Chapter My Troubles 32

Eddie had led Nydia away that day at the amusement park.
Though Nelson had witnessed it firsthand, the entire incident seemed so bizarre that it was only natural for him to want clarification.
"Oh. That was just an accident," she replied. She had no intention of exposing her relationship
with Eddie.
Eddie was such an unpredictable man. Though he'd promised her safety, she couldn't be sure how long his words would last. So she decided it was best not to stir up unnecessary complications.
"I was honestly terrified. That's why I left with Norman. You're not upset, are you?" Nydia asked.
Nelson countered with a question. "Does it seem like I'm upset?"
"No, not at all. You've always been the good-tempered one."
Nelson brushed it off, saying, "Anyway, I came here today just to warn you about something." "Oh?" Sh
She looked at him with curiosity. Her eyes gleamed with attentiveness as she waited to hear every word he said.
Nelson's heart skipped a beat. Then, he continued, "That day, I noticed you seem to know Mr. Houle. He's a violent man, and it's better for ordinary people like us to stay away from him."
Nydia nodded in agreement, elaborating, "To be honest, my focus now is solely on completing my report from my trip abroad. I'm hoping to win Mr. Neel's approval as soon as possible." Nelson instantly understood what she was implying. "Are you aiming for a promotion?"
She thought about the two million she'd negotiated for during the divorce. Though it seemed like a large sum, her overseas trip showed her how quickly the money could be used up. She needed a solid career. "That's right. I wish I could become an attending physician right now."
Nelson patted her shoulder with encouragement. "If you have time now, you should practice your surgical skills. It'd be a great preparation for the upcoming practical contest."
Once Nydia's computer finally shut down, she grabbed her bag. "Let's go. I have some techniques I've been meaning to ask you about. Don't complain that I'm bothering you." Nelson joked, "Only if you pay the tuition fees."
"How much per hour?" Nydia asked with mock seriousness.

"Maybe I'll charge based on the student's performance."
""Wow, you're generous.
"As always."
The two walked out side by side in lighthearted conversations. They seemed like a matched. pair, and the nearby medical staff wondered if they were about to develop into something more." However, just as they exited the inpatient department, they were stopped.
"Ms. Poole?" Nydia looked up in surprise at Mona who'd stepped into her path and extended a hand to block her way. Mona's face was livid with anger, and her eyes practically shot sparks. Though Mona had yet to say anything, her hostility was unpleasant.
"Did you just buy the road? Oh wait, are you filming a scene? Are you playing the role of a watchdog today?" Nydia sneered.
Mona was already seething with anger and exploded at the taunt. She raised her hand and was about to slap Nydia, but Nelson caught her wrist mid-air.
"You're a public figure, Ms. Poole. Make sure you don't ruin your image." Nelson was usually gentle but now had a stern expression.
His words drew curious glances from the surrounding crowd, and Mona was forced to lower her hand in resentment. She warned, "I'm here to deal with Nydia, Dr. McBride. Stay out of it!"
Nelson protectively stepped in front of Nydia. "This is a hospital. If you think you can bully my junior while I stand by, think again."
Mona noticed how firm he was and let out a cold laugh. "So protective of her huh? Do you like
her?"
"Don't project your sordid thoughts onto others! Nelson snapped.
Mona pointed a seething finger at Nydia. "Sordid? She's the one talking about getting a divorce, yet she clings to Mick and now feigns innocence with you! Tell me, who's the one with sordid thoughts here!" Nelson's face darkened. His gaze turned sharp.
But Nydia laughed in disbelief. "Cling to Mick? Is that what he told you?"
