My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Chapter Gud Wife 105

Chapter 0105

Mary walked quickly toward the front entrance, trying not to look back. But suddenly, she found herself face-to-face with Maximus's piercing gaze. Her steps altered, and a hollow feeling settled in her stomach as her palms began to sweat.

Peter and Aurora trailed behind her, but they had paused when Catherine stopped them to give instructions about Mary's care. She listed request after request, unsure if sending Mary away was the right decision. But the girl had been adamant about leaving, and Catherine couldn't do anything more to stop her.

"Can we talk?" Maximus asked, his voice and expression tinged with nostalgia.

"There's nothing for us to talk about. Whatever needs to be said, say it to my lawyer. I'll do the same if necessary," Mary replied coldly, continuing on her way.

"I brought the divorce papers. There's no need to go to court," Maximus said, his tone serious.

Mary stopped abruptly, standing with her back to him. His words twisted her heart, but this was a step she

had been asking to take for months. Now that it was in front of her, she couldn't back down.

"Let's go to the garden. I'll sign the damn papers there," she said, snatching the folder from his hands

As she headed down the corridor toward the garden, Peter and Aurora emerged with Catherine. Peter's temper flared the moment he saw Maximus.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Peter snapped.

"Peter, calm down!" Catherine interjected. "He came to deliver the divorce papers."

"So, you knew he was coming? Have you forgotten how upset Mary was after his last visit?"

"Yes, I knew. But Maximus asked me for this favor, and I couldn't deny him the opportunity."

"Peter, let me handle this," Mary said, giving Maximus a blank stare. "I'll sign these documents, and we'll be out of here.'

Without sparing Peter a glance, Maximus walked past him and followed Mary to the garden. They stopped at the bench where they had last sat together after she'd been discharged from the hospital. "Do you have a pen?" Mary asked as she sat down.

Maximus pulled one from his coat pocket and handed it to her.

"Thanks," she said curtly, opening the folder and signing her name. "Done. Maximus Palmer, you're free of me now. But give me back my heart. Ha, not that you can. Isn't it ironic? I don't ask for property or money, just for my heart and time back-but even with all your wealth and power, you can't give me those.

"Mary..." Maximus murmured, a tear sliding down his cheek.

"Everyone thinks I'm weak, that I can't handle knowing you're expecting a child with Alexia. But they're wrong I know everything. I also know you're in a hurry because you're about to get married. I wish you a prosperous life, Maximus. I hope never to see you again, so make sure to stay out of my path."

"I didn't want things to end this way. I really wanted" Maximus began, but he stopped himself. There was no point in saying more.

"You know, I used to love seeing you dressed in black. Even now, when I miss you, I remember the first time we met. You helped me with my foot after I stepped on broken glass, 'stealing milk. You seemed like the most attractive man I'd ever met. But I didn't know about the demon you carried inside."

"I... I can't ask for your forgiveness. All I can do is leave your life," Maximus said, feeling something break inside him-a crushing anxiety talding hold.

"Good. There's nothing left to say. If you'll excuse me I have a long road ahead, and I hate it when Peter drives tired. Goodbye, Maximus.

Mary stood up, removed the ring from her finger, and handed it to him.

"This is yours. Don't ever cross my path again, Maximus Palmer."

"Mary, I'm sorry," Maximus said softly.

Peter, watching from afar, grew increasingly anxious, But Catherine placed a hand on his arm. urging him to give them space.

"It's done, Peter. Let's go," Mary said, her tone unusually sharp as she addressed Catherine. "Grandma, don't let this happen again, or I won't come back to visit you."

"Forgive me, my child," Catherine said, sorrow evident in her voice. "But he needed to see you."

"Well, I didn't need to see him. I need him to give me back my heart and my time, but I doubt he's capable of that."

Aurora was already waiting in the car. As Peter and Mary walked toward it, he asked gently, "Are you okay?"

"No! But I can't stay here any longer. Let's go this place is suffocating me.

Peter helped her into the car, closed the door, and walked around to the driver's side. Before getting in, he glanced toward Maximus, who stood next to Catherine. Their gazes met from a distance, cold and unyielding.

As the car disappeared from view, Maximus turned to Catherine and said, "She signed the divorce papers, and so did I. When are you going to tell her about the company shares?"

"That's no longer your concern. You're no longer her husband, so I owe you no explanations about your ex-wife."

"Will you come to the wedding?" Maximus asked hesitantly.

"Forgive me, my dear, but you know me-I'm no hypocrite. I won't be attending. I'm sorry."
