Chapter 27
Chapter 27
As soon as Elizabeth arrived at the living room, she saw David, Kaida, and Katherine sitting on the sofa, drinking tea with pleasant expressions.
When they said something funny, Katherine smiled and threw herself into David’s arms while David looked affectionately at his young daughter in his arms.
His face was radiant. Where was there a hint of illness?
Upon seeing this scene, Elizabeth’s heart shattered.
She was deceived again.
Thinking of this, she got a sarcastic expression on her face.
After a pause, she clenched her palm and strode toward them.
“Go ahead. What’s the purpose of you scamming me?”
“Liz, it’s nice to meet you again. Come here and sit down.”
David paused when he saw her. Then he reached out to her and asked her to go over.
But Elizabeth didn’t have the mood to pretend to be intimate with him.
Moreover, she had no intention of playing along with her annoying stepmother and stepsister.”
“There’s no need to sit down. Just explain the reason you tricked me.”
Elizabeth stood straight in the center of the hall and looked at the three of them with a cold gaze. “Dad, are you not afraid of retribution for telling so many lies?”
She didn’t mean to curse David. But she was too disappointed with him. If she didn’t express her sadness and anger with these words, her heart would only break even more.
Upon hearing this, David’s face darkened. He had initially felt a little guilty about this daughter, but now her words completely dispelled this idea.
“You…
David couldn’t believe she had said such a wicked thing. He reached out and pointed at Elizabeth. He was so angry that he couldn’t say a complete sentence for a moment.
“Elizabeth, Dad is still sick. How could you say such malicious words to him? It’s awful.”
On the side, Katherine saw the situation and quickly began to fan the flames.
But David always believed her. The more she said, the angrier David became,
After coughing heavily, he reached out and patted his chest. Moreover, his face began to turn red due to a severe cough.
“Hurry up! Call the family doctor over. Cali, help Mr. Clarke to rest in the bedroom,” Kaida said to the servants.
Kaida skillfully helped David calm his breathing. Then she took out a pill and fed it to David’s mouth. After this, she gave him a sip of water and instructed the servant to help him to the bedroom.
In an instant, only Kaida, Katherine, and Elizabeth were left in the vast living room.
“My dear stepmother, you are good at playing tricks.”
After all the twists and turns, Elizabeth finally saw the situation. It wasn’t David who wanted her back, but Kaida.
However, it remained to be seen what her purpose was.
“You are smart. I’ll just put it bluntly. I want to make a deal with you.”
Kaida sat on the sofa. Her well–maintained face exuded an elegant smile, making her look very approachable.
Only Elizabeth knew how malicious a heart was hidden beneath Kaida’s beautiful
appearance.
“What kind of deal?”
Elizabeth leaned against the stone pillar in the living room with interest, wondering what tricks Kaida and Katherine would play.
“As long as you agree to divorce Andrew, I will tell you the whereabouts of your biological mother.”
Kaida proposed the deal condition.
Upon hearing this, Elizabeth’s eyes widened in amazement. Kaida said that she would tell her about her mother’s whereabouts rather than the truth about her death.
Chapter 27
Did this mean that her mother was not dead, just missing?
“How about the condition? Isn’t it what you’ve always wanted to know? As long as you divorce Andrew, you can get news about your mother.”
Seeing that Elizabeth had been silent, Katherine hurriedly urged her to answer with anxiety.
After a pause, Elizabeth regained consciousness. She gritted her teeth, digesting the news that her mother had not passed away, and then tried to force herself to calm down.
“I won’t get divorced. How could I know if your words are true or false?”
Even if the information revealed by Kaida was true, she didn’t want to cooperate with her.
Kaida was a person with a lot of bad intentions. So Elizabeth had to prevent herself from being deceived by her.
She intended to rely on herself to investigate her mother’s whereabouts.
“I am one of the people who knew of your mother’s illness back then. If you miss this opportunity, I don’t know if you will have a chance to see your mother again in your life.”
Kaida’s words poked Elizabeth’s soft spot. She tried to make Elizabeth yield in this way
If Elizabeth had heard these words before, she would have been so anxious that she would have agreed immediately.
But now, after so many years of struggling abroad and going through so many storms, she had already been invulnerable. So how could she agree to divorce just because of Kaida’s words?
“Don’t repeat these meaningless words. All I know is that I am in love with Andrew now, and I won’t divorce him. So don’t. even think about it.”
After speaking, Elizabeth coldly glanced at Kaida and Katherine, sitting on the sofa. Then she turned around to leave without
mercy.
Hearing her words, Katherine anxiously grabbed Kaida’s hand.
“Mom, what should we do? She doesn’t agree to the divorce. Is there any other way?”
“Don’t worry. I will help you get everything you want,” Kaida said to Katherine.
Kaida was also angry. However, she experienced more than Katherine. So she was still relatively calm.
Since this plan didn’t work, she would find another way. She believed it was easy for her to deal with a young girl.
After Elizabeth ran out of the house, she remembered that she had already sent the driver away.
This was an affluent area with few people and cars. So it was difficult for her to get a cab. It seemed that she could only walk downtown to take a taxi.
Just as she sighed, a black Maybach stopped steadily beside her.
The car window slowly rolled down, and Andrew’s handsome face instantly caught her eye.
“Get in.” Andrew said to Elizabeth.
Andrew looked fixedly at the woman before him, still worried about her meeting with Henry this morning-
When he heard from the driver that she had returned to the Clarke’s house alone, he still drove over to find her after careful consideration.
Kaida was a difficult person to deal with.
Even though he was angry, it was his responsibility to go over to help her keep up appearances.
“Thank you,” Elizabeth said to Andrew.
She opened the car door and sat down next to Andrew.
She was feeling a bit down and wasn’t in the mood to ask why Andrew had appeared there.
