My ex-husband is seeking a second chance

Chapter 195

Chapter 195

They hurried to the hospital, only to discover that Carson had already been taken into the operating room.

Emily and Kurt were waiting just outside the operating room. As soon as they spotted Pearl and Lindsay, they rushed over to greet them. “Miss Pearl, Miss Lindsay.”

“How’s Carson?” Pearl and Lindsay almost simultaneously inquired.

Emily wore a pained expression. “Carson was pushed by Ralph and lost consciousness on the spot. The doctors suspect it might be a cerebral hemorrhage…

Lindsay covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes. Mason stepped closer, embracing her gently and offering words of comfort. “Don’t worry, don’t worry. Carson has a strong constitution. He’ll pull through this!”

Pearl’s complexion turned pale. “Ralph laid his hands on Carson?”

“It’s my mistake. I shouldn’t have allowed him inside.”

Kurt stepped forward to shoulder the blame, and Emily was remorseful. They couldn’t fathom the audacity of Ralph to confront Carson, a grave transgression physically

Upon Ralph’s arrival at the Rose Garden, he unleashed a tirade of curses and demanded to confront Pearl. Emily had initially considered forcibly ejecting him, but the thought of Carson being present at home made her pause. She entertained the idea of having Carson approach Ralph properly, giving him a well–deserved scolding

It was their way of venting their frustration over all the hardships and mistreatment Miss Pearl had endured at the hands of her two uncles over the years.

Carson didn’t hold back, either. He grabbed a stick and delivered a sound thrashing to Ralph.

“You good–for–nothing scoundrel! Take a good look at yourself before you dare utter another word. Do you even realize the disgraceful character you’ve become? And you dare to insult Pearl! Have you no sense of shame? I ought to give you a sound beating and send you off to meet your maker!”

Ralph was seated in a wheelchair, his mobility limited, but his fiery temper remained as potent as ever. He had nurtured a long–standing grudge against the Day family, and being publicly humiliated by Carson in front of witnesses only added to his humiliation.

At the moment when Carson swung his stick toward Ralph. Ralph swiftly seized the stick and forcefully pushed Carson aside. “Are you out of your mind?”

Carson, while still reasonably fit and capable of running a few blocks, was undeniably showing signs of aging. He had the recurring ailment of high blood pressure, and the push from Ralph, combined with his surging anger, left him momentarily unable to stand. His hand trembled as he pointed a shaky finger at Ralph and managed to utter a single word, “You…” Then, he collapsed.

Emily shuddered at the near disaster. Thank goodness Mr. Males was there to catch Carson in time and kick Ralph aside. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”

Pearl had been simmering with anger, and the mention of “Mr. Males” didn’t faze her. Her lips remained tightly pressed into a straight line.

It wasn’t until she turned around and saw Marc approaching, having just settled the surgery expenses, that her expression displayed a hint of change.

Marc walked toward her step by step.

Pearl looked at him and, without asking anything else, the first words out of her mouth were, “Did you kick Ralph”

Marc nodded. “Yes”

“Is he dead?”

Marc hesitated briefly. “No”

Why didn’t you kick him to death?

Marc gazed deeply into Pearl’s eyes, taking in her reddened eyes and the intense hatred hidden within. He replied, I didn’t hold back. I flipped his wheelchair, and he ended up in the hospital

Pearl’s seething anger began to ease, albeit slightly

After a momentary pause, her expression returned to its usual calm state. She softly uttered two words, “Thank you”

Marc made a slight motion as if he intended to reach out and pat her head, but he halted himself halfway Instead, he calmly stated, “It was the least I could do.”

The lights in the operating room were switched off, and the medical team wheeled out Carson,

“Doctor, how’s Carson?”

The attending doctor explained. “Carson had a preexisting liver ailment, and this incident triggered an episode of elevated liver function and blood pressure. This, in turn, led to a cerebral hemorrhage. Thankfully, he was caught in time, and his head didn’t hit the ground. He received prompt medical attention and underwent surgery. There’s no major concern. He needs

some rest.

The doctor advised, stressing the importance of Carson’s fragile blood vessels due to his age. He cautioned against excessive drinking and overeating and urged everyone to help maintain his emotional stability to prevent further health issues:

Everyone in the room nodded in agreement.

Carson…

Carson, still weakened from surgery, slowly opened his eyes and turned to Pearl, who stood by his bedside. His lips quivered as he spoke. “To have raised… such a son, our family is miserable…”

Tears welled up in Lindsay’s eyes as she called out. “Carson!”

Pearl held Carson’s hand and offered a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Carson. I’m here, and no one can harm you

After ensuring Carson rested peacefully, Pearl left the room, and her smile faded.

“Where is Ralph?”

Mason replied, “He’s still at the hospital. That kick from Mr. Males wasn’t light. He’s got a lower back injury on top of his previous tailbone injury. He just left the emergency room, and Kurt has already taken some people to restrain him.”

Pearl’s expression turned cold as ice. “Tell Kurt to escort him to an open area outside the hospital’s eastern gate. There are not

surveillance cameras there.

Mason raised his head, initially considering saying more, but when he saw Ms. Woolery’s demeanor, he acknowledged her

order.

The group marched decisively toward the exit, leaving Emily and Lindsay to tend to Carson in the hospital room.

Outside the high–security ward, stern–faced bodyguards maintained their vigilant stance.

Thomas, standing behind Marc, watched the retreating figures of Pearl’s entourage and couldn’t shake the feeling of a shiver down has spine. He cleared his throat nervously and inquired. “Mr. Males, do you know what Ms. Woolery is planning” Surely, she can’t be contemplating the unthinkable, can she

Mare maintained his stoit demeanor, his words cutting like ice as he responded, “When someone turns against their father in such a manner, such scum deserves nothing less than death, don’t they?”

The sky brooded with heavy clouds, releasing a relentless downpour.

“What What is your intention here?”

Ralph stammered, his voice quivering as he sat helplessly in his wheelchair. The encirclement of dark–clad figures left him shaken, his face ashen, rendering his words nearly unintelligible.

The figures clad in black began to disperse, creating a path as Kurt shielded Pearl under a large, black umbrella.

The umbrella’s canopy tilted slightly, revealing Pearl’s countenance–an image of grace tinged with sorrow.

In one hand, she held a cigarette and, with a gentle flick of her lighter, ignited the slender tobacco stick. Accompanied loud thunderclap, she raised her gaze, exhaling a plume of white smoke.

Ralph, seated helplessly in his wheelchair, was exposed to the pouring rain. The thunderclap sent shivers down his spine, and his eyes nearly closed due to the rain. In that moment of dread, he almost saw the haunting image of Ken.

No, it was Rebecca!

That ruthless woman had returned!

“Pea–Pearl!” Ralph stammered, shaking his head as if trying to clear his vision. His quivering lips attempted to articulate, Wha.. What are you planning? You can’t possibly intend to… murder in broad daylight?”

Pearl lowered her gaze, calmly drawing on her cigarette. Her expression remained aloof and languid, veiled in the white haze of smoke. She curled her scarlet lips into a cold, disdainful smile. “Death? That would be too merciful for you.”

She sought to subject him to a torment worse than death.

“Kurt.”

Extending her hand, she received an iron rod in an instant. Then, with a swift and merciless motion, she swung the rod. downward, and a blood–curdling scream pierced the somber, rainy sky.

Beneath the shelter of the umbrella, Marc stood frozen, watching as the vacant wheelchair rolled to the wall while Ralph crumpled to the ground, wailing in excruciating pain. The brutal blow had gruesomely shattered his kneecaps.
