Chapter My Troubles 63
Chapter

Maisie's eyes widened in shock.
"You... You knew..." she stammered.
Nydia nodded. "You shouldn't have done it if you don't want others to know. Go to the branch. hospital and try to be a better person."
Maisie's wrongdoings were exposed, and her face flushed with embarrassment. She couldn't bear to stay any longer and quickly ran out of the room.
At that moment, news of Nydia assisting with Homer's surgery spread throughout the hospital. As she was running, she overheard people discussing the brilliant doctor, Nydia.
At that moment, she truly realized how far behind she was compared to Nydia. Feeling overwhelmed, she broke down in tears.
Nydia had just finished checking on her patients and was adjusting medication when she received a call from an unknown number.
"Nydia, it's me." Mick's voice came through the phone. His voice was raspy as if he had been screaming all night.
Nydia was about to hang up when he continued. "Your books and models are still at my place."
Her hand faltered. The books had her notes in them, and in the rush to leave, she had forgotten to take them.
The human anatomy models were things she had spent several sleepless nights creating. They held significant meaning for her.
She had planned to go back and collect them after the cooling-off period. To Mick, they weren't worth much, and getting them back would be easy.
""What do you want?"
She gripped the phone tighter, her heart racing. "We're married. Your things are also mine. I'll burn my half. That's fair, right?"
"Mick!"
Mick sneered, "You care about these worthless things."
"What do you want?"
"If you want them, come get them yourself. I'll give you three days. After that, I'll dispose of them."
This time, Mick did as he had before-he hung up on her..
Nydia stared at her phone, her anger so intense that it almost felt like it would burn through the screen. Mick had given her two million dollars. It was obvious he expected her to pay it back. She thought, "What a petty man!"
She regretted ever going through so much trouble to help him regain his sight. But at least she had three days to come up with a plan.
"Ms. Vega!"
She was lost in thought when she heard a familiar little voice. She instinctively turned toward the sound. Norman stood in the doorway of the office, waving at her.
"Surprised to see me?"
Nydia quickly stepped out, smiling. "Of course, I'm surprised. What are you doing here?"
"Uncle Eddie is visiting Mr. Barton Senior, so I came to see you. See? I'm the one who missed you the most."
Nydia couldn't help but laugh. He had initially planned to have Norman stay in the office with her so she could write up case notes, but then she remembered that Homer was the patient, and she needed to take care of him. With Eddie visiting Homer, she would likely be called to the scene as well.
"Let's go see him." She tapped Norman on the forehead and grabbed his hand, leading him
out.
Norman didn't mind. As long as he was with her, he was happy to go anywhere.
However, as they walked through the hospital, Nydia noticed that people seemed to treat her with much more respect than before. Even those who had competed against her for the title of best doctor in the hospital last year were being particularly polite. What she didn't know was that after she passed by, the staff gathered together.
"Dr. Vega is impressive."
"Not really. A few years ago, her surgery success rate was 100%."
"Who is that kid?"
"Probably her son. Her profile says she's married, but I've never seen her husband."
