Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Five
The night is dark and chilly as we follow the human girl to her apartment. Eric told me her name is Sophia, and her boyfriend, the newly turned vampire, is Charlie.
As we follow her down a dark street, I look up at Eric. His red eyes are glowing like a red nightlight, and I smile. “You know, I’m a fan of your new eye color. It makes it easier to tell you and Logan apart.”
“Oh, come on now, I’ve always been the hotter twin,” Eric says, and he isn’t even joking. He fully believes it to be the truth and shoots me a smirk. “I already know you’re equally attracted to us, but I feel way more confident now that I can read your mind.”
I roll my eyes. “Let’s focus on the task, shall we?”
Eric breathes a laugh but falls silent when we both realize at the same time that the girl is now walking inside a building. She is tapping the code on the door, and Eric immediately zeroes in on her fingers. She is tapping it rather slowly, and Eric smiles at that. “Four, zero, nine, nine, seven, and…zero. That should be the code. Easy–peasy.”
“Great work,” I shove an elbow into his side. “I’m impressed. Maybe you could be a
burglar?”
“If I weren’t the Alpha of my pack, I would definitely consider that field of work,” he says before taking my hand. “Come on, let’s follow Sophia. I bet she keeps her murderous. boyfriend locked up in the bathroom still.”
I grimace as I’m forced to follow. “Do you think it’s going to be a scene?”
“Definitely,” Eric doesn’t sound worried; he sounds excited at the possibility of a fight. If
we weren’t holding hands, I bet he would be rubbing his together in anticipation. “At least
I want there to be a fight so I can test out my newfound hybrid abilities.”
0 I get that, but remember, the vampire we will be taking back to the pack is a murderer. It means he could be very aggressive and unpredictable. He might even hurt his girlfriend if he realizes that he is in danger.”
“We will
will just have to try and keep her alive. You’re a strong werewolf, Five. We got this,”
Eric says as we step out of the shadows and approach the door. Our fingers let go, and Eric
taps in the code to enter the building. “Let’s go enter the lion’s lair.”
“It’s the wolf’s lair,” I mutter as I follow Eric.
He chuckles. “Whatever.”
We climb the stairs, and I can feel this unexplainable tension in my body, like a sixth
sense. I can feel Eric’s excitement, but my fear vastly overshadows it. My instincts tell me that something bad is waiting for us upstairs, and I am not wrong; as soon as we reach the
top floor, we hear Sophia scream,
Eric rushes forward, pushing through the door of her apartment with a loud bang. We
both rush inside, and what we see shocks us both to our core – Sophia is lying on the
ground with Charlie hovering over her, hissing like an animal, and drinking from her neck with crazed eyes.
Sophia is dead.
“You son of a bitch!” Eric swears before he launches himself at the vampire. I’m right.
behind him, my own heart thumping in anger.
Sophia was his girlfriend. The person who was trying to keep his murderous tendencies al secret, and how does he thank her? By killing her!
“You asshole!” I scream as I jump onto the vampire’s back.
He lets go of Sophia’s neck, and her unconscious body thumps down on the floor.
As soon as Sophia is out of the way, Charlie’s hands are free to attack me. He hisses and tries to claw at me, but I easily dodge out of the way. I’m not as agile in my human form, but I’m not alone–Eric attacks Charlie next.
The vampire tries to fight back by punching and kicking at Eric, but Eric easily avoids his attacks. Charlie isn’t having much success at attacking us, which is good, but like all newly turned vampires, he is fast.
But so is my hybrid mate. Eric slams Charlie into the wall, and I quickly jump over the vampire, pressing my paws and claws into his chest to keep him from moving. A growl leaves my mouth, and Eric pats my head.
“Good girl,” he says. “We got him good. Now we just need to take him back to the pack.”
I step away, trusting Eric to hold down Charlie on his own. But the vampire still got some fight left in him. “I’m not going anywhere with the likes of you! Release me!” he shouts. “Stop holding me, you idiot!”
Eric growls and tries to grapple the vampire again, but Charlie kicks out with his foot and
breaks Eric’s nose.
“You bastard!” Eric cries, pressing a hand to his face.
I rush forward and sink my teeth into the vampire’s shoulder, causing him to howl in pain. and anger. I can feel his blood spilling into my mouth, and I force myself to clamp my jaws. down tighter. Charlie’s body slumps, and he starts to change back into his human form, grunting in pain.
His fangs are gone, and I pull my head back. I look up at Eric, who is still holding onto his nose. Since I’m in my wolf form, I can’t speak, but I try to send a thought, ‘Are you okay?‘
“I’m fine,” he says. “Thank you for preventing this fucker from leaving. I can’t believe he
kicked me!”
I change back into a human when Eric grabs Charlie’s arms again and chuckles. “You underestimated him. The murderer doesn’t want to be punished.”
“I’m not a murderer!” Charlie argues.
Eric snorts. “Really? You really think we are going to believe that when you just killed your
own girlfriend in front of us, huh? You’re a mess, kid, and neither Sophia nor Emily
deserved to die by your filthy hands.”
Instead of fighting, Charlie hangs his head. “You’re right. They were too good for me.”
“Good enough for you to kill them?” I question.
I
“I’m sorry,” Charlie cries. “I’m so sorry.”
“Imagine how sorry you’ll be when the pack tears you apart,” Eric says. “Because that’s your fate.”
He wiggles in Eric’s arms. “Let me go! I’ll die before I let you people hurt me.”
“Well, you’re out of luck.” Eric’s eyes glow red, and his fangs descend from his gums.
“Oh god, no! I don’t want to die! I don’t!”
“Tough luck, kid,” Eric says. “Because I don’t think there is any other punishment for you,” he glances at me. “Or wouldn’t you agree, Luna Five?”
