Chapter My Troubles 65
Chapter 65
The revelation landed like a bombshell. Previously, the media had speculated that someone. might be targeting Homer, the nation's prized medical expert. But no one believed it.
After all, carrying out such a sinister plan would require significant resources, including time, money, and manpower. Yet now, the horrifying thith was undeniable.
If it weren't for Nydia's uncanny insight, their plan would have already succeeded. Because of their failure, they were now acting out of spite.
Just as the team was about to celebrate their success, the hackers launched another attack, shutting down the hospital's power systems and threatening to turn the hospital into chaos. Nydia clenched her fists tightly, her expression cold and composed, even as her heart pounded violently.
Suddenly, a small hand grabbed hers.
The dark tension in her chest dissipated as she looked down to see Norman holding her hand.
Following Norman's pointed glance, she turned her gaze toward Eddie.
At some point, Eddie had seated himself in the corner, a sleek laptop balanced on his knees. His long, deft fingers moved fluidly over the keyboard, their precision mesmerizing. Norman smiled and whispered reassuringly, "Uncle Eddie's amazing. Don't worry, Ms. Vega. Uncle.... No, we'll protect you."
He even threw in a playful thumbs-up, trying to cheer her up.
Nydia's tense nerves eased a little. She trusted that the hospital had already implemented countermeasures, but this situation directly involved her. She couldn't help but remain on edge.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside.
"Where is Nydia? Tell her to get to the hospital entrance and kneel!"
"The oxygen supply has stopped working. My father can't breathe. Get her out here now!"
"Where is Nydia? I'll bow to her if I have to-she just needs to sacrifice herself. Kneeling isn't that hard, is it?"
"If anything happens to my wife or child, I'll make sure Nydia pays for it."
Maisie, who was about to head home to rest, suddenly appeared among the enraged crowd. She instantly understood what was happening and couldn't help but feel a sense of triumph. It seemed fate had finally smiled upon her. For awhile, she had believed the gap between her
and Nydia was insurmountable. But now, the perfect opportunity had landed right in her
hands.
"Let me check if she's hiding in this ICU," Maisie said.
The crowd's attitude softened the moment they saw Nydia in her white coat addressing them.
Maisie glanced at the door to the ICU.
"Nydia, are you in there? I know you're in there. You must have heard what's going on. The patients' families are pressuring the hospital. So many innocent lives are at stake-can you really turn a blind eye to them?"
Inside, Nydia had already devised a plan to calm the families. Now, with Maisie's interference, her strategy seemed impossible to implement.
Homer was stable, and Buck had calmed down, shifting to her side out of gratitude for saving his grandfather's life.
"Guilt tripping? Who is this woman? I'll take care of her myself!" Buck growled.
Nydia pressed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. Truthfully, she didn't understand what grudge Maisie held against her. Maisie always seemed to target her, relentlessly seeking every opportunity to bring her down. Before Nydia could respond, more voices rang out from outside.
"Nydia, come out! I'll kneel if that's what it takes. Don't you care about the patients' lives?"
"See? Kneeling is nothing. Just give up a little pride, would you?"
Buck couldn't hold back his anger. "That woman is so damn vile. I'm going out there to shut her up!"
Nydia caught his arm before he could move. "If you open that door, they'll all rush in. That's dangerous for Mr. Barton Senior."
What had started as a small group of seven or eight people had now grown into a crowd of dozens, thanks to Maisie's instigation.
If not for the heavy-duty ICU doors, they might have already been forced open.
"Are we just going to let her smear your name like this? If this continues, you won't be seen as a healer. They'll paint you as a monster who lets people die!"
Nydia's gaze sharpened as she looked at the mob outside, her usually calm features now tense with anger. Just as she prepared to step outside, a hand caught her sleeve.
She turned sharply, startled. Eddie kept one hand on the keyboard while using the other to grip her firmly.
"You said to trust," he reminded her, his voice steady.
