Chapter 32
Andrew’s words hung in the air as he casually tossed his towel at Elizabeth. His despicable attitude reminded her of the school bullies who used to torment the girls they fancied, a mixture of aggression and unruliness.
Elizabeth clenched her teeth and resentfully removed the towel that had nearly obstructed her view. She walked up to Andrew, tiptoed, and wiped the sweat off his face.
As she looked at him up close, she could not help but admit that God truly favored him. He had been bestowed with a privileged upbringing and a perfect physique.
Unfortunately, his sour expression made it unbearable to linger on his face for even a moment. Had he been a bit more amiable, she might have gazed at his face for a long while. After all, his features were simply flawless.
With this thought in mind, Elizabeth pursed her lips and quickened her hand’s movements.
Andrew narrowed his sharp, eagle–like eyes and looked down at the woman standing before him, who barely reached his chest. The expression on his face was inscrutable.
“Done. Mr. Andrew, are you satisfied?”
Elizabeth withdrew her hand and respectfully looked up at him, a forced smile adorning her lovely face.
Since she still did not know how long she would have to tolerate his second personality, she had to adjust her mindset. She needed to be adaptable, striving to build a good relationship with him, or else her days in the Hayes family would be
difficult.
Andrew did not respond but walked past her and headed for the bathroom upstairs.
Just then, Elizabeth’s phone, tucked in her pocket, suddenly rang.
She took it out and saw that it was a call from Kaida.
At the sight of that name, memories of the events that had unfolded in the Clarke family resurfaced, and a hint of impatience flickered in Elizabeth’s amber eyes.
She had initially thought of hanging up immediately, but remembering what Kaida had mentioned yesterday and the lack of news from her mother, she reluctantly pressed the answer button after much hesitation.
“You finally decided to answer the call.”
Kaida’s voice came through the receiver, elegant in tone but marred by an underlying strangeness.
“What’s the matter? Just get to the point.”
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. She had no interest in engaging in a pointless conversation.
“About the matter we talked about yesterday, have you made your decision?”
“Didn’t you already get your answer yesterday? So why bother calling again today to humiliate yourself?”
Elizabeth let out a cold laugh, wondering when Kaida had become so oblivious to the situation.
“Very well, Elizabeth. Let me formally inform you that if you don’t divorce Andrew, then be prepared for your mother’s funeral!” Kaida tore off the last shred of pretense and spitefully threatened.
Upon hearing those words, Elizabeth’s face turned pale, and her hand holding the phone trembled involuntarily.
“Kaida! Do you really know where my mother is?”
This news hit her like a thunderbolt, exploding in Elizabeth’s mind. She could not bear it and took several steps back in
retreat.
“I never do things without assurance. If you continue to be stubborn and reckless, the next time you see her, it will be your mother’s lifeless body!”
With that, Kaida did not allow Elizabeth to respond and abruptly hung up the phone.
Elizabeth stood there dazed, feeling as if invisible hands were squeezing her throat tightly. The suffocating sense of panic overwhelmed her uncontrollably, causing her limbs to turn icy cold.
Coincidentally, Andrew had just finished changing clothes and was about to leave for work. Seeing her distressed. appearance, his handsome eyebrows furrowed.
“What’s wrong with you?”
Andrew’s deep voice, resonating like a cello, snapped her out of her panic. She looked up at the man before her with urgency in her eyes, then walked toward him and grasped his wrist as if holding a lifeline.
“Andrew, I beg you, please help me. My stepmother is threatening me, intending harm to my mother!”
Chapter 32
Although she was facing his second personality, she had no other choice. If she did not seek his help, she did not know who she could turn to. Andrew was the only one who could help her right now.
Upon hearing this, a glint of menacing darkness flickered in Andrew’s pitch–black, deep eyes.
He was a man of dominance, with a firm grip on those he claimed as his own. No one dared to cross him, especially when it came to the women in his life. To him, any person who would mistreat a woman under his watchful gaze lacked respect for him, and this was something he could never overlook. He would not let people who dared to do that off the hook casily.
“What exactly happened? Tell me everything in detail!” he said urgently.
At the same time, he instructed the chauffeur outside to prepare the car. Elizabeth hurriedly followed suit and, inside the vehicle, revealed how Kaida had manipulated her by exploiting David’s illness to trick her into returning home, how Kaida repeatedly threatened her to divorce, and even how she used her mother’s illness as leverage.
As Andrew sat beside her, listening to Elizabeth’s account, his already gloomy face took on an icy chill that could almost freeze people. This man’s countenance would send shivers down the spine of anyone who beheld it. One could easily discern from his countenance that he had devised thousands of ways to punish those who dared to bully Elizabeth.
“They are bullying you, which means they’re humiliating me. I will make sure justice is served for you!”
He spoke, raising his finely–shaped eyebrows. His large and slender hand, seemingly lazy in its movements, emitted a crisp sound, sending shivers down one’s spine. No one dared to provoke him after seeing his current expression.
Elizabeth gazed steadily at the man beside her, feeling her previously frantic heart gradually calm.
Now she felt that Andrew’s second personality was not so difficult to get along with after all.
After about 20 minutes, the black Maybach came to a steady stop at the entrance of the Clarke family estate.
Katherine heard the car and hurriedly ran out from inside.
“Elizabeth, you couldn’t sit still anymore, huh? So, have you come up with a divorce agreement to make amends…”
She proudly began her sentence but immediately fell silent upon seeing Andrew’s tall figure, a hint of panic appearing on her beautiful face..
“Andrew, why are you here?”
She quickly reached up to push her disheveled bangs behind her ears, then struck what she believed to be the perfect pose, batting her big eyes flirtatiously at Andrew.
However, Andrew did not even spare her a glance. Instead, he turned around, forcefully pulling Elizabeth, who was following behind him, into his embrace, and then strode past Katherine, heading toward the inner courtyard.
Once again, Katherine was met with cold indifference, causing her to stomp her foot in anger.
Katherine could not understand why Andrew kept protecting Elizabeth time and time again. In her view, Elizabeth was just a useless and worthless loser.
The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. Finally, she gritted her teeth and followed closely behind them, entering the grand hall.
At that moment, Kaida and David had just finished breakfast. David sat there reading the newspaper while Kaida stood behind him, giving him a massage. They appeared harmonious and in sync.
“Mother…”
Upon hearing Katherine’s voice, Kaida quickly looked up. Before the smile on her face could fully bloom, she saw Andrew and Elizabeth.
“I heard that you threatened Elizabeth to divorce me?” Andrew smirked, cutting straight to the chase.
Kaida’s face froze. She had not expected Elizabeth to immediately run to Andrew and complain, catching her off guard.
