Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love

Chapter 121 The Engagement

Charles took the liberty of taking Jade out of the sanatorium early on the day of the engagement.

After he was certain that she was alright, he handed her over to Doris.

Nancy reminded Doris over and over again to take good care of her mom.

The news about their engagement was the talk of the entire city, causing a sensation across various media platforms. Even celebrities and public figures were present to celebrate with them. Whether they received the invitation or not, those who heard the news attended bearing gifts to congratulate the two.

When Angelina heard that Frederic would come, she went to a secret place to hide out of fear the patriarch would lash out on her in front of the public.

And true enough, the old man eventually arrived at the hotel escorted by Hardy, Derrick, and Joseph.

The domineering presence of these four men stirred a ruckus among reporters and media practitioners present to cover the entire event. They gathered around them, snapping pictures from every angle. 'Will Frederic really let Charles marry Nancy?"

"Yes. I don't think he'll come here if he didn't consent to this."

"I can tell that Joseph is not delighted at all from his look." "Well, Frederic let Charles take over the TS Group instead of him. So that's probably why Joseph is wearing such a long face."

"I agree with you!"

The onlookers, who attended to witness the family drama rather than congratulate the couple, were gossiping. They closely scrutinized the arrival of those men.

At this time, Jill and Clark came together while Fannie and Caspar followed behind them. Although they had a rift in the past, they still attended as Nancy's family. "Sister, brother-in-law, Congratulations!" Fannie greeted with a bright smile.

"Congratulations, Nancy!" Jill echoed, unable to look straight at the couple while Charles stood mightily, obviously guarding Nancy against them.

It was apparent to him that they just taking advantage of Nancy's situation right now. The latter was in a good place-about to marry one of the richest bachelors in the city.

And since the greedy family recognized it, they fawned on Nancy as if they had never done anything terrible to her. But Charles wouldn't be swayed with their smiles and obviously forced greetings.

"Thank you," Nancy replied, looking so gorgeous in her regal evening gown. She was not only the star of the night but also the most beautiful woman around.

And because it was a significant occasion, graced by the presence of the most prominent figures in the city, Nancy wouldn't go against Fannie if ever the latter dared to plot something.

"Oh, you are Clark?" A voice suddenly rang from behind. When they turned their heads around, they saw Frederic walking to them with a crutch while casting a scornful glance at Clark.

"Hello, Mr. Frederic Fu," Clark greeted him respectfully, slightly bowing his head for courtesy.

"Well, I hear that you have such a good and doting daughter."

When Frederic said this, Fannie suddenly smiled shyly as if she was the one being referred to.

"I know she's named Nancy, right? The one who is going to get engaged to my grandson, Charles." Then, Frederic diverted his glance at Nancy, who was now occupied entertaining other guests.

At the same time, the smile on Fannie's seemed to freeze while the hint of joy in her eyes glimmered away.

"Yes, she is my daughter!" Clark proudly answered. "Nancy, come here!"

Frederic called in haste, waving at her.

Although many guests had already arrived, the engagement ceremony was yet to start.

And Nancy couldn't help but feel all the jitters filling her body.

It wasn't even the butterflies in her stomach, but she couldn't relax at all. She felt that something terrible was going to happen and ruin this night.

"Grandpa!" Nancy came over and greeted him politely.

With a discerning expression, Frederic surveyed her from her head down to her feet.

"You are such a beautiful and elegant woman. But why did you give birth to a baby at such a young age?" Joseph interrupted gloomily, before Frederic even had the chance to say something. His brooding face showcased how indifferent he was of this occasion.

"Joseph, watch your mouth!" The old man, tightening his grip on his crutch, was quick enough to scold his son angrily.

"Well, I just asked her what you've been meaning to. You should thank me forthat, father," Joseph retorted with apparent disdain on his face.

"Grandpa! The engagement ceremony is about to start. We can talk about it later," said Charles, who was walking towards the old man.

As he got close, he intimately took Nancy's arm.

"You... How can I face the deceased Kevin?" asked Frederic seriously.

"Grandpa, I only take responsibility for the people who are alive. What's the fun in caring for those who have passed away?" The old man, and even Charles' seniors, were dumbfounded at his words. They couldn't believe that he grew up into this kind of man, who could outrightly refute Frederic without getting scared at all.

