Reborn Through Fire

Chapter 1430

Chapter 1430 The Prelude to the Storm
Sharon chimed in from the side.
“It is not impossible. That woman always likes to flaunt herself.”
She laughed sarcastically and turned to Adrien. “Uncle Adrien, my mom divorced my dad solely for you this time, and we even
offered our sincere gift of The Case Group’s shares as a dowry for You’d better give my mom a proper title soon.”
Carolyn pouted and whined, “Yeah, if you don’t marry me soon, I will become a laughingstock.”
Adrien smiled, his lips curling up. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you down.” But his eyes had a hint of coldness. “After I take a trip to
Oceanville, I will give you a wedding of the century.”
His passionate promise was like poppy, causing countless women to be mesmerized and lost in a dreamy haze. Carolyn was
immediately enchanted, her face full of sweetness, forgetting all about questioning Adrien about Kisa.
Since returning to the Kooper residence, Kisa had been sleeping restlessly. Although nothing had happened, everything seemed
too calm, and she had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. It was like the calm before a storm.
These few days, she had been especially sleepy, waiting for the man to return to the room every night but always falling asleep
before he arrived. When she woke up in the morning, the space beside her was empty, and she was not sure if he had returned.
Another night, Kisa woke up from a nightmare. She instinctively reached for Gilbert, but the space beside her was empty. He had
not come back. A gust of cold wind blew in, and she shivered, unable to sleep.
She turned on the bedside lamp and checked the time. It was already past midnight. The window was not closed tightly, and the
cold wind kept rushing in. Kisa put on a thick robe and got up to close the window. When she looked outside, she realized it was
already snowing. She hated rain, but for some reason she liked snow. She reached out to catch the snowflakes, but they melted
as soon as they landed on her palm.
The snow had come early this year. The tiny snowflakes danced in the night sky, creating an ethereal scene.
As she lowered her gaze for a moment, she caught sight of two figures downstairs. Upon closer look, she realized it was none
other than Gilbert and Christopher. Gilbert stood tall, cigarette in hand, smoke swirling around his wrist. Since he was facing
away from her, she could not see his facial expressions clearly.

Christopher had aged significantly since she last saw him before her departure to Athadale. Maybe it was the divorce from
Carolyn that had taken its toll on him. Kisa had heard about Christopher’s divorce from Carolyn. Apparently, Carolyn had sent a
woman to Christopher’s bed to catch him in the act and put on a show for the media to get a bigger share of his assets.
Watching Christopher looking dejected and distressed below made Kisa feel a mix of emotions. Her sadness was only due to the
irremovable blood relationship she had with Christopher. It would be much better without that blood relationship.
“Mr. Kooper, please, for Kisa’s sake, can you help me get The Case Group back?”
Most of The Case Group’s shares had ended up in Adrien’s hands, and he had quickly acquired the company. Christopher could
not even put up a fight. The company’s name had even been changed under Adrien’s ownership. Although Adrien had allowed
him to remain in the company, he had no real power left. He felt regret and resentment and had even reached out to his daughter
Sharon, but she had turned him away, calling him a weak and useless father.
In the end, he could only come to Kisa for help.
Gilbert puffed smoke rings, his tone nonchalant, “Sorry, I can’t help you.”
“How can you not help? You are so capable, you...” Christopher’s eyes suddenly fixated behind Gilbert.
