Chapter 238
Scott was standing at the door in his immaculate suit, his jacket draped over his arm as his other hand laid casually on the handle of his suitcase. He stared intently at her, but she could not make out his
expression.
For some reason, she could not help feeling he was different than before.
The two of them had been married for three years. Although Scott would inform her every time he needed to go on a business trip, he would never notify her how long she would be gone, nor would he bother to bid her farewell.
Naomi was a little stunned by this. She did not expect to hear him say any of this.
Although she did not respond, Scott continued, "Call me if you need anything. If you can't get in touch with me somehow, try Dylan."
Naomi finally understood; he was just worried about the project, that was all. He had tagged along with them for the past few days because he wanted to know the project's progress. According to Dylan, Scott had invested a lot of money in his project, so of course, he wanted it to run as smoothly as possible.
Naomi nodded. "Okay."
That was not the reaction he had expected, but Scott did not comment on it. Instead, he stared at her for a few more moments before finally turning and leaving.
The moment the door closed behind him, Naomi felt the entire room fall silent. She instinctively let out a sigh of relief, finally feeling as though a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
Since they had already divorced, they should avoid interacting with each other the best that they could.
Scott's driver was waiting for him. He put his suitcase in the trunk while Scott slid into the backseat. The driver pulled away from the hotel and headed to the airport.
It was already close to midnight then, so the streets were mostly empty. The car sailed smoothly along the freeway, the buildings outside zipping past like a scene from a movie. Scott turned on the overhead light and took out a small package from his pocket.
It was the purse he had bought earlier. This purse, with its intricate orchid pattern, had caught his eye immediately. He took it out of its packaging and stared at it lovingly for a few moments.
Although he and Naomi had been married for three years, neither of them had ever gifted the other anything.
Neither of them was particularly romantic, so gift-giving did not come naturally to them.
However, when he noticed her picking out the purses, he had a sudden urge to get something from her, a gift of sorts.
That was why he picked out the purse and let her pay for it.
He grazed his finger along the stitching as though caressing it. After a long time, he lifted his head and stared out the window at the night sky.
After Scott left, Naomi hopped into the shower and got ready for bed. Like always, she quickly dozed off.
The night got more peaceful as it went on. The only thing that seemed to be alive were the beautiful stars twinkling in the night sky.
The next morning, Naomi woke up of her own accord and got ready before heading out for breakfast. She always used to do it with Scott. However, she had not felt lonely with Scott gone.
She made her way to the exhibition site as soon as she finished breakfast. They were supposed to check out the project site and ensure it was fine before commencing the project, which would take a week to finalize.
The exhibition site was right across the riverbank of Le Soleil, nestled right across from the old city gates and the museum they had visited earlier on in the trip. It was Naomi's first time there. In fact, she was there earlier than everyone else. She had deliberately done so because she wanted to check out the place for herself before everyone else arrived.
