Chapter My Troubles 68
Chapter 68
Nydia thought to herself, "What does that make me then? A nobody?"
This was frustrating.
Nydia said, "I'll have to thank you again."
Eddie replied, "You helped Max, so I'll help you. We're even. No need to take me."
He always kept it short and to the point.
Nydia sighed. "Mr. Houle, are you afraid I'll use this favor to cling to you?"
Eddie stopped walking for a moment. "Would you?"
"Huh?" She nearly bumped into him.
He lowered his gaze to her, who was rubbing her forehead. The pale face that had looked ghostly earlier now had some color.
Her dark, slightly curly hair was tousled and hung loosely behind her. With her comical expression, she looked... like a carefree, funny character straight out of a cartoon. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
Even though it was just a small smile, it was enough to shock his bodyguards and Wayne
nearby.
"Would you cling to me just for this favor?"
Nydia didn't expect him to take her seriously. She was a bit surprised, but quickly responded, "Well, that depends on whether your offer is good enough."
With enough money, anything could be negotiated.
Eddie's smile deepened. "Mm."
And then, he turned and walked away.
Nydia stood there waiting for him to say something more, but he simply walked off. She could only follow him, escorting him out herself.
After watching Eddie and Norman leave, she turned back toward the hospital and was met by her colleague, Regina Silva.
"Nydia, I'm so glad you're okay," Regina said. She was Nydia's college classmate, and the two had always been close. Nydia smiled faintly. "Just lucky."
Regina pulled her aside to a quieter spot and lowered her voice. "Earlier, Maisie set you up,
Chedor on.
and her surgery has already been done. She's in the ward now, and you're her attending physician."
Nydia blinked in confusion. "What?"
She understood the words, but when she put them together, they didn't make sense.
"The fire sprinklers malfunctioned, and everyone was scrambling to get out. Someone stepped on Maisie's leg, and it fractured."
Nydia still didn't quite get it. "Shouldn't she be in an orthopedic ward, then?"
Regina sighed.
"Aside from the fracture, she also has several external injuries. Those were caused by the shoving and pushing from the patients' families. Our department needs to consult with surgery for her case." Regina hesitated for a moment, then clenched her teeth. "Well, karma came for her. She's already been fired, and now she's in your care. I bet she'll be living in constant fear from now
on."
Nydia quickly pieced it together. It seemed like the surgical department deliberately made this adjustment, allowing her to "settle the score".
"Perfect. When I'm back for my shift this afternoon, I'll make sure to pay a visit to my former colleague."
Regina chuckled. "Just don't push it too far. Even though she's been fired, Maisie knows the hospital's complaint procedures inside out. Don't give her any leverage." "Got it, Regina. I'll be careful."
Shortly after, Nydia returned to the ward. As expected, she found Maisie, fresh out of the operating room.
"N-No way! I demand a different doctor!" Maisie's pupils dilated in terror the moment she saw Nydia. Her heart felt like it might explode from fear.
Nydia gave a low chuckle. "Go ahead, scream all you want. Even if you scream your lungs out, no one will listen to you."
Maisie was speechless. Tears instantly welled up in her eyes as she began to sob uncontrollably.
"Dr. Vega, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn't have been jealous of you. I shouldn't have let Mona's manipulations cloud my judgment. Please, have mercy on me. Let it go." Nydia's expression turned cold. "What are you talking about? Are you saying your grudge against me was because of Mona?"
Maisie's tears poured out as she stammered, "Yes, it was her. She promised me so many
benefits. 1-1 fell for it... And back then, when I asked you about the details of your paper, you didn't answer me. I got angry and..." Chapter 69