"Charles, please. Don't talk to your grandpa like that!" Nancy pleaded in a low voice.

"You are even worse than this young woman! You are such an ungrateful person!" the old man muttered, slightly shaking out of anger.

"If that's what you want to say, then so be it! I don't care! "With those words, Charles casually pulled Nancy away without looking back at his family.

While being dragged by her soon-to-be-fiance, Nancy turned around and apologetically uttered to Frederic, "I'm so sorry, Grandpa!"

"Humph! My grandson is really a bastard. He is never going to apologize to me! He is worse than that woman, Nancy!"

"Grandpa, don't trust whatever that woman said. She must have done something to get married into the Fu family. She's more than what she looks! I bet she'll never respect you too," Joseph sneered indifferently.

His tone was filled with so much disdain as he darted his sharp eyes towards Nancy.

"Okay, okay! What you said is right. It's all my fault, isn't it?" Frederic was so angry that he had to walk away while tightly holding on to his crutch.

At this moment, the engagement ceremony officially began.

Hand in hand, Charles and Nancy glided through the aisle with Nadia and Bobby following them from behind.

At one corner sat Jade, who watched them nervously with quivering hands.

"Auntie, you are very happy today, aren't you?" asked Doris with a smile as she pushed her to a tree shade near the swimming pool.

"Well...yes. It should be a happy day, shouldn't it?" The corners of Jade's mouth twitched. She wanted to laugh, but her smile was a little rigid.

From afar, she intently looked at her daughter, whose face beamed in sheer happiness.

This moment made Jade reminisce the day she got engaged to Clark.

It was such a memorable day that was supposed to be etched in her mind forever. However, as time went by, they gradually lost spark and eventually separated. "Aunt, please wait here. I'll get you a bottle of water." As soon as Doris finished speaking, she fixed her wheelchair and strode to the drinking area.

However, within two minutes that she was gone, Jade disappeared from where she left her.

"Aunt, aunt..." Doris shouted in a low voice, frantically looking around in slight panic.

But after some time, she grew anxious as she still couldn't find her.

Nancy and Charles were now exchanging rings, and because she didn't want to disturb and worry them, Doris had to find Jade by herself. "Auntie, where did you go? Come on!" Beads of cold sweat broke on her forehead out of mixed fear and worry.

"Aunt..."

The more she called Jade, the more desperate she became.

Then, suddenly, a splash of water from the other side of the swimming pool resounded.

Already knowing that it might have been Jade, Doris immediately threw the bottle away and ran towards there as fast as she could.

When she got there, the sight of a wheelchair lying on its side made her heart beat so frantically. And the worst part was, Jade was nowhere to be found. "Aunt..." Doris called as she saw a figure floating in the swimming pool.

It was Jade.

'What the hell happened?

How could she have fallen into the pool?' she thought silently, wondering if someone had done this to Jade.

"Help! Help! Someone fell into the water!" Doris screamed desperately, causing almost everyone to cast their glance towards her.

"What's wrong?" a guest asked.

"I don't know. That sounds scary," someone responded.

At this point, Doris didn't know what to do. She was on the verge of crying while panicking.

"Nancy, Nancy, come here! Your mother fell into the swimming pool!" Her voice was full of anxiety as she called her friend. Although she didn't want to interrupt the ceremony, she was left with no choice. When Nancy heard this, the engagement ring fell from her hand to the ground. She picked up the hemline of her gown and quickly walked towards Doris.

"Nancy?" Charles called, closely following her. But the latter neither responded nor looked back. She was too occupied with her worry that she didn't care about the ceremony anymore.

"What happened?" Nadia frowned and asked after seeing her mother flee towards the pool.

"Nadia, grandmother is in trouble!" replied Bobby slowly.

"What should we do?" The young girl was so anxious that she almost cried. She could only glance at her mother as the latter hurried towards where Doris was.

"I don't know either," Bobby responded, feeling lost as he shook his little head.

At this point, everyone had seemed to forget about the engagement. Their focus now shifted to the incident where the bride and groom-to-be hurried, wearing a tense and apprehensive expression on their faces.
