Once Upon A Rejection

Chapter 43

June walked out of the bathroom and straight over to Ezra. I followed closely behind. On our way over I noticed that the woman who had confronted us in the bathroom had already left without a trace. Even the friends that she had come here with had left and the table had been cleared. Almost as though she was never here in the first place.

I was only a little bit worried that June was going to make a scene. She wasn’t normally the kind to shout at someone. She preferred to lull someone into a false sense of security then quietly destroy them but then again she had never had a mate before. Mates do seem to have a tendency to make you feel a little irrational.

June sat down at the table next to Ezra while I sat down beside Grayson. Ezra wrapped his arm around June’s shoulder and smiled at her. She looked down at the table as though she was upset about something.

“What’s wrong?” Ezra asked, trying to pull her closer to his body. June resisted Ezra’s attempts to comfort her.

“One of your ex’s spoke to me in the bathroom. She said that she is going to be your chosen mate.” June said, not meeting his eyes.

“That little bitch.” Ezra growled.

“So it’s true then?” June said. She looked at Ezra, anger burning in her eyes.

She tried to push Ezra’s arms off her but Ezra didn’t let her go. I could see how much June’s reaction was hurting him.

“Of course not, I never told anyone that and I never would.” He said.

“You did know who I was talking about though.” June replied.

Grayson was looking at me, I could tell that he was nervous about how this would go. To tell the truth, so was I. I had never seen June this emotional before.

‘Should we do something?’ Grayson asked through mindlink.

‘Let’s give them a little more time before we start panicking.’ I replied, hoping that was the right move.

“Yes, I only know one woman who would talk to someone else’s mate in that way. She is a psychopath who only cares about herself and power.” Ezra said.

“You knew that and you still slept with her. More than once by the sound of it.” June said. June’s anger seemed to dissipate instantly and turn to sadness.

“I’m not proud of it. She just kept throwing herself at me and I didn’t see any harm in using her.” Ezra said.

June flinched at the mention of him using this women for s*x. If I remember correctly, her ex said something similar when he was trying to justify cheating on her.

June walked out of the bathroom and straight over to Ezra. I followed closely behind. On our way over I noticed that the woman who had confronted us in the bathroom had already left without a trace. Even the friends that she had come here with had left and the table had been cleared. Almost as though she was never here in the first place.

“If you’ve given in to her before then how can I know you won’t do it again? What if you get bored of me or I am out of town for a while?” June asked.

“Now that I have met you, other women don’t exist to me anymore. You are the only one I want to be with for the rest of my life.” Ezra said.

He pulled June close to him, kissing her cheek over and over again but June refused to turn and face him. I could see the desperation in Ezra’s eyes, he wanted her to forgive him more than anything.

“Please forgive me.” Ezra said, in between k****s.

“I forgive you.” June conceded.

She turned to face Ezra who wasted no time before leaning into her for a passionate k**s. I looked away, I didn’t want to interrupt them but I also had no intention of seeing my half brother with his tongue down my best friend’s throat.

I was relieved when a few minutes later, our food arrived at the table. The food looked and smelled absolutely amazing. I enjoyed eating italian food but my culinary talents never managed to go far beyond spaghetti bolognese and lasagna. The food here was so much better than anything I could make. If I could have gotten away with ordering two or three dishes all to myself without looking like a pig then I would have done just that.

There was a small amount of conversation going on as we were eating but I felt a little detached from it. Carly was telling June what it was like growing up in a werewolf pack. I was far too interested in the food to get involved in the conversation or even take much notice of what she was saying.

‘They all seem to be getting along well.’ Grayson mindlinked me.

‘Better than I thought they would.’ I agreed.

I had worried that Carly being here would make the whole thing awkward but she was so happy to be in Leyton’s presence that she acted differently from the Carly that I used to know. She used to always be so concerned with how other people saw her that hardly anyone ever got to know what she was really like. With Leyton she seemed relaxed and able to let real personality shine through.

I was still a bit annoyed with Carly over the way that she treated me when we were at school together. I knew that I was never going to trust her the way that I used to but I wasn’t going to hold onto my resentment for her any longer. My life was better now than it had ever been and I wasn’t willing to hold onto the painful memories anymore.

“If you’ve given in to her before then how can I know you won’t do it again? What if you get bored of me or I am out of town for a while?” June asked.

‘Maybe we could sneak out and go back home?’ Grayson suggested.

‘I think they might notice.’ I replied. Did he really think that we could get away from the table and leave the crowded restaurant without anyone noticing?

‘Ok, sneek is probably the wrong word but I still think we should make an early exit. I can’t wait any longer to get you alone.’ Grayson said.

‘It will only be a few more minutes, I am sure you can wait.’ I said, teasing him.

Grayson looked at me and smiled. There was something devious behind that smile, I knew he was planning something and I dreaded to think what that might be.

He leaned in towards me as though he was whispering something in my ear but he didn’t say anything. Instead he rested his hand on my thigh. He started softly stroking this inside of my thigh, I could feel his warm breath on my neck.

My eyes glanced around the table. Grayson was right, nobody was looking at us. They were so interested in their own conversation that they hadn’t noticed that Grayson now had his hands all over me. I was sure they wouldn’t miss us if we left now.

‘I can smell your arousal.’ Grayson mindlinked me as he let his warm breath caress my neck. I had to bite my bottom l*p to stifle the m**n that wanted to escape.

He slid his hand along my inner thigh, further up my skirt. I could feel my heart rate rising along with my arousal. Why was I so turned on just from him touching my leg?

‘I think you like the thought that you might get caught.’ Grayson told me through mindlink.

I guess that would be one explanation why my heart was racing so fast. I would love to explore that idea further but it was foolish to do that here. Werewolves have such good senses, we were probably raising a few eyebrows as it was.

‘Maybe we should get out of here.’ I said. I could feel his lips raise into a smile against my neck.

‘That’s the best thing I’ve heard all night.’ Grayson said.

He stood up from the table and handed his credit card to Leyton. Leyton gave him a firm nod as though he knew exactly what was happening. Either Grayson had mindlinked him or we weren’t being quite as subtle as I thought we were.
