Chapter 3036
When the bus driver started driving, there were only a handful of passengers on the bus, but more got on along the journey.
In the end, the bus was packed.
Mostly simple and honest-looking local farmers were on the bus.
Although the place was remote, the locals led peaceful lives. Right when Nathan and the others were thinking about that, a few men dressed as commoners got on the bus.
They seemed to belong to some kind of religious organization and immediately caught Nathan's and the others' eyes.
Their leader was a bald, enormous man.
He had a vicious-looking face, but he pretended to look kind and religious.
He started handing out cards to people on the bus as he introduced himself. "Hello, folks. I'm Nigel Yackley from the Oracles of Humility on Rostrie Hill. I'm Wrigley Giles' first disciple. We are here to spread the word and let you know of our existence. We can point you in the right direction and dispel misfortune."
Upon hearing that, the passengers started discussing among themselves.
"Oh, so they're from the Oracles of Humility. I heard that their prayers do come true there. There was a crippled man in my village. His wife could not get pregnant for ten years, so he went to Rostrie Hill to ask Wrigley for help. His wife stayed on Rostrie Hill for three whole days and prayed earnestly. After three days, his wife came back and soon became pregnant."
Everyone started expressing their amazement when they heard that, thinking that Wrigley must be very powerful to be able to make a supposedly infertile woman pregnant.
Upon hearing everyone's comments, Nigel and the others could not help but flash indiscernible wicked smiles.
Haha. This is nothing. My mentor can let the man's wife become pregnant. I can do it too.
Nigel continued to give the people on the bus his cards while introducing himself as Wrigley's first disciple. He welcomed everyone to find him if they had any unusual and complex illnesses or questions about geomancy and assured them that he would see to every request.
When he passed by Nathan's side and passed him a card, he glanced at Penny, who was seated at the side. His eyes widened, and he blurted out, "What a pretty wife you have there!" Penny could not help but furrow her brows.
She was dressed the same as Nathan that day. They looked no different from the villagers, with their simple and cheap clothing.
However, she was too beautiful. Even a simple shirt could not hide her beauty.
Nigel had lost his composure the moment he laid his eyes on her.
Noticing that Nathan and Penny seemed displeased by his comment, he immediately collected himself and put on his virtuous act again.
He glanced at Nathan and Penny with a grim expression and said in a serious manner, "You guys are probably traveling to the city from the village to visit the hospital, aren't you?" He noticed Penny's swollen belly. It was obvious she was pregnant.
Then he deduced that Nathan and Penny were from the village because of their simple and shabby clothes.
This young villager must be bringing his pregnant wife for a check-up at the hospital.
Penny was known as the goddess in the business world. She had already seen through these charlatans with her intelligence and did not want to bother with them!
A glint of imperceptible amusement
flitted across Nathan's eyes. He, too, knew that the people in front of him were charlatans. He wanted to fool around with them and, at the same time, find out more about the Oracles of Humility.
He would not mind eliminating a cult if it caused harm to the people.
Pretending to be a simple,
down-to-earth youth and scratching the back of his head, he asked curiously, "How do you know we're from the village, mister? Also, how do you know I'm accompanying my wife to the hospital?"
The villagers looked at Nigel and the others inquisitively. That's right. How do they know that? Do they have divine abilities?
Nigel looked at Nathan's simple and honest appearance and sneered inwardly. You're just the type of person I'm trying to fool. If your wife isn't pretty, I won't even bother with you!
He put up one of his hands and replied, "It's the heavens."
Then, he added with a stern
expression, "Don't call me 'Mister.' You can call me Mr. Yackley. Not only do I know you're accompanying your wife to the hospital, but I also know that your wife is haunted by something evil. It must be destiny that we cross paths today If you want, I can get rid of it for her."
