Chapter 69 

XANDER 

I turned on the bed and expected to feel Maliya’s warmth beside me but there was none. I placed my hands and searched for her body but her side of the bed seemed cold which made me open my eyes, only to realize that she was gone. 

Judging from our cold her side was, I could tell that she didn’t just leave the room which made me curious. Where could she have gone to! I rose to my feet as I waited for a few minutes for her to return. If she went to the bathroom, she should be back soon. 

A few minutes pass by, but there are still no signs of her. I soon got frustrated and left the room angrily to search for her. 

1 noticed that she had been awfully quiet since we arrived here. Maybe she doesn’t want to be here then? 

It was late already and the weather was a little chilly so I didn’t expect her to be roaming around freely in the night. 

A few maids bowed to show their respect and my mind went to the only place I could think of. I knew how much she loved visiting the garden. She couldn’t be walking around so late just to watch the garden right? 

“Hey,” I stopped a maid who was walking by and decided to ask her for the direction of the garden. 

“How can I get to the garden?” I asked as she pointed to the path I was taking befor 

before I stopped her. 

The lamps were my guide as I continued to walk straight when I finally saw her. Her figure was what drew my attention and as I moved closer, I noticed that a man was standing in front of her, 

I felt a surge of rage course through my veins as I saw my woman speaking to another man. Who the hell on earth would dare to speak to my woman in a comer for that matter in the middle of the night? 

My eyes were blinded by rage and all I wanted to do was to break the mat’s bone and teach him a lesson for speaking to my woman 

Alpha 

I stormed over there to break them apart but as soon as I moved closer, I noticed that it was 

1 relaxed a bit, knowing that Alpha Kane wouldn’t dare to think about stealing my woman, but then, my stomach churned as soon as I noticed tears on Maliya’s face. 

“What the hell is going on here?” I asked with a frown as 1 looked between the two before finally settling my gaze on Maliya. 

1 didn’t miss the resistance in her eyes and I could feel that something was wrong but before I could ask her what the problem was Alpha Kane broke the silence. 

“Erm something entered her eyes and that was what I was trying to help her get out before you arrived. Alpha Kane said with a polite smile, judging from Maliya’s reaction. I could tell that wasn’t what happened.

I wondered what could have brought Maliya to tears. She wasn’t the type to break down easily but when I caught them, it didn’t look like Alpha Kane was trying to harass or bully her either. 

What could the problem be then! 

I looked at Maliya as she shifted her weight from one leg to another as if she was in deep thought. That is an old habit that I don’t even think she realizes she does every time she does it. 

She shook her head as if she had decided against whatever was going through her head and walked out. 

It finally clicked why there might be a bule misunderstanding Alpha Kane was the one who sold Maliya to me which was why I helped him in the first place. 

Is she uncomfortable being around the man who sold her? Why didn’t I think about it early thought 

I didn’t know much about Alpha Kane and Maya’s relationship before she was sold but if there was one thing I was certain about, it had to be the fact that Maliya’s eyes were filled with tears not because something entered her eyes like Alpha Xander had claimed. There has to be another reason Whatever it is. I’m going to find out soon enough. 

I watched as Malaya’s body disappeared into the darkness as she left angrily and I gave Alpha Kane one last look. He seemed relaxed as if nothing had gone wrong but within the last few moralis that I have come to know Maliya, I can tell when something is off and when all is well. 

I went after Maliya immediately, leaving Alpha Xander behind as I made my way towards our room 

she would be asleep because 

By the time I got back inside, she was already lying on the bed as she pretended to be asleep. I knew there was no way she just got inside so she was rather trying to avoid me or the conversation he knew that we were going to have.. 

“What happened out there?” I asked as I walked into the room. She remained quiet for a while and just when I thought she was going to pretend as 

if she was still sleeping, she finally spoke up. 

“Nothing” she said shortly but that was even more reason for me to believe that something was 

“I know when something is off and when it’s not. What the hell happened out there!?” I demanded answers. 

Malaya sat up on the bed and just when I expected a proper explanation from her, she pointed in the wall clock, making me confused. 

“It’s late, I need to get some rest,” she said dismissively. 

“Acting up won’t change anything. I need you to speak up and tell me exactly what happened, I frowned. “Only then will I know what to do and I believe that you don’t need me to remind you of that either,” I furrowed my brows and she seemed to be pretty irritated by my words. 

“Speak up about what exactly!” She snapped, taking me by surprise. “You played a role in the hole in my heart. Heck, you were the one that sharpened the dagger and put a hole in my chest so what else do you need me to say?” 

Her tone was harsh and daring, and I was even more convinced that something was wrong with her. 

“Explain clearly so that I can understand. I demanded. 

“I can not explain further than this. You asked me a question and that is my answer,” she said firmly. She arranged herself on the bed before looking at me for a split second once again. Good Night, Alpha Xander,” she announced before going back to sleep. 

No matter how much I tried to ignore it. I couldn’t stop the questions that kept ringing in my head. What happened between those two 

Once I figured I wouldn’t get an answer from Maliya to matter how hard I tried, I left the room to look for Lord Williams. He was the one who bought her. He should know the relationship between those two. 

“Alpha, is there a problem! Why are you here in the middle of the night?” He asked with a concerned look as he opened his door to find me standing there. He opened the door wider for me to come in and when I did, I began to ask him questions immediately. 

“I want to know every single detail about Maliya’s life here and her relationship with Alpha Kane, I announced. 

“Erm. I thought I had told you this before?” Lord Williams said and I furrowed my brows. “I don’t know what kind of relationship they have per se, but when he brought her over. Maliya seemed to be surprised that she was getting sold by him because he was her mate,” Lord Williams announced. 

I knew Alpha Kane was desperate but what I didn’t expect was selling his mate in exchange for power. I never really did proper findings because she was meant to be a mere slave before everything changed, 

No wonder Mallya seems to be mad at me too. I was the one who bought her from Alpha Kane and still dragged her to attend the coronation of the man who sold her off to get to the position he currently has. 

“Get every other information on the matter and report back to me as soon as possible, I ordered.
