Chapter 21
In the evening, Elizabeth was in the study reading a book on psychology, studying Andrew’s condition as she went along.
The study door opened, and Andrew walked in from outside with a long stride.
After a long day of work, he had a slight weariness between his eyebrows. But it made his handsome face form a unique lazy look.
“Change your clothes. We’ll go to Grandpa’s house for dinner later.”
“Going there for dinner again?”
Elizabeth put down the book in her hand. She was a little reluctant to go to the Hayes family residence.
It was fine that she had to pretend that she and Andrew were in love in front of Benjamin, but if they ran into that disgusting guy Henry, it would be a nightmare for her. She didn’t think she could communicate with Henry.
As if reading Elizabeth’s thoughts at the moment, Andrew subconsciously frowned his handsomely sharp brow.
“It’s just me and you and Grandpa. Henry’s not there.”
“Oh, okay. Wait for me then. I’ll go change my clothes.”
Elizabeth nodded and was about to stand up.
“Why are you so afraid to see Henry? Didn’t you say you were just simple alumni?”
When Andrew asked that, there was a complex emotion in his tone that even he himself did not notice.
With Elizabeth avoiding Henry and the ambiguity Henry showed toward her, intentionally or unintentionally, Andrew felt that his heart was tightly clutched by a pair of invisible hands. That uncomfortable feeling made him very unsatisfied.
“I don’t like him. Is there any problem? And the relationship between you two now is particularly strange. As your nominal wife, I must be on the same side as you.”
Elizabeth’s eyes flashed an imperceptible emotion, but she quickly returned to normal. She gave the perfect answer and response to Andrew’s question.
She did not mean to wipe out everything that had happened to her and Henry before. She just felt that in the current situation, she could only try to keep their past as simple as possible so as not to get involved in unnecessary trouble.
“It’s better to be like this.”
Andrew narrowed his attractive eyes, trying desperately to ignore the strange feeling inside.
They quickly arrived at the Hayes family residence.
“Good evening, Grandpa.”
Elizabeth sat across from Benjamin and greeted him politely with her arm wrapped around Andrew’s wrist.
“Liz, how are you getting along with Andrew these days?”
“It’s petty good. Grandpa, have you been well lately?”
As Elizabeth spoke, she moved a little closer to Andrew’s arms with her face full of shyness.
She had come to the Hayes family residence a few times, so her acting skills were getting better and better. She now could already do some intimate actions with Andrew naturally.
Feeling the delicate soft body of this woman in his arms and smelling the nice but vague fragrance emitting from her body, Andrew’s eyes darkened. He put his hands on Elizabeth’s waist smoothly, holding her in his arms even tighter.
“I’m relieved to see that you two are doing well.”
Benjamin nodded. He changed the topic as if he suddenly remembered something.
He looked at Elizabeth to ask a question. “Liz, I saw that you and Henry were quite familiar with each other the other day. Did you know each other before?”
He seemed to be talking to Elizabeth as if it was a pleasant conversation, but there was still a slight hint of probing in his
tone.
It was not that he did not trust Elizabeth, but he thought Henry was too scheming. He was afraid that Henry would do something irreparably wrong again if he did not take strict precautions.
“Yes. Grandpa. Mr. Henry and I used to be alumni from different departments of the same university. Because I had friends

in the same department as Mr. Henry, we often saw each other. But we didn’t have any special interactions.”
Faced with Benjamin’s probing, Elizabeth held down her heart, which was beating too fast, and answered the question in an orderly manner.
Not only Andrew but Benjamin was also concerned about this matter. It seemed she made a very good choice to hide the unbearable past she once had with Henry.
“So that’s how it is.”
Benjamin nodded and changed the subject in time. Elizabeth hurriedly echoed his response and began to discuss other things.
Andrew narrowed his enchanting eyes. He looked down at the woman in his arms with a strange emotion flashing across the bottom of his eyes.
The next day, Elizabeth was standing in the corridor in front of the bar wearing a cream–colored fitted suit jumpsuit and at pair of black sunglasses.
She looked down at the watch on her wrist and then up at her surroundings, only to see a man in a black business suit and briefcase walking straight toward her.
The man walked up to her and asked politely, “Mrs. Hayes?”
“Yes, are you Detective Jeny Swift?”
As Elizabeth asked the question, she pushed the sunglasses on her face down slightly as her eyes under the sunglasses sized the man up.
“Yes, this is my business card.”
The man spoke while taking out a business card from inside his briefcase and handing it to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth reached out and took it to check carefully. After confirming that the man in front of her was the one she had previously contacted on the phone, she nodded to indicate her identity.
“Yes, I’m Elizabeth. Have you found anything out about the matter I asked you to check out before?”
She returned home this time to investigate the inside story of her mother’s death that year.
Therefore, she made multiple preparations. Andrew’s help alone was not enough. She was also investigating the matter privately.
“Let’s go inside and find a quiet place to talk.”
It was a bar, but the private room on the second floor of the bar was very quiet and safe. It was a very good place to talk privately.
“Okay.”
Elizabeth nodded and followed behind the detective. The two of them entered the bar together.
The hall of the bar was booming with music and lights, and the smell of alcohol and cigarettes was mixed together. Just after stepping in, Elizabeth wrinkled her pretty crescent eyebrows in discomfort.
The hall led to the second floor. They also had to walk through a long passage.
There were all kinds of people standing in the passageway, chatting, drinking, flirting, and hitting on each other.
At that moment, at the table on the far side of the passage, a woman in a tight black halter dress nudged a woman drinking aside.
“Kathy, look. The one in the white jumpsuit. Isn’t that your obnoxious sister, Elizabeth?”
Hearing the name Elizabeth, Katherine immediately put down the glass of wine in her hand and looked along the line of sight of the woman in the black halter dress.
“It’s really that bitch. What is she doing in the bar at night?”
They were truly formidable enemies. Katherine recognized her with just one glance.
“Look, she seems to be followed by a man. She is alone in a bar with a man. What else can she do?”
The woman in the tight black halter dress said those words deliberately to arouse Katherine’s disgust about Elizabeth. Although she and Katherine were just fair–weather friends, she knew Katherine did not like Elizabeth. Katherine’s hatred of Elizabeth, her half–sister from the same father, was known to almost everyone in the circle.
