ignored them and left in a hurry.

"Nancy?" asked Frederic slowly, trying to stop her.

And since Frederic was an old man, it was impolite if she ignored him and kept walking. So Nancy stopped and greeted respectfully, "Mr. Frederic."

Frederic laughed at the sight of this, thinking that Nancy was really different from those covetous women who would beg to be part of their family.

He seemed to have a wrong impression of her.

Nancy was not like any of those women. Something about her was different and interesting, and perhaps that was what led his grandson into falling in love with her.

Frederic stared into her eyes and found that this woman was pure and genuine to her intentions.

But, even with those positive traits, he could feel that she was also a bit stubborn-much like his grandson too!

Thinking that, Frederic felt that she was a match for Charles, and he liked that.

However, her family background was not too impressive to be part of his family.

Would he still let her marry his grandson even with that disparity in their wealth? Was Frederic ready to let that one slide? "Let me introduce them to you. This is my grandson, Joseph, and this is Dorothy. Charles grew up with them, so you could say they are quite close." Frederic took a step forward and uttered those meaningful words.
