My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Chapter Gud Wife 426

Chapter 0426

Dr. Monroe hesitated but complied. After all, Marcus's financial support kept the nursing home running. Once Marcus was sure the doctor was out of earshot, he approached what was left of the once-dominant Judge Frank Levett.

"Hello, Frank..." Marcus said coldly.

"So, you've finally deigned to come see me," Frank replied, not bothering to turn his head or locate Marcus's voice.

"Believe me, you're not my priority"

"I know I'm not. But you wouldn't let me die without gloating over my state first."

"Good. I'm glad you understand that without my permission, you're not even allowed to die."

"Bartz, let's walk. I'm tired of sitting in one spot. These dann nurses think I enjoy roasting my head in the sun."

"Fine. Since this is the first and last time we'll meet, I'll humor you.

"How's life treating you? Were you able to find happiness after destroying each of us?"

"To be honest? Yes. I took great pleasure in tearing apart every one of your allies. You were all

despicable."

"What you did turned you into one of us," Frank said with a bitter smile.

"Don't try to mess with my head. You know that's not true Marcus said, his tone ice-cold. "At least I'm not

a rapist, kidnapper, or abuser of women like you and your crew. I investigated every single one of your allies, and they were all scum."

"Those

ase were hard times. We had to do things to survive," Frank replied, his voice gravelly.

"What a convenient excuse to justify your actions. But let's cut the crap-you're dying anyway. Tell me one thing

"What do you want to know?"

"Why did you decide to destroy my family?"

An oppressive silence fell between them. Frank swallowed hard after a few moments and finally spoke.

I was young. Your mother... God, I was crazy about that woman. But she chose your father. It made sense-your. father was young, attractive, and destined take over the company someday. Your uncle wasn't fit to lead, so your father was the obvious choice. I tried to move on. I married Electra, hoping to find in her someone like your mother. But she turned out to be both beautiful and clever too clever. She left me for one of the Palmers. Not even a real Palmer, but she was infatuated with him."

"You're still not answering my question," Marcus snapped.

"I killed them because I wanted to, and because I could," Frank said bluntly. "That's the short answer. The long one? I loved your mother, and she rejected me for your father."

Marcus froze, disbelief washing over him. Everything that had happened to him and his family... over a petty love triangle? 'How could this even be possible?' he thought.

"You're lying."

"No," Frank said flatly. "I wouldn't lie about that-not when I'm on the brink of death. What good would it do me now? I can't even enjoy your reaction-I can't see it."

"Speaking of which," Marcus said, narrowing his eyes. "What happened to your eyes? Actually, what happened to you? When I found you, you were begging for crumbs on the streets. I assure you, that wasn't my doing-I was busy these past few years. So who did this to you?"

"Ha! You, the great business mogul, have no idea who took their revenge on me?" Frank said with a bitter laugh, running his fingers over the scars on his face.

"How would I know? You've harmed countless people."

"It was your friend."

"What friend? I don't have friends. The only one I had is dead-remember?"

"Oh, I remember," Frank replied, a malicious grin spreading across his face. "I was the one who gave the order."

Marcus stepped closer, his eyes blazing. "What the hell did you just say?"

"I said I gave the order. That meddling little brat was jeopardizing my granddaughter's relationship with Maximus Palmer. In fact, the idea came from her. But what we didn't account for was that the bastard would

survive."

"What did you just say?" Marcus's voice cracked with disbelief.

"You heard me. Your precious friend survived. What? You didn't know?"

"You're a damned liar!" Marcus shouted. "I saw his body. I was the one who identified him!"

"For heaven's sake," Frank sneered. "I thought you were smarter than this. How could you believe such

an obvious lie? That bastard survived-and he's the one who did this to me." Frank gestured to his ruined eyes.

Marcus stood frozen, his mind reeling. The man before him-the one who had ordered his family's annihilation- was now claiming he had also ordered the death of Marcus's best friend. Worse, he was saying Peter hadn't died at

all.

Could it be true? Marcus's thoughts raced, unable to reconcile what he was hearing with what he'd seen. If Peter was alive... everything Marcus had believed was a lie.
